He is 7 days in that program today, my grandson and I were able to have a short visit with him and he looks a thousand times better.. he looks healthy and his mind is clear and there is hope. This is an underrated community resource in independence and Jackson county. It's not the abundance of resources, or judgements free environment of learning the art of new patterns and behaviors as tools to combat a variety of epidemics that affect every family. It is the HUMAN compassion, patience, counseling and tools for accountability. This place is a lifeline for those who have and have not other options or resources. Walk in and ask for help. They are one of the best around if you are struggling with alcohol or substance use disorder. Very compassionate and genuinely want to help those that are wanting and needing to make positive changes in their lives. BECKY PELLEHAM IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO MEET HER WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE. Rose Moter 3 months ago I just had to stop in and write a review for Embark in Independence MO. Last winter, my son needed residential treatment as it was no longer safe for him to be in home. After exploring various options, Embark was the only program that would take him, and only on a trial basis. As a family, we were hoping for a brief respite and then planned to bring him home and get back to it. Most surprising though, was that the young man we brought home made more progress in that 90 days than we would have ever dreamed possible! We brought him home about a month ago. Before Embark, he was having meltdowns and needing to be physcially restrained at school multiple times per week for his safety as well as everyone else's. Since he has been home... At home and in the community, not a single meltdown. At school, the same. No holds, no issues. He is focused on his school work, and not distracted by dysregulated classmates. He is walking away from situations that previously would have triggered him into physical violence. He has actively opposed bullying at his school, putting into practice the skills that he learned and saw modeled in the millieu. At home, he no longer goes from 0 to 100 without warning. He is able to walk away. He can tolerate frustration. I could give numerous examples - but needless to say, we are beyond grateful! Embark worked with him on medication changes, therapeutic instruction, and training in the millieu of students - and what they did made a signficant and positive impact in the life of our son and our family. This young man that we brought home from Embark has grown leaps and bounds in emotional maturity beyond what I would have dreamed was possible in such a short time. Placing your kid in residential is an impossibly difficult decision for any parent. But at this place, the phenomenal people and program are making a difference! And our family is forever grateful. It just wasn't my time yet. I love Atchison Valley Hope. The staff are A+. They genuinely care about the patients while there and after their discharge. I get calls from my counselors and case workers periodically just to see how I'm doing. It's more than collecting an insurance check with them. I finally took their advice and went to php and iop, in addition to an addiction counselor. I'm 65 years old and sober for the first time in a very long time. The aftercare they have is one of a kind. The staff is amazing. There are far too many to list individually. It is truly the staff in the facilities that have kept me sober. The one huge thing I disagree with though is upper management. They have definitely become more about money than the patients. They only accept bcbs for insurance, so unless you have a lot of money, don't bother coming here. There is no breakfast to speak of. It is not about comfort I guess Nicole Little 3 months ago I am currently in MRC’s Phase 2 program I have been through the 30 days in residential and 60 days in Phase 1 a structured sober living with peer support. The nurses and peer support were fantastic at detox always there is you need anything. Or just a shoulder to cry on. At phase 1 Tyler and Jermaine were awesome people to be around the peer support there. You could talk to them about anything and they drove us to meetings all around the metro. I am now living in one of the two phase 2 houses. I have a great job, that I love. Making rent every month and still saving at the same time because rent is so affordable. I had to stay here due to indifferences at my house. My stay was comfortable and peaceful. The other Veterans are kind. My case worker Irene was very hard on me at first lol! After I was admitted in she was kind and loved all of us. Integration was easy. Irene will help you get more % to help in your case. She is there for you. Use her and let her know how you feel. She has been working there for 15 years (KC,Kansas). What an accomplishment. There are others that work with Irene that are just as important to you. You have to do chores but they aren’t large duties. Roger will be on you. It’s good to clean your surroundings makes you feel good. Breakfast isn’t the greatest but, that will change. Yvette serves breakfast she has to have thick skin because she didn’t make the food. She has no control on what is being served. Be nice to her always and your days will go better. Lunch and Dinner are more filling. Blake is one of the cooks trying to make new desserts and new meals. There is a “suggestion box” downstairs so fill it out. They have snack later on in the night. I met Tom from Salvation Army very stand up person he is kind and cordial. They have a gym for basketball and a small workout room. The Veterans I met are my forever brothers. I have had a family member addicted to fentanyl for years. I have taken them to many places only to be sent away with a script of suboxone. This DID NOT WORK. it was only abused. Then I made the phone call that is saving my sons life and he wad on detox within 4 hours of that call. 5 days later he entered their 90 day program and is doing great. He is 7 days in that program today, my grandson and I were able to have a short visit with him and he looks a thousand times better.. he looks healthy and his mind is clear and there is hope. FINALLY. They didn't just write him a script and send him away like everyone else listed below Research Rediscover(the absolute worst) Truman hospital Centerpoint All the above failed where Heartland is succeeding. Make that call to them they know what they are doing.

