About Oceans Behavioral Hospital DeRidder

Oceans Behavioral Hospital DeRidder, located in Deridder, Louisiana, is one of 48 behavioral health treatment centers run by Oceans Healthcare. At this location they focus on treating anyone experiencing substance use disorder, behavioral concerns associated with dementia or Alzheimer’s, and mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.

Their inpatient care is only available for adults over the age of 30. Younger adults and adolescents have partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment options.

Age-Specific Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Treatment

Something great about Oceans DeRidder is that they have several age-specific programs. In particular, they have programs for adolescents and aging adults.

Their Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program serves teenagers ages 12 to 17. The goal of this program is to empower youths to reclaim their futures by taking active steps to stop unhealthy behavior patterns. Their approach looks at substance misuse and any mental health concerns the youth is facing. The addiction counselor can also look at substance use within family history, and give youths tools for breaking the cycle of substance misuse.

The Oceans Six Principles Of Care

They operate from a foundation of principles they call the “Ocean Six”. They describe them as the standard of care they strive to give, and they include dignity, comprehensive care, quality, integrity, advocacy and teamwork. Each of their programs builds upon the foundation of these values and every staff member strives to uphold them in their service.

Oceans DeRidder accepts referrals 24/7, helping you get the care you need as quickly as possible. They also accept Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and most major insurance providers.

Just released from in-care for anxiety and calming down. Love, love, love the staff! Groups are very helpful, and participating can be be enlightening.Food had been great on previous visits-not right now, it isn't.Beware of you have asthma, cleaning product grades are medically necessary with so many people going in and out, and are high in VOCs. Get medical Dr to temporarily double your asthma medication, I forgot and I had a hard time catching my breath. Not highly structured at all, and wonderful people helping you. A great place to calm down!

Absolutely horrible!!!Did absolutely nothing to help my Mom longterm. Was told she would be in their care for Medication Adjustment, evaluation and monitoring for 10-14 days. She was discharged after just 5 days with absolutely zero notice. Their communication with family is non-existent! They will not update you on the progress of your loved ones care. You have to call them and beg for information. They claimed to have "Adjusted" her meds but didn't keep her in their care long enough to evaluate if the adjustment made any difference. Subsequently, the very next day she had a crises situation where law enforcement had to be involved and she ended up in the Emergency Room. She also came back from Oceans with bruises all over her and a very sore back. The only thing we were told is that she slipped on some water on the floor and hit her knees. We doubt we are being told what really happen due to the amount of and location of bruises on her legs, arms and back which have been photographed and documented. Beware before sending your loved one to Oceans. They will do as little as possible and discharge your loved one as quick as possible. There are other options that only deal with Dementia related behavioral issues. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!Update: Xrays show my Mom has a Compression Fracture in her lower back that she did not have when she arrived at Oceans... This just keeps getting worse!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients enrolled in rehab aftercare programs have completed high-level treatment and are typically in the maintenance phase of their recovery, receiving customized services designed to support their sustained sobriety. Case managers and care teams typically begin to plan for the client's rehab aftercare services early in the treatment process to ensure the client's fluid reentry into their home, workplace, and community. These programs evolve as clients' needs change, and frequently include peer coaching, relapse prevention, and career counseling.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

First please be advised to not bring your loved one to oceans . We brought my grandmother for behavior issues . We arrived late on a Wednesday the charge nurse would not come and speak to us she kept yelling at the nurse to relay the information and the nurse was having to holler through the door for our question. now this is a women that has anger issues doesn’t sleep forgets goes to the bathroom on herself want eat yells and screams. So I called Thursday they tell me she is a pleasure to be with they said she slept over 7 hours she eat all her food she’s wearing a diaper not fighting them. She’s smiling and laughing . So I just thought that is odd but that’s only day one fast forward to Monday I have called everyday everyday it was the same line as the first day. I asked daily have y’all given her any medication no ma’am just the medicine she came with we locked hers up and give her ours but it’s the same medication. Well they didn’t care to tell us the insurance was out of network so be ware . Not one dr called us to give us updates half the time the chart wasn’t updated till the following day. So they told us we owe 575.00 a day. Well our thought was if she’s acting fine we aren’t going to continue spending that. Went and picked her up Tuesday evening nobody spoke to us explained anything they were just worried about the money. We get home and we have another patients paper work which I know is against hippa laws . Then we see on there that they are giving her a extra blood pressure medicine along with several other medicine through the day. Now she is home acting the same way. I will be calling the medical board regarding this and I will be calling the facility because they definitely owe us a refund and an apology. Just be cautious I had read the reviews previously and questioned if we should take her to that place but unfortunately for elderly there isn’t a ton of option. BUT they reassured us that things have changed . We also never got anything stating the psychiatrist name and we have a random medication in her bag with a Taylor on it as a dr but that is Not listed anywhere . She went to her primary dr today and we showed him all the paper work he said it sound like they just kept her doped up and her blood pressure so low that’s why she was just going with whatever at the time. Sorry for the long post but I just wanted you to be aware before bringing your loved one there. It’s already scary enough for them and then you feel like you had no purpose afterwards. You have no answer. When now we sit with her still acting the same way and now she’s scared to get in a vehicle with us thinking we are going to drop her off somewhere. And I’m sure the patients private information we have she wouldn’t appreciate that being disclosed to strangers . And if they don’t take this serious I will try and locate the person with the paper work and let her know her information is just being handed out to random family’s.

Absolutely horrible!!! Did absolutely nothing to help my Mom longterm. Was told she would be in their care for Medication Adjustment, evaluation and monitoring for 10-14 days. NOT RECOMMENDED!!! Update: Xrays show my Mom has a Compression Fracture in her lower back that she did not have when she arrived at Oceans... This just keeps getting worse!

These people at Oceans in DeRidder Louisiana are discharging my 87 Year Old unsafe Mother back to her home even though she was found without money food and electricity. She lives alone and often times without money electricity and food because she has an online romance scam of 3 long years she never met in person, she has given more than $47,000.00 to. They don't care one iota trust me. Don't go here for real help. They said she's safe to go home. So unbelievable after all we went through to get her there for help.

BEFORE YOU READ, PLEASE KNOW ALL THE OTHER STAFF ARE SUPER KIND, CARING, AND OVER ALL LOVELY PEOPLE. THIS IS ABOUT THE NEW COUNSELOR TAKING OVER AFTERNOON OUTPATIENT GROUP COUNSELING. When Ms. Julian was there it was awesome. Then they had a newer lady taking over and she was pretty nice, but I sadly forgot her name. THEN she left and found a better paying job (Good for her. Happy for her). A new lady who I won't name came in. That is when it went down hill. She is kind, don't get me wrong, but she pushed religion into the group counseling. It made me uncomfortable. I was there for counseling, not church. If I brought up my religion it seemed to be ignored. Kinda hypocritical. Then I brought up I smoked.. herbs... The two other ladies before her didnt like when I told them, but understood it was the least of my mental problems, especially if it helped me sleep and calm down. This new one pulled me into her office as if being scolded by a teacher and told me I was to take a drug test once a week if I was to continue going. Out of the almost one and a half years I've been there, I never had to do that. I quit and left. Way to make me feel threatened. I didn't do any other "drugs" other than those leafy herbs.
