Fremont, CA | Fremont Hospital is a 148 bed psychiatric hospital in Fremont, California, about an hour from Union Square in San Francisco. The hospital has inpatient and outpatient programs for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors with psychiatric and substance use disorders. The hospital accepts insurance from most carriers, including Medicare, Medicaid, | Treatments Programs Payment Options | My mom was admitted involuntarily to the hospital for psychosis. She came back like her usual self.
I'll preface this that I don't know of many patients who want to be admitted to a hospital--I can only share my experience for those who were worried by the reviews.
The case manager, Estella was very communicative and answered all our questions every 2 days. She was able to accept calls as well.
In order to talk to the patient, you'll need them to share a 4 digit code with you via call--which is a little tricky depending on the patient's state. I didn't get mine until 3 days after admission when my mom was more conscious.
You'll only be able to visit every other day for 45 minutes during lunch. This is strictly so you can talk to each other, you basically cannot give them anything substantial, they are strict with what you can bring in to make sure no one harms themselves or others.
For tips if you are a caretaker, this is what helped my family:
1. Prep questions, once they call you, they will be as thorough as possible and answer as many things as they are legally allowed to.
2. Let your loved one know to cooperate-they are trying to find out the right doses and timing for them. Finding it our sooner can help them leave that much quicker.
3. Let them know of any dietary restrictions and communication preferences like language barriers. My mom can speak some English, but for more complex topics, a translator was needed.
Overall, the experience was good, not that I had much control whether or not to admit her to the hospital. It did help knowing that it didn't fit the original mental hospital stigma I had. Everyone was kind and cared about patient safety.

Went in for mental health issues. I don’t think anyone’s happy to be 5150’d or 5250’d, but I can say that the treatment was effective and I left feeling much improved. Facilities were kept clean and food was decent. I’ve had worse experiences. Staff were friendly, attentive, and understanding. Thank you for your help!

All I have to say is I could not have gotten clean with NLR! This place is amazing all the staff are excellent make you feel good about being there. Walking in to the gates I had so many emotions but seeing everyone smile and say hello gave me some ease. If you are looking to sleep all day and think you’re on vacation this definitely ain’t the place for you. You’re busy all day. The classes you take a lot from them Mitch and Rob man they really pump knowledge that will have like shit was it really that bad that I needed to be out there doing x y z. The chief Shilpa ABSOLUTELY AMAZING L!!! Meals amazing 5 star and she is just the sweetest. Lupe chief Shiloh’s assistant absolutely amazing!!! All the clinical techs all so cool very friendly they too started their journey with new life so they know exactly what you’re going through cause they come from the same life styles. I had a really positive experience at New Life Recovery Center. From day one, everyone made me feel welcome and not judged. It’s a calm, supportive place where you can actually focus on getting better and figuring things out.
What makes this place different is the staff. Every person I met has been through addiction themselves, so they truly get it. You’re not talking to people reading from a book. You’re talking to people who have lived it and come out the other side. That shows in the way they listen, the way they talk to you, and the patience and compassion they bring every day.
The groups were helpful and real. People share honestly and support each other. The counselors and techs are down to earth and always willing to talk if you’re having a rough day. You can tell they care and want you to succeed.
If you’re looking for a place where people understand recovery on a personal level and treat you with respect and kindness, I’d recommend New Life Recovery Center. It’s a solid, supportive community for anyone trying to get their life back on track.

Summit Estates has been a lifesaver for my family. I would describe the staff, counseling services, patient commitment and facility with every superlative term in the dictionary. Our family member received inpatient treatment, PHP and IOP through Summit over the course of a year, and we owe Summit a huge debt of gratitude. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the care my son received at Good Samaritan Hospital. What started as an ER visit turned into a few-day hospital stay while we tried to figure out what was going on, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with such incredible care, compassion, and kindness.
A huge thank you to Dr. Cheng in the ER and Brooke, RN, who took such great care of us from the very beginning. Once we were transferred to Pediatrics, we continued to feel completely supported and cared for. Elliott, Meseret, Natasha, Sarah Black and Carmine — thank you for taking such amazing care of my son and for the kindness and reassurance you showed both of us during a stressful few days.
Also, like to mention, Director David Le in Nutrition, he made a few special requests happen and in such a timely manner thank you so much!
I’m so happy to say that he is finally doing better as of today, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in getting him there. ❤️
The entire Pediatrics team at Good Samaritan Hospital deserves a huge kudos. I hope they know how much their compassion, patience, and dedication mean to the families they care for. We will never forget how well we were treated. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! ❤️

The ER team is incredible and all very attentive. Many people came to check in on me and were receptive to all my questions and requests for help. Dr. Sangoi and the huge team of RNs/nurse assistants (including but not limited to Joy, Nick, Sophia, Raquel, and many more that I cannot recall the names of) were extremely helpful and kind. I also appreciate how generous they were with their time.
The facilities were very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the food was surprisingly quite tasty.

