What a shame!!!! The lack of urgency and attentiveness for military and their families is absolutely ridiculous. Tonight I waited over two hours without being seen. My daughter was in pain screaming and no one bat an eye. Unfortunately the ER was the closest to me, so opted to go here. Next time I will take advantage of having tricare select and go elsewhere.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

IT TOOK DEVELOPING AND ESBL E. COLI UTI TO PROVE THAT YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM AND THE COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN BAMC AND WILFORD HALL ARE LEAVING PATIENTS ENDANGERED! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A PATIENT'S ENTIRE MEDICAL HISTORY NOT BE ENTERED INTO MY RECORDS. AS IS, DOCTORS HAVE NO WARNING THAT THEY ARE DEALING WITH A PATIENT REGULARLY HAVING EPOSIODES OF SYNCOPE THAT CAUSES LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS THAT RESULT IN FALLS THAT FRACTURE BONES. I AM 74 AND HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH 3 RARE CONDITIONS. I AM NOT A HYPOCONDRIAC AND KEPT WARNING DOCTORS THAT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT DEVELOPING A SUPER BUG THAT COULD PROGRESS INTO ENDOCARDITIS. THOUGH THIS DANGEROUS INFECTION WAS IDENTIFIED ON 5-1-25...I WAS NOT NOTIFIED UNTIL 5-17-25. AND PREVIOUS IMAGING REPORTED PLURAL EFFUSION. FOR DOCTORS TO SAY, "YOUR LUNGS SOUND CLEAR" THEN DO AN ENDOSCOPE, TO STRETCH A STRICTURE ...WHERE UNDIAGNOSED PLURAL EFFUSION IS WAS AS DANGEROUS AS DOING A COLONOSCOPY WITH AN ESBL E.COLI UTI. IT WAS PLAIN IGNORANT! A 74 YEAR OLD WITH FRONTAL TEMPORL LOBE DEMENTIA SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE FORCED TO MONITOR MY OWN LABS, MEDS, IMAGING AND OFFICE VISIT REPORTS TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM GETTING LOST IN YOUR SCREWED UP COMPUTER SYSTEM! TO BE FORCED TO HAVE MOST OF MY "TREATMENT" AT THE BAMC ER AND MY PCP AT WILFORD HALL COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF HOW SICK AND WEAK I WAS IS UPSETTING! TO HAVE TO BE HOSPITALIZED, HAVE A PICC IV INCERTED TO GIVE INPATIENT ANTIBIOTICS, THEN SUDDENLY WISKED OFF TO ANOTHER WARD, IN AN ISOLATION ROOM, WITH A "CONTACT CONTAGIOUS" WARNING SIGN ON MY DOOR WAS FRIGHTENING! BUT AFTER ALL OF THAT, HAVING TO ENDURE AN ARROGANT, INSENSITIVE AND DISMISSIVE DR. DANCHI TO LECTURE ME ON WHAT "APPROPREATE TREATMENT" I HAD BEEN GIVEN WAS INTOLERABLE! HE WRITES OPINONS LIKE, "...PATIENT PERCEIVES " WHEN I'M WARNING THEM I COULD DEVELOP ENDOCARDITIS (because l have MVP that regurgitate back into my heart) IS NOT A PERCEPTION! IT ALMOST HAPPENED! YOUR DOCTORS MUST BE TRAINED ON HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPEECH BEING EFFECTED BY DEMENTIA AND LEARNING DEFICITS AND STOP LABELING US WITH "ANEXITY"! I CURRENTLY HAVE, "PANIC DISORDER WITHOUT AGOROPHOBIA" AND "SOMATIC OVER CONCERNS" IN MY MEDICAL HISTORY LIST BUT NOT THE MOST ENDANGERING, RARE CONDITIONS! TWO VERY ABNORMAL 24 HOUR BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING REPORTS, BOTH DONE AT BAMC HAVE NEVER BEEN PROPERLY ACKNOWLEDGED NOR THE SOURCE DIAGNOSED AS I COPE WITH SEVERE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE DISTROYING MY ORGANS! MY BLOOD LABS ARE SO ABNORMAL DR. CAMPBELL HAD TO ADMIT HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR ME. AND BAMC'S GASTROENTEROLOGY CLINIC HAS NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED ALL THE DIVITICULI AND PYLOPS THEY HAVE BEEN REMOVING AND BIOPSING. AND I AM A CAMP LEJEUNE TOXIC WATER VICTIM TOO! SO DR. DANCHI'S SNARKY ATTITUDE AND DISMISSIVE BEHAVIOR MUST BE PROPERLY ADDRESSED! HE SHOULD ALREADY KNOW HOW TO WORK WIITH ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH DEMENTIA AND MADATORY SENSITIVITY TRAINING IS VERY NECESSARY TO CORRECT HIS IGNORANCE!

Dear God. Instead of doing 24 years in the military to get tricare and deal with DHS I should have crossed the border and gotten medicaid. More compassion and less headaches.

This is the worst Emergency Room to visit ever. Do not recommend. I’ve been traumatized. I do not want to go into the details of my health but the doctors both times, made me want to not seek medical help and deal with it at home.

The 2 single worst sick call experiences I have ever had in the military, being nearly bedridden and having to wait over 4 hours just to get a quarters slip

I made an appointment at Wilford Hall Eye Center for a reason and instead they make you wait 45 minutes after your appointment time and when you get through those doors to get checked you still wait more. Their process is not accurate and does not work. We all have schedules and timelines to meet.
