About Renewal House

Renewal House in Nashville, Tennessee was founded in 1996 on the premise that separating women and their children during substance use treatment is ineffective. They provide transitional housing for women and up to two children as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) to help keep you on your recovery journey. This method allows mothers and children to heal together, keeping families intact.

A Multitude of Programs For Women and Children

Using dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), individual, group, and family counseling is provided. Their 24/7 staff offers trauma informed support for co-occurring disorders. Mothers can also participate in such programs as a Parenting Skills group and vocational support services like resume writing and budgeting. Case management is offered for both women and children.

The Peer Recovery Support program includes 12 step meetings and peer coaching, plus an active alumni association. Meeting three times a week, their intensive outpatient program focuses on relapse prevention and offers incentives for goals met. They also have father specific services and family support groups. Expected to open in 2025, their new Child Development Center will focus on early intervention and preventative services. Currently they provide developmental assessments and communication skills building.

Treatment in the Country Music Capital

Known as Music City, Nashville is home to the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. In your free time you can explore a variety of museums and parks, including the 55 acre botanical gardens located at the Cheekwood Estate. Famous for its music, hospitality, and exotic food, there’s always plenty to do in this capital city.

I give two stars because this place did help me turn my life around. But it came at a great headache. The rules are made up as days go by. What is ment for one resident will not be mentioned for the other. The lady running the program knows nothing about addiction and has a heart the size of a pea. Most of the workers care but some are just there for a check. I seen someone relapse and got consequences and the one that didn t complete their chore because whatever reason got kicked out. The program use to be a year long program but when they got a bigger building the lady over it made it more like a 6 month program. They RUSH the girls through the program they don t care if they re having problems with any of the steps they don t care if you re not comfortable with phasing up they make you phase up no matter what. They do have an apartment that you can move into after you re in the phase and have saved so much money. And it is a really good place to stay in and you re able to save money when there. BUT the rules to live there are just a crazy as going through the program. They are allowed to come into your apartment at any time to do an apartment inspection and they don t allow animals they don t care if they re registered as an emotional support animal either. After you are ready to move out of the apartment and Live your life outside of a program they take forever to give you your security deposit! I asked the maintenance man about fixing the things I knew I would be charged for and he told me not to worry about them because they had to Change the blinds and paint between every tenant So of course, after hearing that, I did not replace the blinds or fill in the holes from the nails where I hung pics and stuff. They ended up keeping 100$ for a hole in the wall and the blinds. When I tell you this place does not care about you your kids Or your addiction all they care about is the money they make off at you. Be leery about going into this program or living at their apartment Because they will do anything they can and find any reason To keep your security deposit. I was told by the person over the apartments Summer Stevens (she wrote a review) You should not have been communicating with Keith regarding your deposit with Renewal House. Keith is not a Renewal House employee, and I previously instructed you to direct all maintenance or deposit-related inquiries to me. Additionally, no apartment complex permits tenants to perform maintenance work on the property before moving out due to liability concerns. Keith has completed the necessary repairs in your apartment, and there are no longer any holes. However, I can follow up with him to clarify whether he was referring to a specific hole or multiple areas that required patching. I will be in touch. Keith is the maintenance man! So he is an employee!Good luck on deciding where to go to rehab. Some places care others like RH really doesn t they just want your money.

If I could give negative stars, I would. I never had a chance. These people called DCS on me when I called them for help with my addiction because they thought I wasn't coming to treatment. They had me scheduled for Today Wednesday the 11th to come in. They called DCS on me on the 6th of February. I had transportation set up to come to them and DCS came to take my son on the 9th of February...THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED. DO NOT call them for help. Now I have to go to a different treatment center because they had my son taken from me. They should be shut down. And I should be able to sue them for HIPAA violation. ITS SAD THE VERY PEOPLE I TURNED TO FOR HELP ARE THE ONES WHO DID THIS TO ME.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I’ll give it 4 stars but when I was there they had me and my 6 month old baby sitting in our rooms looking at the walls after group for the first couple months 5 days a week with limited baby toys. Tv is only allowed on weekends you might get to watch it during the week . I struggled with that because it’s hard sitting in your room with a baby and nothing else .

The saddest experience ever. My daughter has a 1 year old child. She has struggled with addiction and when I found Renewal House I couldnt have been more excited. A residential rehab that allows child and mother to stay together. It took lots of paperwork and interviews but she got in. Mind you they seldom answer the phone and you have to leave many messages to even get a call back. After several months admission was done and my daughter moved in. Two weeks into the program they asked for my granddaughters vaccination record. She is not vaccinated by her parents choice. The Renewal House now said either she vaccinated her child or she has to leave. What? This was not in the paperwork, not on their website and not discussed during admission. My daughter claimed religious exemption and they said to bad. Vaccinate or get out. Several of the residents there were forced to vaccinate their children because they had no where else to go. One mom whom was 7 months pregnant was told she had to get the Covid vaccine and a flu shot to stay. I asked them why just the children had to produce shot records and not the parents. Why didn’t they mention this before move in? They had no answers. Luckily my daughter had options and could leave without being forced to vaccinate her child but not every mother there has that option. Religious exemption is a thing and should be allowed. Shame on them.
