I have had a family member addicted to fentanyl for years. I have taken them to many places only to be sent away with a script of suboxone. This DID NOT WORK. it was only abused. Then I made the phone call that is saving my sons life and he wad on detox within 4 hours of that call. 5 days later he entered their 90 day program and is doing great. He is 7 days in that program today, my grandson and I were able to have a short visit with him and he looks a thousand times better.. he looks healthy and his mind is clear and there is hope. FINALLY. They didn't just write him a script and send him away like everyone else listed below Research Rediscover(the absolute worst) Truman hospital Centerpoint All the above failed where Heartland is succeeding. This amazing caring staff IS the difference at heartland. This is an underrated community resource in independence and Jackson county. It's not the abundance of resources, or judgements free environment of learning the art of new patterns and behaviors as tools to combat a variety of epidemics that affect every family. It is the HUMAN compassion, patience, counseling and tools for accountability. This place is a lifeline for those who have and have not other options or resources. Walk in and ask for help. It's that easy. First step.

I have worked with this organization and have several contacts enroll and receive services here. They are one of the best around if you are struggling with alcohol or substance use disorder. Very compassionate and genuinely want to help those that are wanting and needing to make positive changes in their lives. BECKY PELLEHAM IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO MEET HER WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE. SHE IS EXTREMELY RESOURCEFUL, AND IF SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE TAKING YOUR RECOVERY SERIOUS AND TRYING TO BETTER YOUR LIFE THEN THE SKYS THE LIMIT AS FAR AS WHAT SHE CAN DO FOR YOU. I wouldn't mislead or try to benefit from someone seeking recovery as so many people and places do. This is the best place around especially if you dont have private health insurance.

My daughter was at this facility for almost three months. In that time she got sober and was able to open up emotionally unlike in the past. She also learned independence skills an gained some confidence in her own abilities. I am thankful for embark and the impact they had on my daughter. Anytime I had a problem it was addressed immediately: I would recommend this facility to any parent who has a teen who struggles with their behaviors or addiction. I was thankful to have finally found a place that could help my child without feeding her Psychotropic meds like a mental facility this is nothing like A mental institution. I just had to stop in and write a review for Embark in Independence MO. Last winter, my son needed residential treatment as it was no longer safe for him to be in home. After exploring various options, Embark was the only program that would take him, and only on a trial basis. As a family, we were hoping for a brief respite and then planned to bring him home and get back to it. Most surprising though, was that the young man we brought home made more progress in that 90 days than we would have ever dreamed possible! We brought him home about a month ago. Before Embark, he was having meltdowns and needing to be physcially restrained at school multiple times per week for his safety as well as everyone else's. Since he has been home... At home and in the community, not a single meltdown. At school, the same. No holds, no issues. He is focused on his school work, and not distracted by dysregulated classmates. He is walking away from situations that previously would have triggered him into physical violence. He has actively opposed bullying at his school, putting into practice the skills that he learned and saw modeled in the millieu. At home, he no longer goes from 0 to 100 without warning. He is able to walk away. He can tolerate frustration. I could give numerous examples - but needless to say, we are beyond grateful! Embark worked with him on medication changes, therapeutic instruction, and training in the millieu of students - and what they did made a signficant and positive impact in the life of our son and our family. This young man that we brought home from Embark has grown leaps and bounds in emotional maturity beyond what I would have dreamed was possible in such a short time. Placing your kid in residential is an impossibly difficult decision for any parent. But at this place, the phenomenal people and program are making a difference! And our family is forever grateful.

