I have had a family member addicted to fentanyl for years. I have taken them to many places only to be sent away with a script of suboxone. This DID NOT WORK. it was only abused. Then I made the phone call that is saving my sons life and he wad on detox within 4 hours of that call. 5 days later he entered their 90 day program and is doing great. He is 7 days in that program today, my grandson and I were able to have a short visit with him and he looks a thousand times better.. he looks healthy and his mind is clear and there is hope. This amazing caring staff IS the difference at heartland. This is an underrated community resource in independence and Jackson county. It's not the abundance of resources, or judgements free environment of learning the art of new patterns and behaviors as tools to combat a variety of epidemics that affect every family. It is the HUMAN compassion, patience, counseling and tools for accountability. This place is a lifeline for those who have and have not other options or resources. Walk in and ask for help. It's that easy. First step.

I have worked with this organization and have several contacts enroll and receive services here. They are one of the best around if you are struggling with alcohol or substance use disorder. Very compassionate and genuinely want to help those that are wanting and needing to make positive changes in their lives. BECKY PELLEHAM IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO MEET HER WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE. SHE IS EXTREMELY RESOURCEFUL, AND IF SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE TAKING YOUR RECOVERY SERIOUS AND TRYING TO BETTER YOUR LIFE THEN THE SKYS THE LIMIT AS FAR AS WHAT SHE CAN DO FOR YOU. I’m not sure why everyone is so rude in the other reviews, as people seemed to have lost their dignity. However, I’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences here. My provider Dr. Brooks has been nothing short of amazing and the staff are beyond sweet and helpful. Perhaps you all should show some kindness and it would be reciprocated back. They always smile and treat me well when I have my appointments and I live over an hour way to come here! I love this office and all the staff I’ve encountered so far, truly a wonderful experience!

My visit included an in-depth look at the residential hall, the impressive indoor gym, and the welcoming dining area, giving me a comprehensive understanding of their program and facilities. From the moment I stepped onto the campus, it was clear that Embark places a high priority on creating a well-maintained and therapeutic environment. The residential hall felt genuinely comfortable and safe, with spaces designed to promote both individual reflection and community building. The indoor gym was particularly noteworthy. The programs offered by Midwest Institute for Addiction were very helpful for me, without them I don't know what would be of my life nowadays. Each patient is treated with a lot of dignity, all the staff members treated me with respect, I like very much that the programs adapt to each one of the patients, I really recommend it to the people who fight against an addiction.

I'm a chronic relapser and have been to Valley Hope several times. My relapses had nothing to do with Valley Hope and the care they provided. It just wasn't my time yet. I love Atchison Valley Hope. The staff are A+. They genuinely care about the patients while there and after their discharge. I get calls from my counselors and case workers periodically just to see how I'm doing. It's more than collecting an insurance check with them. I finally took their advice and went to php and iop, in addition to an addiction counselor. I'm 65 years old and sober for the first time in a very long time. There's no treatment center that's going to keep you sober or drug free. It takes work, but at AVH they will provide a serious reboot for your future.

I was here from January-2025 to August-2025, honestly it was a good experience, alot of things happend to me that were out of the staffs and in bosses power, as in other clients behavior and such, but unfortunately I did get harrased and assulted by other clients but when i stated that, action was taken immediately, they would separate the client from the other(s), and even though it may have not been far, it was better then being traumatized, these "bad" reviews have too of been caused by bad past staff or a lying child, and I was there as I was 14, I was first on the unit champions& Defenders, but maybe 1 week after, my group switched units with champions (Our sister unit) and we got renamed, but as i stayed kids came, and kids went, but I had a good experience overall, and the meals are okay, I feel like the portions should be increased a little for each unit depending on age group, everyone got the same amount, but alot of kids there would do about anything for extras, even in small amounts, I was one of them sometime but it was always 50/50 whenever I ate, I feel as bedtime is WAY too early for 13+ as its 7:00PM for bedtime, as it is healthy but it was extremely hard for me too get up in the mornings because of the time, the beds are really low on the floor if ur in building 3[unless it has been renovated by now] and in building 7, the beds are a normal height,

