Signature Behavioral Healthcare

Closed: Overland Park, Kansas

About Signature Behavioral Healthcare

The Signature Behavioral Health Center in Overland Park Kansas was permanently closed in November of 2024. All contact information is disconnected. The North Kansas City Hospital owned by Acadia HealthCare reclaimed the space leased to Signature to support expansion efforts. Both locations in Liberty and Overland Park were closed. This effectively shut down 92 inpatient beds and stopped services to 150 outpatients seen each month. All patients were transitioned to services in other facilities.

Signature’s Other Programs

SBH continues to provide behavioral health care services to adults and geriatric patients with mental health and substance use disorder challenges. It remains a private psychiatric hospital company operating in Arizona and California.

In Arizona, the SHS operates as Aurora Behavioral Health. In California, there are multiple facilities in both Northern and Southern areas. All facilities offer inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment and chronic mental health care. In addition, 12 Step programs and aftercare case management is available in some locations.

Services are provided for free to some qualifying patients. Other insurance is also accepted.

They have a lot of providers and clients, so I often need to keep myself accountable for scheduling my follow ups, but they are so helpful and I have always loved the service I've gotten from everyone there.I've seen Dr. Saha and Heather Bloomcamp for some time now, and they are both amazing. I saw Luke Bradley a while ago, and he was great too. I feel like everyone here really looks out for me and I always feel so welcomed and cared for each visit.

I usually hate to leave negative reviews. But I truly want people to understand what they are getting involved in with this company. I came here looking for help after my doctor suggested ADD testing. So I got a referral and I started the process. My insurance changed in the middle of it which is fine I was told when I would leave there that they have 40 doctors on staff and that one of them would be able to take my new insurance. I left several messages waiting for a call back for weeks with absolutely no response. They said I could pay out of pocket for my testing which I think is ridiculous since I have insurance. I was told that none of the 40 doctors that are on staff would take my insurance. That out of the 40 of them only four do ADD testing. I feel like my time has been wasted I was told one thing and then another and I have been dealing with this for about a month with them. When I was suggesting that I could go to another facility I got hung up on. All I wanted was to try and get some help and I wasn't offered any suggestions they just wanted my money. Buyer please be careful of this place. Again I hate to be negative but hopefully this saves some people time and money. Good luck out there everyone!

Hi Matthew, thanks for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear about the frustration you've faced in seeking care at our practice. Although we have around 40 clinicians, only a handful of them offer testing and assessment services, while the others offer therapy and medication management. We can see how this caused confusion, especially given your insurance changing in the middle of the process. Unfortunately, not every clinician is able to accept every insurance, so we offer clients a self-pay rate that is usually around what the insurance would reimburse. We aim to provide the best care possible and regret to hear that you felt we misrepresented the practice's ability to accommodate this change. We wish you the best in your search and are here to assist if your circumstances change. RC

More like Unresponsive Centers. 2 weeks and 2 voicemails left and can't get a call back. Guess I'll take my business elsewhere.Edit on 07/20/24: It's interesting to receive a comment on my review four months later claiming that you return "all calls within two weeks". I did not receive a call back at ANY point in time, much less within two weeks. I did, however, get in to see a therapist a different organization who did call me back within 48 hours. I would call that a lot more caring than a milquetoast response on a google review four months later with an outright lie. Thanks!

Accepted Insurance

Signature Behavioral Healthcare works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
IOP is acute psychiatric treatment for patients with less severe symptoms or those who are stepping down from in-patient stabilization. Patients participate in three group therapy sessions per visit. Patients typically attend program three days per week. Their Intensive Outpatient Program meets for three hours a day, three days a week.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Once stabilized and prior to discharge, patients are evaluated to determine if additional treatment is required in a less-restrictive environment. The SBH staff works collaboratively with a patient’s primary care and outpatient behavioral health providers to coordinate care and plan for discharge effectively. Patients may be referred to intensive outpatient programs, community mental health centers, to their referring clinicians or to a home environment, if appropriate. Weekly aftercare groups are available to provide continued support at no cost.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The length, intensity, setting, and treatment methods vary for each drug rehab in Kansas. Plans of care can be tailored to meet each person's own unique situation and needs. With the right program, individuals can successfully achieve long-term sobriety.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Signature Psychiatric Hospital is dedicated to providing trauma and addiction treatment to those who serve our community and our nation. The Valor Recovery Program provides inpatient and outpatient treatment for active duty, veterans and first responders experiencing symptoms including: Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, and Addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Dr. Saha and his staff, particularly Mr. Bryan Thomas, provide exceptional care and communication that surpasses any other psychiatrists I've encountered. Dr. Saha listens attentively to my concerns and explains everything clearly, while Mr. Thomas is always readily available for questions, medication refills, and insurance assistance. I highly recommend Dr. Saha's practice for those seeking knowledgeable, compassionate care without the hassle of waiting on hold or dealing with bureaucratic runarounds. This practice truly puts patient care first.

Luke Bradley "assessed" me for autism in 2020. I was on Medicaid and apparently this was the only place that would accept it. It was obvious he had no idea how to identify autism in a high IQ, high-masking AFAB adult. We met once over zoom for a couple of hours, and that's the entire extent of my interactions with him (possibly due to the pandemic, but the fact that we never met face to face meant be never saw me in an environment outside my own bedroom). The questions he asked were the kind you would ask little kids, not gifted adults. He was quick to dismiss everything as anxiety or unspecified childhood trauma (I did not have a very traumatic childhood aside from my parents divorcing). I was sent a report in lieu of an actual response and explanation from him. In his report, he said I couldn't possibly be autistic because I have the capacity to have a two-way conversation and can think creatively. He then went on to describe what he observed, and his description of me was nearly word for word the description of an autistic woman who is highly intelligent and adept at camouflaging her autistic traits. My own self-reporting and extensive research was completely ignored, he didn't even want a copy, and instead he interviewed my mom and only my mom, who complained for weeks about even having to fill out the paperwork. Her responses were incomplete, rushed, and inaccurate, but he took them as complete fact. After receiving Bradley's report and seeing a conclusion that amounted to "she doesn't act like a stereotypical nonspeaking autistic white boy obsessed with trains", I immediately contacted an *actual* expert in gifted autistic women and girls, who actually welcomed my own research, and she said that based on the information I gave her *alone* she'd say I was most likely autistic, but as I couldn't afford to get an official second opinion, she couldn't actually diagnose me, and now I can't access any assistance or accommodations. I cannot keep a job due to my struggles and support needs, and have since been kicked off of my health insurance. And as a final insult, the doctor that referred me to Bradley ended up ghosting me shortly thereafter because their entire staff walked out and they didn't want to take Medicaid anymore. It's been over 3 years now, so I hope he's learned more about the fact that autism is a SPECTRUM since then. I've since been living my life as though I got the correct diagnosis, and my life has improved greatly, aside from not having health insurance.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for your honest feedback, Kat. We are sorry you experienced a frustrating situation at our practice. Our clinicians assess and support a variety of behavioral health concerns and strive to follow best practices rooted in evidence and experience. We hope you will reconsider Responsive Centers in the future so we can provide you with a more positive experience. All the best. –RC
