About New Vision – Capital Region Medical Center – Closed
Special Care’s New Vision program at the Capital Region Medical Center was located on Madison Street in Jefferson City, Missouri. The program is now permanently closed, although the hospital is still open under the University of Missouri. The New Vision staff had provided behavioral health services for inpatient medical stabilization to treat co-occurring mental health issues and substance use disorders.
Located in the Capital Region Medical Center
New Vision was located in the Capital Region Medical Center off of Route 54. They were located near several restaurants and hotels along the Missouri River. The program was also accessible to folks living in several nearby natural landmarks including Elis-Porter Park, Jefferson City Memorial Park and the Runge Nature Center.
New Vision Would Provide Medical Evaluation to Determine Your Needs for Stabilization
When you arrived at New Vision, the personnel provided you with an evaluation of your mental health and substance use disorder condition and determined whether you required stabilization. If clients were experiencing a crisis situation, they would offer medical stabilization with overnight care. You would be provided with 24/7 supervision and medication management during your stay in an effort to ease your withdrawal symptoms and any discomfort.
No Waitlist for Inpatient Admittance and Care
I find it good to know that there was no waitlist for services, and most patients were seen the same day. This might have included a bed and accommodations. Their medical team would work with you on creating a plan for treatment and stabilization.
Typical stay at the program was an average of three days. Typically, New Vision was seen as the first step in your plan for recovery and sobriety. I find it reassuring that New Vision worked with you through the duration of your care and provide aftercare support and follow up appointments to ensure you remained on track with your wellness goals.

Other Forms of Payment
Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.
Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.
Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
Treatments
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
