Necessity will guide your health decisions but if you have a choice, think twice about choosing Northside Hospital and their network providers, Surgical Specialists of Atlanta and North Atlanta Anesthesia Professionals. Any skills my doctors employed in anesthesia (Kreger) and hernia repair (Garcha), a condition that put me under their care, were over-shadowed by troubling events, pre & post surgery: 1) a $2500 first payment coerced just minutes before my pre-surgery EKG (then chided on an elevated BP) by billing personnel whose main office is harder to find than the Dutchman’s Mine; 2) a quickie post-op that had me rolling out the door so fast I almost asked if she’d checked the tires; 3) a mysterious, serious pain emerged in my right elbow when I cleared anesthesia & sedatives, persisting as of this post, a visit to Resurgens giving few answers but optioned a $1000 CAT scan. I’d’ve informed my surgeon but was delegated to a physician assistant (PA) on final visit, one not in attendance to the operation and largely dismissive of the pain. For today’s surgery seeker, patient becomes debt-holder before scalpel hits skin. Board policies on risk containment (liability) and profit maximization that guide professionals, staff and business office will not change, and still, I’m grateful for what care I did receive and knowledge that continuing to live wise and seek lower deductibles are my best bet for avoiding the crushing costs and billing tactics associated (11.12.25).

I had a procedure at this hospital some time ago but never got around to doing a review. The doctor did an excellent job. My condition improved drastically but the nurse who attended to me was negligent. Her name was Barbara, in the women's department. Once she found out my religious background, she blatantly refused giving me care throughout the night. That was very negligent and a disgrace to her position as a nurse. She started out being very attentive, placing pillows around me to make me comfortable and said she'd come back to give me medication throughout the night. Barbara never came back and when I asked for her at the nurses station they would say that she was not available. I experienced excruciating pain that whole night. You may ask "Why am I just now doing this review?" Well, for future patients who are at the the mercy of nurses who demonstrate a disregard for the nursing Code of Ethics to care for every patient no matter their background or religious beliefs. Nurses are so needed and are appreciated but the medical field is no place for negligence or a personal vendetta. A big thank you to all the nurses who show genuine care and concern.🙏

Accepted Insurance

Northside Hospital works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Intensive Outpatient Program for Substance Use (IOP) is a time-limited, multifaceted treatment service for adults requiring structure and support for recovering from substance related disorders. This program includes: state of art co-occurring disorder treatment, didactic presentations and psychoeducational information, psychiatric services, intensive individual therapy, group therapy and family counseling. Each client has an individualized recovery plan that includes a full continuum of services within a single system.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

In my sad experience, I gound that most of the Dr.s and nurses at this hospital were unsympathetic, rude and hostile! Not wanting to, but my vitals were all over the place for months. I have come several times and put in hospital 3 times with no one really interested in getting to the bottom of my issues. With their consistently rude comments and hostile attitude towards me, I felt like I became a joke. They kept saying... it's not your heart... and I and my family- pleaded... "then it's something else" - causing extreme blood pressure fluctuations - thats why I was there - for some Dr. to "practice" "doctoring" - and CARE about a unwell fellow human and look deeper! After all thats why they are Dr.s, right? I know my illness was unique and my symptom causes wasn't on the the "surface", (as thousands of not so easily explained cases I've researched happens daily) not everyone is "crazy"! And, I never thought like this until my experience with them, I now feel like because I was just a poor black woman, I was easily dismissed and quickly subjected to being an aggravation to them. They stopped listening... and, caring! In my experience with Northside, with the exception of a couple of great nurses, the Dr.s were arrogant, "know-it-all" with a '"God" complex. I saw no real patient care. I think many are they for a check and not because truly helping the suffering - is their hearts passion. They were angry that I desperately kept coming for help and tried to convince that all my "strange" symptoms as one Dr. put it - come back when you've passed out, basically- since they could see on yhe same tests they kept running on me.. my symptoms were just in my head! And as, another Dr. rudely told me that "I need to stop going to Dr.s and see a psychiatrist"! I almost started believing them, if - I wasn't so sick. My life had stopped! But I kept advocating and fighting for myself! It has taken my going to another medical establishment where they began to take all the symptoms in consideration to look deeoer and to get to the bottom of my 9 month struggle of being in and out of Northside hospital to find out that all those symptoms are signs of kidney failure or blood cancer. My heart is broken. If they had cared enough to look beyond the surface and not be so dismissive this condition may have been caught back in January of 2025.. Now I am battling those overlooked conditions.