When I arrived at Sana Lake, I was in complete denial. I didn't want to be there and was fully prepared to "prove everyone wrong." Instead, with the help of the incredible staff, I proved myself wrong. There are so many people who made a lasting impact on my recovery journey that it's impossible to thank them all enough. Tina was one of my favorite staff members. She has a wonderful way of blending learning, healing, and creativity. As an artist, I especially appreciated being able to work on arts and crafts while participating in group discussions. More importantly, she is authentic, approachable, and genuinely cares about the members she works with. The wellness team was exceptional. Jake ("Coach") inspired me to make healthier choices, including eating more leafy greens. His workouts, boxing sessions, and wellness groups were challenging but somehow always fun. Moni kept us laughing while teaching us about posture, stretching, and acu-detox. Mia's yoga classes were wonderfully grounding and provided much-needed moments of peace and reflection. The nursing staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and compassionate. Harmony, for example, always managed to make me smile while ensuring I received excellent care. The MCS staff also went above and beyond. One day I asked where an office was located, and instead of simply pointing me in the right direction, a staff member personally walked me there despite it being on the opposite side of the building. That level of care and attentiveness was common throughout my stay. Lacie, Sherrie, Sherry, and the entire MCS team were exceptional, personable, and always willing to help. Tim deserves special recognition. On my first day, when I was nervous and uncertain, he noticed the dinosaurs on my shirt and struck up a conversation because I mentioned I loved dinosaurs. That small act immediately helped me feel comfortable and welcomed. Throughout my stay, he continued making dinosaur references that always brought a smile to my face and made Sana Lake feel a little more like home. Brittney's groups were consistently engaging and educational. I learned a tremendous amount from her. The same can be said for Bre, whose groups were equally valuable whenever I had the opportunity to attend them. Amanda always seemed to come through whenever help was needed, and Jo was a thoughtful listener who made people feel heard. One person who truly stood out was Stacie from the kitchen staff. I made a meaningful connection with her, and she frequently shared words of wisdom from across the lunch line that often arrived exactly when I needed them most. Faith was an absolute angel and helped guide me through many important concepts that strengthened my recovery. Chase also excelled at combining fun with learning and reminded us that sobriety doesn't mean life stops being enjoyable. Most importantly, every single staff member contributed to my recovery. Together, they helped me build a toolbelt full of practical skills, insights, and coping strategies that I will carry with me long after leaving Sana Lake. They created an environment where I felt supported, challenged, encouraged, and cared for. To anyone considering treatment: I arrived skeptical, resistant, and convinced I didn't belong here. I am leaving with gratitude, hope, and a stronger foundation for recovery than I ever thought possible. Thank you, Sana Lake. This program gave me so many tools to continue my recovery and maintain my sobriety. Anthony was my counselor and I truly loved him - the time, his patience, calm aura and knowing he truly cared about me. Beth and Sam were also very amazing and always well prepared. I'm a chronic relapser and have been to Valley Hope several times. My relapses had nothing to do with Valley Hope and the care they provided. It just wasn't my time yet. I love Atchison Valley Hope. The staff are A+. They genuinely care about the patients while there and after their discharge. I get calls from my counselors and case workers periodically just to see how I'm doing. It's more than collecting an insurance check with them. I finally took their advice and went to php and iop, in addition to an addiction counselor. I'm 65 years old and sober for the first time in a very long time. There's no treatment center that's going to keep you sober or drug free. It takes work, but at AVH they will provide a serious reboot for your future. Alec T.

I have done the program twice at mrc. The aftercare they have is one of a kind. The staff is amazing. There are far too many to list individually. It is truly the staff in the facilities that have kept me sober. The one huge thing I disagree with though is upper management. They have definitely become more about money than the patients. They only accept bcbs for insurance, so unless you have a lot of money, don't bother coming here. There is no breakfast to speak of. It is not about comfort I guess

I am currently in MRC’s Phase 2 program I have been through the 30 days in residential and 60 days in Phase 1 a structured sober living with peer support. The nurses and peer support were fantastic at detox always there is you need anything. Or just a shoulder to cry on. At phase 1 Tyler and Jermaine were awesome people to be around the peer support there. You could talk to them about anything and they drove us to meetings all around the metro. I am now living in one of the two phase 2 houses. I have a great job, that I love. Making rent every month and still saving at the same time because rent is so affordable. All in all I would recommend anyone to MRC including Tiger Woods

Salvation Army when I went homeless after the military I didn’t know they had services for veterans like this. The KCVA helped to get into the Salvation Army. I had to stay here due to indifferences at my house. My stay was comfortable and peaceful. The other Veterans are kind. My case worker Irene was very hard on me at first lol! After I was admitted in she was kind and loved all of us. Integration was easy. Irene will help you get more % to help in your case. She is there for you. Use her and let her know how you feel. She has been working there for 15 years (KC,Kansas). What an accomplishment. There are others that work with Irene that are just as important to you. You have to do chores but they aren’t large duties. Roger will be on you. It’s good to clean your surroundings makes you feel good. Breakfast isn’t the greatest but, that will change. Yvette serves breakfast she has to have thick skin because she didn’t make the food. She has no control on what is being served. Be nice to her always and your days will go better. Lunch and Dinner are more filling. Blake is one of the cooks trying to make new desserts and new meals. There is a “suggestion box” downstairs so fill it out. They have snack later on in the night. I met Tom from Salvation Army very stand up person he is kind and cordial. They have a gym for basketball and a small workout room. The Veterans I met are my forever brothers. I was here from January-2025 to August-2025, honestly it was a good experience, alot of things happend to me that were out of the staffs and in bosses power, as in other clients behavior and such, but unfortunately I did get harrased and assulted by other clients but when i stated that, action was taken immediately, they would separate the client from the other(s), and even though it may have not been far, it was better then being traumatized, these "bad" reviews have too of been caused by bad past staff or a lying child, and I was there as I was 14, I was first on the unit champions& Defenders, but maybe 1 week after, my group switched units with champions (Our sister unit) and we got renamed, but as i stayed kids came, and kids went, but I had a good experience overall, and the meals are okay, I feel like the portions should be increased a little for each unit depending on age group, everyone got the same amount, but alot of kids there would do about anything for extras, even in small amounts, I was one of them sometime but it was always 50/50 whenever I ate, I feel as bedtime is WAY too early for 13+ as its 7:00PM for bedtime, as it is healthy but it was extremely hard for me too get up in the mornings because of the time, the beds are really low on the floor if ur in building 3[unless it has been renovated by now] and in building 7, the beds are a normal height,

