About Overlake Hospital Medical Center

Overlake Hospital is located in Bellevue, Washington. The hospital offers inpatient medical detoxification and outpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders.

They accept insurance from most major providers, as well as government insurance plans. The facility is adjacent to I-405, making access convenient.

Modern Hospital Setting in Bellevue, Washington

This modern hospital has private rooms for individuals in detox. There’s an on-site lab, pharmacy and medical imaging services. Clients have noted that the staff is compassionate, attentive and professional.

Other clients have noted receiving quality psychiatric and addiction care from an expert clinical staff. Individuals receiving psychiatric and addiction care also have access to specialized medical staff in a supportive environment specially designed for privacy and comfort.

The facility is near downtown Bellevue, which offers many community resources. It’s also close to several parks and calming environments.

Adult Addiction Treatment

The adult partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an outpatient treatment program for adults 18 and over. The PHP often serves as an alternative to inpatient treatment. I noticed a unique treatment modality in the program called Life Balance Therapy.

This therapy helps clients explore what a healthy daily structure looks like, its benefits and how to find balance within the structure. Clients are encouraged to take small steps to reintegrate with daily responsibilities and work, as well as healthy leisure activities and self care.

Instead of turning to substances for self medication, individuals are taught relaxation, mindfulness, self compassion and healthy coping skills. Clients improve their ability to manage stress while building self confidence. They learn to prioritize sleep, nutrition and exercise.

I am beyond horrified from a simple phone call experience with Overlake Psychiatry at Hidden Valley. I went to my primary care doctor and due to my complicated of past and current mental health problems (Major Depressive Disorder, CPTSD, Anxiety Disorder, ADHD), she said that I needed to get psychiatric help (sooner rather than later) and referred me to this clinic. Upon logging into MyChart I was given the option to schedule an appointment, showing four available providers. However, when I tried to schedule an appointment it showed no available times, so I called in to the clinic to ask for help. After explaining my referral from the previous day, I was told that their panel is closed (I didn’t even understand what that meant). I brought up again the fact that I was referred by my primary care doctor because I needed help; however, the employee on the phone stated again that their panel is closed which is why I’m not able to make an appointment on MyChart, that they’re not accepting anyone. I asked what I was supposed to do, how I was supposed to get help? The employee replied, “Well you could reach out to your primary care doctor again and ask them.” I repeated myself again, stating that my doctor referred me to this exact clinic and that it shows online that you have four available providers. The employee replied, ‘”Yes, only for inpatients and not outpatients.” I said, “Okay, what is the difference? She said, “Inpatients are hospitalized and outpatients just come and go,” and “we're not accepting anyone for just medication help”. I said “Yes, I understand that, but wouldn’t you still need to get evaluated for that?” She said, “No, either the patient checks themself in through the emergency room or their family checks them in because fear of harming themselves.” I just went quiet on the line because I was shocked, my throat closing up on me, and I was trying to gather the strength to continue this conversation because I’m trying to get help for this exact problem: I’m literally trying to get help because of how severely depressed I am and I cannot continue living like this anymore. I then said, “Okay…”, my voice shaking with unshed tears (It took so much from me just to do this, anyone suffering from mental health knows how hard it is not only to ask for help but to even try to do something about it and here I am calling a clinic that is supposedly supposed to help people with mental health problems and I’m being talked down to) and I’m just not sure what to do so I just say “okay” again, “Okay, I don’t know what to do, I need help, I have to figure something out.” Suddenly, the employee hangs up on me. She shut the phone on my face. A psychiatric facility employee. Are these people not aware that someone who is potentially suicidal may be on the other line, someone who is clearly saying they need help? How far does someone need to look down the barrel for them to take another person seriously? Even if I were to be hospitalized, I would never want to step foot in such a place. Shame on you.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Overlake Hospital Medical Center works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

I’d give them a zero if I could. After several attempts by myself and the Bellevue Downtown Primary Care Clinic director (who’s great by the way!) to contact this place and establish care, and after this clinic director spoke to the clinics manager and a supervisor to get me in (who both assured the clinic director that I’d be able to get in and get the services needed), they called me back and told me they don’t offer any of the services provided and that the clinic was unable to provide me with care. I then sent a message to Bellevue Downtown Clinics telling them to never refer or recommend anyone to Overlake Psychiatry or the Day Clinic ever again. If you want a prime example of how poor our healthcare system is, how bad mental healthcare is in this horrible and hypocritical state, and interact with “providers” who are completely dishonest, say one thing to the higher ups, but then another thing to the customer, then try your luck. But just keep in mind that you are dealing with horrible, evil, and dishonest people. I’m not even sure why this place exists. They also said they would call me back when I had my first referral, and they never did. I called back and they said they didn’t have any openings for a year. I was like, “you couldn’t call me back when I’m waiting for your call back?” Very rude. That was the time before when I tried to get in. This time though, they said they had someone for me to the clinic director, but lied. I’m contacting the Better Business Bureau and reporting this place.
