About No Longer Bound Addiction Treatment Program

The former residents of No Longer Bound Addiction Treatment Program have a lot of beautiful things to say about their recovery journey and how this men’s rehab altered the path of their lives for the better. Located in Cumming, Georgia, No Longer Bound, or NLB, is a men’s long-term drug rehab center that offers what many other insurance-driven rehabs don’t: an entire year of treatment that ensures, to a degree, your success when you leave their campus. Many other rehabs only cover 14 to 21 days of treatment. This is a faith-based program, but they claim not to be just a Bible summer camp. They want you not only to get closer to God, but to your fellow man and learn how to support each other.

When you first arrive, they’ll help you get started by creating a personalized plan for you. You’ll be getting treated by clinical therapists, recovery specialists and medical professionals who have all been impacted by addiction and understand it at a personal level. You’ll then take part in evidence-based therapies that have been proven time and time again to work for many people in recovery. They offer group counseling, which can help with spiritual formation, accountability, and help you not feel alone in your journey. They also offer medical supervision, vocational training, mentorship, case management, recreation and family recovery.

Their vocational training is really interesting because they fully commit themselves to training you on a day to day basis in order to prepare you for a job once you graduate. They claim to have a 100% success rate with finding full time jobs for the men in their program. While you’re in rehab for the year, you’ll be working there too, learning trades like culinary skills and mechanic skills.

No Longer Bound was hell for me in 2016. It was basically a work camp that let me know how terrible of a person I was while being forced to do manual labor during the heat of the summer. When I arrived I was hugged and told that I was loved. I was then taken to a 10x10 room and told this would be where I slept with 3 other men. The mattress I was given had a large urine stain on it so I swapped it with one from a different room. The first two weeks I was in a bit of a fog. As time progressed I found a rhythm. There was still a lot of guilt I felt for things that had occurred in my life making me unable to open up to anyone there without fear. Also, during the small groups it seemed some of the guys there were practicing Jenkem as well as huffing other things that could get them high. The house some of us stayed in should have been condemned. There was black mold lining the walls and the A/c was broken during the month of June. There was about 3 weeks where we sanitized with windex because we had no cleaning materials. The meat and food that we were eating was usually donated from the grocery stores in the area. The meat was often green or black before being cooked but blended in with the other. We had no other options for food and in my case I was told I would be homeless. This was occurring while being given little access to any type of medical care. In the 6 months that I was there, I met with a psychologist once. We went to church every Sunday to listen to the service at Northpoint. Then we would go to a park for a few hours. Then we had a little bit of free time to rest. I was 21 and had a lot of previous trauma that made all of this especially hard.During evaluation, the entire house gave me negative insights 2 weeks in a row. Maybe I was an easy target maybe they just indoctrinate their graduates to be grateful. It could also be that they find a scapegoat to torture so the other men can get through their program with entertainment. After 3 months I was told I had to restart my program. After 6 months I was kicked out for stalking girls although I couldn t leave the property other than on food run which led to me being homeless. Somehow I managed to survive to this day this place made everything hell. I have also been diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury recently. I was told it could be a symptom of the toxic mold exposure.Would be nice to know if anyone else has a similar experience. This place should be shut down and fined as well as possible criminal charges. The thing is they get you to sign a waiver and most people in this situation have no other place to go. Apologies for the scattered structure of the review, there was just so much that occurred in just a short time.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehab enables clients to receive addiction treatment while continuing to work and reside at home. Many programs offer evening, night, and weekend services so that clients may receive treatment on their own schedule. Outpatient treatment modalities typically include addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and/or medication assisted treatment (MAT). Many programs also provide step-down care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and standard outpatient services, to align with clients' evolving needs.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients enrolled in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) travel to treatment centers for specialized care multiple times per week. Intensive outpatient treatment allows clients to receive robust care while continuing to live at home. Most programs require between nine and 20 treatment hours per week, with the frequency and intensive of sessions decreasing as clients stabilize. Services generally include a combination of addiction counseling, medication assisted treatment (MAT), recovery-focused life skills training, and holistic therapies.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Aftercare, which is sometimes referred to as continuing care or relapse prevention, is a type of structured care meant to help you continue with the progress you've made after completing an addiction treatment program. Most of the time, you'll continue receiving support after a treatment program by partnering with their case managers and staff to identify and access the resources you need to remain sober.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Georgia is designed to encourage an individual to get the treatment they need. This effort aims to break through resistance and motivate the individual to get help. The process typically involves loved ones sharing their concerns with the individual and how their substance use has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist can help guide this conversation and explain from the clinical side how treatment can be beneficial.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

While cognitive behavioral therapy in Georgia is unique for each person, this therapy follows a standard structure that has proven effective. Clients first learn about their substance use disorder, then learn and practice techniques such as coping, stress management, and resilience to change their thought and behavior patterns.

While each person is unique, the typical length for dialectical behavior therapy is six months to a year. You'll attend weekly hour long individual sessions with your therapist, as well as weekly group sessions. Homework between sessions often includes keeping a diary to track your emotions and behaviors. Your therapist uses this diary to guide the focus of each session.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During rehab in Georgia, you may engage in motivational interviewing. This typically lasts one to two sessions and is designed to address any ambivalence you have toward change. It helps you explore your current situation and motivations and commit to making changes for the future.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

As a graduate of No Longer Bound I am a firm believer in what they do to position you for a changed life. This program has a Christ-centered and clinical / integrative approach to recovery. I finished my program 22 years ago, so lots has changed with the facilities itself, but the fundamentals of the program remain the same. I work now as a pastor and recovery worker in the community and I can tell you with full confidence that No longer Bound is one of the top three programs you can find anywhere in the state of Georgia.

Love this place and how clean it is, but not a fan of kids being allowed to ruin things and got shot at by a shooting toy and parents weren’t doing anything nor employees. So I just go ahead and leave to avoid more of it happening

No Longer Bound gave me back my life - it's really that simple. Sure, the campus may not be on par with the likes of Passages Malibu, but the living quarters are comfortable, not too cramped and, most importantly, safe! And the one-of-a-kind relationships forged here are worth any sacrifice made while in this program. The way the amazing surrounding community rallies around the men in this program really is something to behold. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, please consider NLB. You're not alone in this. Choose Life over Death. Choose No Longer Bound.