Working with Riviera Living has been an absolute pleasure for me. I have truly enjoyed leading wellness and movement sessions for the residents — their enthusiasm, openness, and warmth create such a beautiful energy in every class. It’s clear that Riviera Living fosters a supportive and uplifting environment, and I feel grateful to be part of it.
What stands out most is how deeply the staff cares for their residents. Their dedication shows in everything they do — from thoughtfully organizing wellness activities to ensuring every resident feels included, seen, and supported. The team is always kind, responsive, and genuinely invested in creating a community that feels like home.

My disabled but independent son has been at Riviera living for over a year now. Riviera has a medication room; Pedro is very good at making sure my son takes his medication twice a day. They re-order his medication when needed and have it mailed to the facility. They have a cafeteria that cooks really hearty homestyle meals three times a day and snacks in between.
The housekeeper Susan is very aware of everyone that comes and goes. She cleans each room once a week and is like a Mom to the residents. One attendant- Elizabeth saved my son's life when she noticed he was acting strangely and followed him to his room where he had collapsed and was not breathing well. She called an ambulance.
Overall, I think that the staff are very vigilant but overworked. I think that they should hire more attendants so there is always at least 2 at a time in each house, even at night. I think it would be better if they opened a cafeteria in each home so that the residents don't have to cross the street to get to the cafeteria. Also- it would be good if they could organize hair cut visits and pedicure visits because my son will not go on his own and cannot cut his toenails by himself. The laundry is down the street so it is inconvenient for the residents to do their own laundry.

So, I just left Palm treatment/detox center and wanted to leave a review while it’s fresh in my mind. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start.
Pros to going to Palm Ave:
-The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic.
-It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people.
-Food was very clean, healthy, and always available.
-Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it.
-There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led.
-They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep.
Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories.
Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. I only stayed a few days bc I had previously detoxed in a hospital but some stay much longer- the choice is yours.
Thank you to everyone at Palm Ave. I won’t forget it.

Place is amazing!..Staff is amazing and they take the time to make sure that your doing okay. Not just a cursory.." Good Morning" or " Good Night" They actually take an interest in why your there and what they can do to make your stay as successful as possible.
Classes are set up and offered throughout the day to ensure that you have some tools when you leave. There is medical on sight and a caseworker who jumps through hoops to make sure that each client has access to all the available resources in the county.
They have a business model that is golden and should be mirrored by similiar businesses.

Efficient, on time, good nurses. Sterile cleaning of the wounds by Mike and attentive care for making the patient comfortable (gave me a pillow for my back). Good receptionist, Ann, will help you get another appointment the same day if you're late. She helped walk me to my car. I highly recommend them.

This is an outstanding program working concert with the main hospital. Smooth transition from inpatient at the main hospital to inpatient rehabilitation. The best rehabilitation program I have experienced in 50 years and 25 Surgeries. From beginning to end I felt welcomed and cared for. Every member of the staff was legitimately interested in my care and they really worked together. I never felt like a routine job to them. I was surprised at the level of communication and expertise. They told me at each stage what they were doing and why. I was given targets and goals, which were reasonable. They helped me get there. I have some vision impairment now and they have taught me how to work on my visual rehab. I felt much more secure and they explained to me what was happening to my vision and my brain. I have not seen a better approach. Skilled nursing facility does not even come close. Please fight for yourself and your family to come here instead of routine, skilled nursing. Those nurses can be great, but they do not have the training experience or time to make a difference. I was actually saying prayers of thanks today for being able to come here

The nurses were compassionate and attentive, the doctors were knowledgeable and supportive, and the facility was clean and well maintained.
There is a structured daily schedule, but if you’re not feeling well, you’re encouraged to rest and focus on your recovery. The facility also has a phone and laptop policy, but if you have a legitimate need to use your devices, the staff is willing to work with you to find a reasonable solution.
Visitation is held on Sundays, but loved ones can bring approved items for patients any day of the week, which is a thoughtful way to stay connected and supported during treatment.
Overall, I had a very positive experience at MPI and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a professional, compassionate, and supportive environment to begin their recovery journey.