This amazing caring staff IS the difference at heartland. This is an underrated community resource in independence and Jackson county. It's not the abundance of resources, or judgements free environment of learning the art of new patterns and behaviors as tools to combat a variety of epidemics that affect every family. It is the HUMAN compassion, patience, counseling and tools for accountability. This place is a lifeline for those who have and have not other options or resources. Walk in and ask for help. It's that easy. First step.

I have worked with this organization and have several contacts enroll and receive services here. They are one of the best around if you are struggling with alcohol or substance use disorder. Very compassionate and genuinely want to help those that are wanting and needing to make positive changes in their lives. BECKY PELLEHAM IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO MEET HER WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE. SHE IS EXTREMELY RESOURCEFUL, AND IF SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE TAKING YOUR RECOVERY SERIOUS AND TRYING TO BETTER YOUR LIFE THEN THE SKYS THE LIMIT AS FAR AS WHAT SHE CAN DO FOR YOU. I wouldn't mislead or try to benefit from someone seeking recovery as so many people and places do. This is the best place around especially if you dont have private health insurance.

My daughter was at this facility for almost three months. In that time she got sober and was able to open up emotionally unlike in the past. She also learned independence skills an gained some confidence in her own abilities. I am thankful for embark and the impact they had on my daughter. Anytime I had a problem it was addressed immediately: I would recommend this facility to any parent who has a teen who struggles with their behaviors or addiction. I was thankful to have finally found a place that could help my child without feeding her Psychotropic meds like a mental facility this is nothing like A mental institution. I just had to stop in and write a review for Embark in Independence MO. Last winter, my son needed residential treatment as it was no longer safe for him to be in home. After exploring various options, Embark was the only program that would take him, and only on a trial basis. As a family, we were hoping for a brief respite and then planned to bring him home and get back to it. Most surprising though, was that the young man we brought home made more progress in that 90 days than we would have ever dreamed possible! We brought him home about a month ago. Before Embark, he was having meltdowns and needing to be physcially restrained at school multiple times per week for his safety as well as everyone else's. Since he has been home... At home and in the community, not a single meltdown. At school, the same. No holds, no issues. He is focused on his school work, and not distracted by dysregulated classmates. He is walking away from situations that previously would have triggered him into physical violence. He has actively opposed bullying at his school, putting into practice the skills that he learned and saw modeled in the millieu. At home, he no longer goes from 0 to 100 without warning. He is able to walk away. He can tolerate frustration. I could give numerous examples - but needless to say, we are beyond grateful! Embark worked with him on medication changes, therapeutic instruction, and training in the millieu of students - and what they did made a signficant and positive impact in the life of our son and our family. This young man that we brought home from Embark has grown leaps and bounds in emotional maturity beyond what I would have dreamed was possible in such a short time. Placing your kid in residential is an impossibly difficult decision for any parent. But at this place, the phenomenal people and program are making a difference! And our family is forever grateful.

I'm a chronic relapser and have been to Valley Hope several times. My relapses had nothing to do with Valley Hope and the care they provided. It just wasn't my time yet. I love Atchison Valley Hope. The staff are A+. They genuinely care about the patients while there and after their discharge. I get calls from my counselors and case workers periodically just to see how I'm doing. It's more than collecting an insurance check with them. I finally took their advice and went to php and iop, in addition to an addiction counselor. I'm 65 years old and sober for the first time in a very long time. There's no treatment center that's going to keep you sober or drug free. I have done the program twice at mrc. The aftercare they have is one of a kind. The staff is amazing. There are far too many to list individually. It is truly the staff in the facilities that have kept me sober. The one huge thing I disagree with though is upper management. They have definitely become more about money than the patients. They only accept bcbs for insurance, so unless you have a lot of money, don't bother coming here. There is no breakfast to speak of. It is not about comfort I guess

I am currently in MRC’s Phase 2 program I have been through the 30 days in residential and 60 days in Phase 1 a structured sober living with peer support. The nurses and peer support were fantastic at detox always there is you need anything. Or just a shoulder to cry on. At phase 1 Tyler and Jermaine were awesome people to be around the peer support there. You could talk to them about anything and they drove us to meetings all around the metro. I am now living in one of the two phase 2 houses. I have a great job, that I love. Making rent every month and still saving at the same time because rent is so affordable. All in all I would recommend anyone to MRC including Tiger Woods

Salvation Army when I went homeless after the military I didn’t know they had services for veterans like this. The KCVA helped to get into the Salvation Army. I had to stay here due to indifferences at my house. My stay was comfortable and peaceful. The other Veterans are kind. My case worker Irene was very hard on me at first lol! After I was admitted in she was kind and loved all of us. Integration was easy. Irene will help you get more % to help in your case. She is there for you. Use her and let her know how you feel. She has been working there for 15 years (KC,Kansas). What an accomplishment. There are others that work with Irene that are just as important to you. You have to do chores but they aren’t large duties. Roger will be on you. It’s good to clean your surroundings makes you feel good. Breakfast isn’t the greatest but, that will change. Yvette serves breakfast she has to have thick skin because she didn’t make the food. She has no control on what is being served. Be nice to her always and your days will go better. Lunch and Dinner are more filling. Blake is one of the cooks trying to make new desserts and new meals. There is a “suggestion box” downstairs so fill it out. They have snack later on in the night. I met Tom from Salvation Army very stand up person he is kind and cordial. They have a gym for basketball and a small workout room. The Veterans I met are my forever brothers. I will stay in touch after I leave. Thank you Salvation Army for helping me find my way.

