I was nervous to be referred here after reading the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. My interactions with administrative staff have been pleasant and professional. I received a phone call, text reminder, and voicemails about my initial appointment. The new patient paperwork was sent via a link before hand so I didn’t have to complete it in office. Scheduling follow-ups for testing was easy, they were upfront and apologetic about the wait time (3 weeks from my initials appointment) but tried to get me in asap. Every appointment has been the same, I receive text reminder, and voicemails/calls where they tell me what I’m expected to pay before I arrive so there isn’t any surprise fees. I was concerned about the testing being more expensive than anticipated, so they told me they would call after checking with my insurance if it was over a certain $ amount so I could choose whether to go forward or not. Overall, the staff has been helpful, professional, personable, and efficient! I hope it stays that way!

I was going here. Before the place started making great changes. From having different staff members. It feels like everything is running pretty smooth now. I don't have to call everytime I need a refill. Everything seems to be going great with the new staff members. Im getting my appointment reminders on time.

After a week of waiting for a callback, I finally received a phone call to set up an appointment, and I had a conversation with a guy named Chris. He mentioned that he’s new to the job, which is great because I had come across some recent reviews indicating that the front desk service was lacking and hard to reach. However, Chris was incredibly helpful and took the time to explain everything thoroughly! A big shoutout to him for being so friendly and genuinely working hard to get things organized! I really appreciate it!

While I would truly love to focus on the strengths of the select few staff members here that carry themselves in a professional and ethical manner, it would be disingenuous to you, the prospective client, to leave out the unfortunate reality that it is overwhelmingly the clients that are left to run 80-90% of the responsibilities of operating their own treatment program here. A holistic, dynamic recovery from substance abuse demands the rigorous participation of the individual for whom the program is designed to help recover. Unfortunately at Mirror Shawnee, this concept appears to have been skewed in such a way where the individual client is now responsible for the nutritional, sanitary and other fundamental needs of their peers, while the majority of the program "leaders" visibly struggle to affect their influence in a meaningful way. The moment one enters the circus event that is Mirror Shawnee, as a client, a concerned family member, or as a new or long time staff member- there air is thick with confusion and distress and the mutual distrust and competition among all parties involved is palpable at every turn.
I'm leaving a 5 star review in the hope that they will this posted perhaps a little longer than if I gave an honest rating (1 star). Mirror deletes the tsunami of negative reviews that are posted on here. Just look at number of reviews (7) and then see that there is only one 5 star review that's actually visible. Prior to the most recent purge of these reviews, there was atleast ten 1 star reviews and they have swept them all under the rug.
If you have insurance and/or you're not court ordered into treatment, do yourself and your family a favor and go to Valley Hope or literally any other treatment facility. This place is the last stop on the treatment circuit before incarceration.
To the staff- I just ask that maybe, just maybe you read this, and all of the other reviews and try to look at these statements not as attacks on your character by some drug addled delinquents; but as opportunities for real growth that can be earned as a community, and eventually shared amongst the broader community that we all call home.
Until then, I'll keep checking back and keep leaving more encouraging reviews! I have so much more I could say and I know how fond you all are of thoughtfully receiving feedback and criticism and using it constructively!

I'm a chronic relapser and have been to Valley Hope several times. My relapses had nothing to do with Valley Hope and the care they provided. It just wasn't my time yet. I love Atchison Valley Hope. The staff are A+. They genuinely care about the patients while there and after their discharge. I get calls from my counselors and case workers periodically just to see how I'm doing. It's more than collecting an insurance check with them. I finally took their advice and went to php and iop, in addition to an addiction counselor. I'm 65 years old and sober for the first time in a very long time. There's no treatment center that's going to keep you sober or drug free. It takes work, but at AVH they will provide a serious reboot for your future.

I've had 95% amazing visits but the ER visit was not very helpful. I'm still losing weight and weak in muscles hasn't gotten better. When I got home from that visit I hit grown from struggling to lift my left leg and landed on my face. I'm scared of what these blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds have done to me. I can hardly get groceries and get them in the house. It's just weird that I was doing fine tell I started going to St. Joseph VA. I just don't want to die. I've never been more stressed 😢

I was here from January-2025 to August-2025, honestly it was a good experience, alot of things happend to me that were out of the staffs and in bosses power, as in other clients behavior and such, but unfortunately I did get harrased and assulted by other clients but when i stated that, action was taken immediately, they would separate the client from the other(s), and even though it may have not been far, it was better then being traumatized, these "bad" reviews have too of been caused by bad past staff or a lying child, and I was there as I was 14, I was first on the unit champions& Defenders, but maybe 1 week after, my group switched units with champions (Our sister unit) and we got renamed, but as i stayed kids came, and kids went, but I had a good experience overall, and the meals are okay, I feel like the portions should be increased a little for each unit depending on age group, everyone got the same amount, but alot of kids there would do about anything for extras, even in small amounts, I was one of them sometime but it was always 50/50 whenever I ate, I feel as bedtime is WAY too early for 13+ as its 7:00PM for bedtime, as it is healthy but it was extremely hard for me too get up in the mornings because of the time, the beds are really low on the floor if ur in building 3[unless it has been renovated by now] and in building 7, the beds are a normal height,