I was there a little more than 4 years ago. I was withdrawing from a super heavy Xanax addiction. The withdrawal was the scariest thing that I've ever been through but they used medically assisted treatment to taper me off. I went through hell and back but they almost got me through it. Luckily they knew how to treat me. They sent me to the mental health department when things got really bad and then I came back for the rest of my treatment. The groups and counselors are great and very informative and educational. The nurses on the other hand were horrible and didnt understand what was happening with me during withdrawal. I told them I was hallucinating and scared and didn't know where I was in the middle of the night but they just told me to go back to my room. I begged for help and was scared to death but they wouldn't help me. They ended up transporting me to mental health when I was blacked out and out of control. The food was really good and I loved the weekend special dinners the clients would order.

This place completely changed my life. They run a top notch program and the highly attentive staff see to all your needs with no problems. Doctor Kayman is extremely knowledgeable about the brain and the counseling staff is amazing as well, always offering a listening ear and great advice to help any problems that may arise while in treatment. I would like to personally thank counselors Burt, Sharon and Angus for helping me so much while I was there and needed support. Thank you MPI for everything you do!

The camp recovery center change my life !! Keith my IOP counselor helped me through a very hard time in my life and taught me healthy coping skills. From day one I felt supported and encouraged to work towards living a sober life style. Keith's group really helped me process my feelings and emotions and in turn taught me that there was a better way to live life free from substances. I was an angry and broken person when I entered the program and after serval months of the program I learned how to let things go and learned so many tools to dealing with my substance abuse issues. I can proudly say that I have 6months free from alcohol now and so much more happier and have a much more positive outlook on life now . Shout out to Keith for being so kind and compassionate! It's been a wonderful journey with the camp and Keith and the camp will always have a very special place in my heart !!Thank you once again Keith for everything !!

Fremont is the 78th most expensive city nationwide for addiction treatment affordability, with an average cost of addiction treatment of $59523. This is higher than the average cost of $56654 for addiction treatment in California and comparable to the national average cost for drug rehab of $57,193.
The costs of drug and alcohol rehab in Fremont vary widely and depend on several factors, including:
The costs of addiction treatment listed for cities and states are averages based on the cost of medical detox, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, and medication assisted treatment. These averages are high due to the cost of medical detoxification and residential inpatient rehab programs.
These numbers also reflect the raw cost of drug rehab, before any insurance coverage. The typical individual seeking addiction treatment can expect to pay much less for outpatient or intensive outpatient services than the averages listed below. There are many ways to pay for drug rehab in Fremont. Most rehab treatment centers accept cash or self-payment, as well as private health insurance. However, there are many treatment centers in Fremont that accept Medicaid and Medicare, or offer sliding scale payments or other low-cost payment options. Here's the complete breakdown of how to pay for addiction treatment near Fremont.
Blue Cross Blue Shield is the most widely-accepted insurance for drug rehabs in Fremont, with 6 treatment centers in the city accepting their insurance. UnitedHealth Group is the 2nd most popular with 6 treatment centers accepting it followed by Aetna in 3rd accepted by 5 drug rehabs.
Fremont has the 373rd highest rate of drug use nationwide among nearly 400 cities surveyed. This number reflects the combined use of cocaine, heroin, meth, and marijuana, displayed individually below. The percent shown for each drug represents the number of residents in Alameda county that have reported ever using the following drugs, so these numbers should not be interpreted as direct evidence of current drug use in Fremont or Alameda county as a whole.
In 2023, Fremont had the 246th highest number narcotics violations out of 330 cities nationwide, with a total of 198 reported drug-related incidents that year. This includes cases of public intoxication, drug arrests, narcotics found during house calls and traffic stops, and any other drug-related crime.
Keep in mind these numbers are dependent on accurate record keeping and reporting laws by local police and sheriffs, and may not fully reflect all drug related crime in Fremont. All values are per 100,000 population.