I was here from January-2025 to August-2025, honestly it was a good experience, alot of things happend to me that were out of the staffs and in bosses power, as in other clients behavior and such, but unfortunately I did get harrased and assulted by other clients but when i stated that, action was taken immediately, they would separate the client from the other(s), and even though it may have not been far, it was better then being traumatized, these "bad" reviews have too of been caused by bad past staff or a lying child, and I was there as I was 14, I was first on the unit champions& Defenders, but maybe 1 week after, my group switched units with champions (Our sister unit) and we got renamed, but as i stayed kids came, and kids went, but I had a good experience overall, and the meals are okay, I feel like the portions should be increased a little for each unit depending on age group, everyone got the same amount, but alot of kids there would do about anything for extras, even in small amounts, I was one of them sometime but it was always 50/50 whenever I ate, I feel as bedtime is WAY too early for 13+ as its 7:00PM for bedtime, as it is healthy but it was extremely hard for me too get up in the mornings because of the time, the beds are really low on the floor if ur in building 3[unless it has been renovated by now] and in building 7, the beds are a normal height,

I was a client At TLC for at least six months and then discharged honestly for me I had a great time I have no idea these parents are talking about the one in the first photo I was there for that kid the only reason why her therapist told her no for the headphones was because they were working on headphones and then when they got unit headphones she refused to use them for the second one a hold is mandatory you cannot blame the staff they're just doing their job and if your child wouldn't have struggled then she wouldn't have so many bruises apologise but I was here for both of these kids both of these kids were in the wrong during their stay because the one that got into the hold tried to fight a staff so of course the staff has to put them in a hold because that's physical aggression and then as soon as the staff tries to put them in the hold she struggles which causes them to hold her tighter and make them stay longer the more she moves the tighter they get the girl that got bullied because of her autism she did not get bullied because of her autism she got bullied because she would cuss people out she would cuss therapist out obviously I had the same therapist so I can put this on put in that therapist was like the best therapist in the world like I have him again before that therapist left he spoke so many good things about your daughter he spoke good about your daughter even though she did so many bad things to him I'm not saying “this is the kids fault” because basically if I'm saying that I would be telling myself that same thing I'm saying that didn't help your kid and that was your objective go to another place I've been to 2 places TLC and pathways send them to another place if they don't do good especially kids in foster care the caseworker is obviously going to send them to another place if they're not doing better after discharge please this place is done so many good things for me I literally struggled in the beginning I got in so many holds in the beginning so many runways in the beginning as time progressed I got better and they finally let me out and I wasn't in a hold for like 3 months

I used to go here when i was 13/14... and for everyone who has had a bad experience placeing there child here just know as for every place it has its good and bad times. I was forchinat enough to be placed here when it had a good staff systume shout out to ,Michaelis, Doug dear, Melissa, mr Tiny, mark and meany more. I also made a tone of friends who i still keep up with to this day aswell. I had the chance learn alot about myself and my problems and left a better kid who was confident and well more behaved and I still use what I learned there to this day and I'm 30. I'm unsure how the place is doing almost 20 years later or who is working there but this place randomly popped up in my my head and i just felt the need to look it up and leave a review. I went with my partner to his annual checkup with NP Johng, at the Shawnee VA Clinic, and he made the whole process painless and so informative. Everyone on the staff was so courteous and respectful, kind and knowledgeable; it was amazing. NP Johng was extremely thorough, encouraging, personable, patient, kind and knowledeable and answered all our many questions with great respect; not treating my partner as if he was just a number. Recovery Village has truly been an important stepping stone in my recovery and mental health journey. I came here hoping to find myself again, learn how to cope with life, and develop better ways to manage my diagnoses. I can honestly say that this experience has helped me in so many ways. I really appreciate the groups offered every day. I have learned so much from the therapists and from the other patients who have shared their experiences with me. Being able to learn from one another has been an important part of my recovery. The staff at Recovery Village is truly amazing. They are compassionate, caring, hardworking individuals who genuinely care about the people they serve and take pride in what they do. I was at Healing House for 3 months and it was the best thing that I could’ve done. They truly prepare you to be on your own and the counselors and staff are amazing. Bobbi Jo is so passionate about what she does and I feel extremely lucky to have been a part of what she does and having the opportunity the community she created. During my time there, it was very rare to see someone relapse or leave before they were strong enough to be on their own and I feel like that is the most telling thing about Healing House. It’s a safe place that keeps you busy and keeps you on track. ❤️
