About Heritage Psychiatric Health

This unit can hold up to 26 people at a time. Here, you can receive acute psychiatric care from licensed therapists. They provide a structured, secure setting for you to recover. Their support will help you reduce and stabilize your symptoms throughout your stay.

I like that this facility is designed to be as homey and comfortable as possible. There are several spots around the center to relax and recharge. During your time here, their multidisciplinary team will focus on restoring your mental health and helping you work through your challenges. Some of the people you might work with include nurses, social workers, psychiatrists and therapists. They’ll offer a variety of therapeutic groups for you to participate in, as well as outdoor activities.

Something that sets this facility apart is the fact that they make all of their meals on site. They have a dedicated dietary department that coordinates with the treatment team to create and deliver meals for all the residents. This means there isn’t a meal service that comes in and delivers frozen food you have to reheat. It’s all fresh just like you’d have at home.

I'll be honest. When I first read the reviews for this facility, I was very nervous to be sent there. So much so that I asked the nurses where I was staying to try and make other arrangements. I was afraid of the theft and mistreatment of patients that some other reviews have mentioned. But that was not my experience. I spent four and a half days there. And I will tell you that it is what you make of it. If you go in entitled and expecting to see lots of bad things, then you will. And while I saw some unruly patients and encounters with dirty toilets, I did find the staff to be quite professional. When I had concerns and respectfully voiced them, they listened and made effort to adjust for me. I made some very heartfelt connections with some of the other patients. People from all walks of life. What we all had in common was some kind of trauma. And it's true, misery loves company. The key to getting better is BE POSITIVE! I call some of my fellow patients dear friends, brothers and sisters who helped me heal and in return I did what I could to be supportive and understanding of their individual situations. Going back to the staff, I felt i was heard by the entire staff. As long as you are polite and don't stir up trouble, you will be fine. Work with the staff. They don't want you there any longer than you want to be there. Open yourself up to listen to what they have to say. Allow yourself to heal. It is a fairly good chance that when you are discharged, the problems that brought you there are still there. But you come out with some coping tools, some support systems to lean on and hopefully, some friends who can be there when you are feeling low. I hope anyone who goes there has the same positive experience I did. God bless and good luck!

All the comforts of a jail — tasteless food, a metal toilet with very little privacy , a bathroom with a lingering essence of urine, little to no outdoor time, and intake nurses armed with a DSM and misplaced confidence. Throw in loud nighttime room checks that made sleep impossible, and you’ve got a true study in institutional misery.

Personal is rude, unprofessional and obviously do not know what they are doing. Food is poor and tastes less. Avoid this place is not the right place to heal.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.

During the first phase of recovery – detox – it is crucial to have 24-hour clinical care in California. This care provides constant monitoring in order to ensure your safely and comfort as you progress through the withdrawal process for drug or alcohol addiction. Licensed professionals prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and provide frequent monitoring to ensure your safely as addictive toxins leave your system.

Inpatient rehab provides intensive treatment for clients exiting detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient care reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client's needs and the program's design. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training.

Treatments

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

The facility has committed multiple violations, including failing to inform individuals of their rights during initial contact. For example, the blue welcome packet that should be provided to each patient upon arrival at Heritage Health was not given to me—I had to ask another patient for the packet to actually receive my rights. The facility also shared my medical information with family members when I never authorized them to do so. Staff members have engaged in racist behavior and have concealed their identities by using false names. When I called the phone numbers posted on the wall in the psych ward, the calls either went straight to voicemail or the numbers were outdated. The staff lied about no one being in the main administration room after a direct confrontation. Then, after being told there was no one there, one of the staff members came out of the office—a complete lie. The facility improperly denied my requests for appeals by not addressing any of the appeals I filed. Additionally, they provided medical analyses that directly contradict one another—during my Zoom hearing, my provider completely refused to accept what my social worker at Heritage Health had stated regarding my mental health. I was forced to take medication even though I was attending all meetings, playing basketball, writing books and speeches with consistent, organized thoughts, and interacting with nearly every patient to learn their stories. How I engaged with staff was also backed by facts. The facility tried very hard to go against what the social worker had proven. The medication was thrown out after being released. Even after all this, the hospital—including Dr. E and Dr. Hirschwitt—still kept me inside the psych ward. I left feeling out of place because everyone else was so sick and mentally disabled. It felt like they were punching air and going against what my social worker had stated.

The facility has committed HIPAA violations, failed to inform individuals of their rights during initial contact, improperly denied a request for an appeal, and provided medical analyses that directly contradict one another. Additionally, staff members have engaged in racist behavior and have concealed their identities by using false names. There was an incident in which Dr. Matthew E. Hirschtritt and Dr. E apologized to me for their inappropriate behavior. If I were in charge, I would launch a full investigation into the entire facility.