I was a client At TLC for at least six months and then discharged honestly for me I had a great time I have no idea these parents are talking about the one in the first photo I was there for that kid the only reason why her therapist told her no for the headphones was because they were working on headphones and then when they got unit headphones she refused to use them for the second one a hold is mandatory you cannot blame the staff they're just doing their job and if your child wouldn't have struggled then she wouldn't have so many bruises apologise but I was here for both of these kids both of these kids were in the wrong during their stay because the one that got into the hold tried to fight a staff so of course the staff has to put them in a hold because that's physical aggression and then as soon as the staff tries to put them in the hold she struggles which causes them to hold her tighter and make them stay longer the more she moves the tighter they get the girl that got bullied because of her autism she did not get bullied because of her autism she got bullied because she would cuss people out she would cuss therapist out obviously I had the same therapist so I can put this on put in that therapist was like the best therapist in the world like I have him again before that therapist left he spoke so many good things about your daughter he spoke good about your daughter even though she did so many bad things to him I'm not saying “this is the kids fault” because basically if I'm saying that I would be telling myself that same thing I'm saying that didn't help your kid and that was your objective go to another place I've been to 2 places TLC and pathways send them to another place if they don't do good especially kids in foster care the caseworker is obviously going to send them to another place if they're not doing better after discharge please this place is done so many good things for me I literally struggled in the beginning I got in so many holds in the beginning so many runways in the beginning as time progressed I got better and they finally let me out and I wasn't in a hold for like 3 months

I used to go here when i was 13/14... and for everyone who has had a bad experience placeing there child here just know as for every place it has its good and bad times. I was forchinat enough to be placed here when it had a good staff systume shout out to ,Michaelis, Doug dear, Melissa, mr Tiny, mark and meany more. I also made a tone of friends who i still keep up with to this day aswell. I had the chance learn alot about myself and my problems and left a better kid who was confident and well more behaved and I still use what I learned there to this day and I'm 30. I'm unsure how the place is doing almost 20 years later or who is working there but this place randomly popped up in my my head and i just felt the need to look it up and leave a review. Due to various health issues from Vietnam the Shawnee VA clinic is one of 2 VA Clinics I use (easier in & out than the big Hospital). My Primary is there and I have used the Shawnee VA clinic since they 1st opened. I started out with Dr Karen Ryan and when she retired a few years later on they moved me to Nurse Practioneer - Anu Ittycheri. Dr Ryan was great and although I was nervous to start with having a NP as my primary ..... Anu has been fantastic (professional, listens to your concerns and never rushes you) . Everyone I have met over there has been polite, efficient & caring like the receptionists Angela and Chaquita; nurses like Gabby and the man that draws blood (George) is so gentle he basically has to tell you its done, cause I seldom feel the needle going in. In brief I would recommend this clinic & staff to anyone.

Finding a place that saw all of me meant everything. The staff respected my pronouns, and therapy felt safe and real. Art groups helped me speak without words. The food was just ok, but the care? Deeply human. I wish there were more gender-inclusive spaces like this. It wasn’t perfect but it was healing, and that’s what I needed. I walked out stronger, finally feeling seen.

I usually go to St Luke’s Barry Rd, but needed to be seen sooner than later so I took an appointment here at SMITHVILLE. The experience has been wonderful, from the front desk, to the Nurse, lastly to the doctor. Even the lady that took my blood was so kind and quick! To anyone reading this who is thinking about checking themselves in for mental health purposes, or maybe you’re on the way there and wondering what to expect: You will get better here. There are so many people here who genuinely want to help. The night staff especially is really amazing and will make you smile. Stick it out through the food and water which are both very gross. (Ask for flavor packets for the water and you’ll be just fine.) It’s worth it. I really wish this place had clocks, though. A lot of patients, myself included were even more anxious that we never knew what time it was and were always asking everyone else. I hated the food so much because it was worse than dog food but hopefully you can find something you like. Because it really is worth it. Especially if you meet Richie, Phil, Lori, Dr. Perry and the therapists. Also Greta the doggy.