I was a client At TLC for at least six months and then discharged honestly for me I had a great time I have no idea these parents are talking about the one in the first photo I was there for that kid the only reason why her therapist told her no for the headphones was because they were working on headphones and then when they got unit headphones she refused to use them for the second one a hold is mandatory you cannot blame the staff they're just doing their job and if your child wouldn't have struggled then she wouldn't have so many bruises apologise but I was here for both of these kids both of these kids were in the wrong during their stay because the one that got into the hold tried to fight a staff so of course the staff has to put them in a hold because that's physical aggression and then as soon as the staff tries to put them in the hold she struggles which causes them to hold her tighter and make them stay longer the more she moves the tighter they get the girl that got bullied because of her autism she did not get bullied because of her autism she got bullied because she would cuss people out she would cuss therapist out obviously I had the same therapist so I can put this on put in that therapist was like the best therapist in the world like I have him again before that therapist left he spoke so many good things about your daughter he spoke good about your daughter even though she did so many bad things to him I'm not saying “this is the kids fault” because basically if I'm saying that I would be telling myself that same thing I'm saying that didn't help your kid and that was your objective go to another place I've been to 2 places TLC and pathways send them to another place if they don't do good especially kids in foster care the caseworker is obviously going to send them to another place if they're not doing better after discharge please this place is done so many good things for me I literally struggled in the beginning I got in so many holds in the beginning so many runways in the beginning as time progressed I got better and they finally let me out and I wasn't in a hold for like 3 months

Salvation Army when I went homeless after the military I didn’t know they had services for veterans like this. The KCVA helped to get into the Salvation Army. I had to stay here due to indifferences at my house. My stay was comfortable and peaceful. The other Veterans are kind. My case worker Irene was very hard on me at first lol! After I was admitted in she was kind and loved all of us. Integration was easy. Irene will help you get more % to help in your case. She is there for you. Use her and let her know how you feel. She has been working there for 15 years (KC,Kansas). What an accomplishment. There are others that work with Irene that are just as important to you.
You have to do chores but they aren’t large duties. Roger will be on you. It’s good to clean your surroundings makes you feel good.
Breakfast isn’t the greatest but, that will change. Yvette serves breakfast she has to have thick skin because she didn’t make the food. She has no control on what is being served. Be nice to her always and your days will go better. Lunch and Dinner are more filling. Blake is one of the cooks trying to make new desserts and new meals. There is a “suggestion box” downstairs so fill it out. They have snack later on in the night. I met Tom from Salvation Army very stand up person he is kind and cordial. They have a gym for basketball and a small workout room.
The Veterans I met are my forever brothers. I will stay in touch after I leave. Thank you Salvation Army for helping me find my way.

I went with my husband to his appointment with Dr. Schmoll this morning. I have not gone with him to the VA before. It was his 2nd time going to this beautiful facility.
We were treated like we were special by Marlene and the doctor both. She asked for so much information including emphasizing depression as so many veterans suffer with it. She even presented my husband with a pin commerating his service in Vietnam. She was so upbeat and pleasant and very knowledgable. Dr Schmoll was through. He asked a lot of questions and
listened intently. He addressed our question about getting my husbands many medications through the VA. Dr Schmoll took the time to check out each concern my husband had. We both we so very impressed with Marlene, Dr Schmoll and the whole facility. There is plenty of out front parking and very easy to get to from our home in Overland Park. My husband will be seeing Dr Schmoll if needed and we both will feel that he will be getting first rate care. Thank you,

This place helped me rebuild from the ground up. They brought back structure, gave me space to mentor younger folks, and let me move my body again. Depression hit hard, but they knew how to support that too. Not perfect, but it gave me my purpose back.

Finding a place that saw all of me meant everything. The staff respected my pronouns, and therapy felt safe and real. Art groups helped me speak without words. The food was just ok, but the care? Deeply human. I wish there were more gender-inclusive spaces like this. It wasn’t perfect but it was healing, and that’s what I needed. I walked out stronger, finally feeling seen.

I came here broken, heart heavy with grief. The staff were kind and the support groups helped me feel not so alone. Detox was gentle, tho nights were tough. I found real healing here. Forever thankful to the staff.

I can't say enough good things about Midwest Recovery; I just want to say thank you to all the staff for giving me a better wife than I had 90 days ago! They were excellent with all my family they don't only care about the addicts but also the family who also suffer. When they say that provide help 24 hours is true. I don't wish addiction to anyone, but if you need help, I would recommend this center.

This place is great! It is a smaller program so the time and attention my loved one received was amazing. We were not sure where to turn but the staff there answered all of our questions and helped us every step of the way. If you know anybody struggling send them to MRC.

So fitting that on thanksgiving i get to do this , 2 years ago today i was getting off a plane with nothing but zero hope and nothing but a broken id card and no clue what to expect going to the middle of what I thought was no where , only to find from the minute i was picked up at the airport and got my first taste of a freddys on the way to detox for the 20th time , i felt welcomed, they made it easy from the first day to focus on the journey i was about to set out on, from the staff , medical professionals i cant say enough , the fact im able to even write this post seemed impossible just 2 years ago! Low regards to the Dr I had, Moktari- didn’t feel listened too or treated as the primary concern in my own healing journey and case management was poor- very unprofessional.

It works.
Finally getting around to sharing but I'm extremely grateful for this place. I'm coming up on 2 years clean from opiates. It was my first ever time in treatment and it stuck.
Very well. They set you up to be successful afterwards with doctors appointments and IOP so even though I haven't had much contact with GB themselves since, I've still was able to maintain treatment.
Food was AMAZING. I had my own 1-bdr apartment with a kitchenette. The therapy was constant so it kept you busy. All the people were nice and they really seemed to care about what they were doing and being there. The pool table and cereal bar were great amenities too.
My only complaint is that I left with a vitamin D deficiency, but it was wintertime in KS so we just couldn't do many outings.