I was a client At TLC for at least six months and then discharged honestly for me I had a great time I have no idea these parents are talking about the one in the first photo I was there for that kid the only reason why her therapist told her no for the headphones was because they were working on headphones and then when they got unit headphones she refused to use them for the second one a hold is mandatory you cannot blame the staff they're just doing their job and if your child wouldn't have struggled then she wouldn't have so many bruises apologise but I was here for both of these kids both of these kids were in the wrong during their stay because the one that got into the hold tried to fight a staff so of course the staff has to put them in a hold because that's physical aggression and then as soon as the staff tries to put them in the hold she struggles which causes them to hold her tighter and make them stay longer the more she moves the tighter they get the girl that got bullied because of her autism she did not get bullied because of her autism she got bullied because she would cuss people out she would cuss therapist out obviously I had the same therapist so I can put this on put in that therapist was like the best therapist in the world like I have him again before that therapist left he spoke so many good things about your daughter he spoke good about your daughter even though she did so many bad things to him I'm not saying “this is the kids fault” because basically if I'm saying that I would be telling myself that same thing I'm saying that didn't help your kid and that was your objective go to another place I've been to 2 places TLC and pathways send them to another place if they don't do good especially kids in foster care the caseworker is obviously going to send them to another place if they're not doing better after discharge please this place is done so many good things for me I literally struggled in the beginning I got in so many holds in the beginning so many runways in the beginning as time progressed I got better and they finally let me out and I wasn't in a hold for like 3 months

Salvation Army when I went homeless after the military I didn’t know they had services for veterans like this. The KCVA helped to get into the Salvation Army. I had to stay here due to indifferences at my house. My stay was comfortable and peaceful. The other Veterans are kind. My case worker Irene was very hard on me at first lol! After I was admitted in she was kind and loved all of us. Integration was easy. Irene will help you get more % to help in your case. She is there for you. Use her and let her know how you feel. She has been working there for 15 years (KC,Kansas). What an accomplishment. There are others that work with Irene that are just as important to you.
You have to do chores but they aren’t large duties. Roger will be on you. It’s good to clean your surroundings makes you feel good.
Breakfast isn’t the greatest but, that will change. Yvette serves breakfast she has to have thick skin because she didn’t make the food. She has no control on what is being served. Be nice to her always and your days will go better. Lunch and Dinner are more filling. Blake is one of the cooks trying to make new desserts and new meals. There is a “suggestion box” downstairs so fill it out. They have snack later on in the night. I met Tom from Salvation Army very stand up person he is kind and cordial. They have a gym for basketball and a small workout room.
The Veterans I met are my forever brothers. I will stay in touch after I leave. Thank you Salvation Army for helping me find my way.

I have been going here for several years and Dr. Bryant is the absolute best and really serves veterans well. Its very rare to get someone that good and he is always looking out for the veteran's health. I went with my husband to his appointment with Dr. Schmoll this morning. I have not gone with him to the VA before. It was his 2nd time going to this beautiful facility.
We were treated like we were special by Marlene and the doctor both. She asked for so much information including emphasizing depression as so many veterans suffer with it. She even presented my husband with a pin commerating his service in Vietnam. She was so upbeat and pleasant and very knowledgable. Dr Schmoll was through. He asked a lot of questions and
listened intently. He addressed our question about getting my husbands many medications through the VA. Dr Schmoll took the time to check out each concern my husband had. We both we so very impressed with Marlene, Dr Schmoll and the whole facility. There is plenty of out front parking and very easy to get to from our home in Overland Park. My husband will be seeing Dr Schmoll if needed and we both will feel that he will be getting first rate care. Thank you,

This place helped me rebuild from the ground up. They brought back structure, gave me space to mentor younger folks, and let me move my body again. Depression hit hard, but they knew how to support that too. Not perfect, but it gave me my purpose back.

Finding a place that saw all of me meant everything. The staff respected my pronouns, and therapy felt safe and real. Art groups helped me speak without words. The food was just ok, but the care? Deeply human. I wish there were more gender-inclusive spaces like this. It wasn’t perfect but it was healing, and that’s what I needed. I walked out stronger, finally feeling seen.

I came here broken, heart heavy with grief. The staff were kind and the support groups helped me feel not so alone. Detox was gentle, tho nights were tough. I found real healing here. Forever thankful to the staff.

Ashley colt is amazing but I wasn’t a fan of my therapists changing every few months. Therapy is a no go here but my psychiatrist is thoughtful and caring.

I can't say enough good things about Midwest Recovery; I just want to say thank you to all the staff for giving me a better wife than I had 90 days ago! They were excellent with all my family they don't only care about the addicts but also the family who also suffer. When they say that provide help 24 hours is true. I don't wish addiction to anyone, but if you need help, I would recommend this center.

This place is great! It is a smaller program so the time and attention my loved one received was amazing. We were not sure where to turn but the staff there answered all of our questions and helped us every step of the way. If you know anybody struggling send them to MRC.

So fitting that on thanksgiving i get to do this , 2 years ago today i was getting off a plane with nothing but zero hope and nothing but a broken id card and no clue what to expect going to the middle of what I thought was no where , only to find from the minute i was picked up at the airport and got my first taste of a freddys on the way to detox for the 20th time , i felt welcomed, they made it easy from the first day to focus on the journey i was about to set out on, from the staff , medical professionals i cant say enough , the fact im able to even write this post seemed impossible just 2 years ago! Cant thank my KC family enough, I love all you guys, forever thanks.... mike v
