I’ve had such a positive experience with the New Braunfels VA. From the moment I walked in, the nurses and staff made me feel like more than just a patient—they genuinely care about my well-being. They take the time to listen, explain things clearly, and make sure I feel comfortable every step of the way. It’s clear that their priority is not just my health, but also my peace of mind. I truly appreciate their kindness and dedication, and I always leave feeling supported and cared for.

The Windmill Wellness Ranch is an inpatient rehab and recovery center located close to San Antonio in Canyon Lake, Texas. I had the most amazing experience of my life! WWR saved my life in many ways. I tackled multiple addictions and took advantage of every service they offer (which there are many!). The counselors and recovery advocates are incredible. While I now have the tools to go back to the real world, I will miss this place in my soul. I would recommend WWR to anyone needing to face addiction or any other mental challenge.

Windmill is set amongst a beautiful scenery of trees and deers, that enables peace of mind and a healing quietness for the spirit. This serene atmosphere grows and shines in the people living there and the ones there providing us support through their smiles and patient caring for each other. I was able to learn again what it felt like to be human, sane, and a part of something. Fellowship being the heart of the strength built, I walked away with a community that stands as an army ready to fight together. You will be empowered. It works if you work it. As the windmill keeps turning, so shall we!

It’s hard to put into words the amount of gratitude I feel for Robert Kidd & “the Room” @ Positive Recovery, but I will give it my best shot. After finding myself at an ultimate low & loosing nearly everything that ever mattered to me in life, I found myself sitting in what we call “the room”. Robert asked me a question that I had no idea wld be the start of a new & beautiful journey…. “Who is Kat?” Take away the kids, the marriage, the job, etc…most of which I had lost at that point anyway - who was I, at my core? I had absolutely no idea - but thankfully, I had a willingness & a safe place to find out. Thru some really challenging assignments & sitting in the room w/ others who were willing to open up & share things we probably wldn’t otherwise talk about…I found myself doing the same. In doing so, I have been able to let go of things I didn’t even realize I had been holding onto & have rediscovered who I AM. It’s a special room & To say that I’m grateful is a serious understatement. Everyday is a gift 🙏 I realize that more today than ever. #soberaf #onedayatatime

I hope this review reaches you when you’re feeling like you’ve tried everything and nothing has worked. If that’s where you are, know that PRC will give you the help you need, and Robert Kidd is in the business of the highest calling—Saving Lives. There are a few moments in my life that I can pinpoint as truly life-saving, and my experience at PRC is one of them. There are plenty of IOP programs around, but the people at this center, especially Robert Kidd, are on a whole different level. Before coming to PRC in San Marcos, I had been through three treatment centers and several Intensive Outpatient Programs, with my life in complete disarray. But everything changed when I met Robert. When you show up at an IOP, it’s not on your best day—it’s one of the lowest. My family had given up on me, and I didn’t have anyone to help me sort through the wreckage of my life and guide me forward. I felt hopeless, like rebuilding my life wasn’t possible. Robert took me in at my lowest point, and I’ll never forget what he said after going through the intake process. He looked at me—a 28-year-old man, fresh out of my second rehab, with a newborn child—and smiled. “Hey Bud, we’re going to get through this. And I don’t just mean maintain—I mean thrive. I have high hopes for you, John.” It had been a long time since someone believed in me. Robert became the father figure I needed when mine had stopped speaking to me. From that moment, I gave everything I had to getting clean. I had never stayed clean and sober for more than 12 days, but Robert's belief in me made me want to succeed. It wasn’t the money spent on rehab or the numerous counselors and medications that made the difference—it was Robert’s belief in me. He didn’t just let me slip away when I missed a group session; he would reach out, encourage me, and motivate me to keep going. PRC, and especially Robert Kidd, are the reasons I’m here today, thriving. If you’re considering PRC here in San Marcos, know that it could be the place where your life changes too.

Hello My name is Massey and I'm someone living in recovery for 8 years 1 month and 13 days. Without Robert Kidd and Positive Recovery, I would not be able to say that. What was provided to me was a safe space to come in out of the dark and learn that it was ok-that I would be ok. I was given an opportunity to improve my quality of life through ownership and action. All that was required of me was that I hold myself accountable. For over 35 years I struggled not just with addiction but fear stemming from years of trauma and suppression. Mr Kidd and Positive Recovery through their methodology and genuine compassion provided me a road map to another way. I will always be an addict. That is what I am, but that is no longer WHO I am thanks to the truth that Positive Recovery provided me. Today who I am is a father husband and quite simply someone that is no longer afraid of being afraid. Words cannot articulate the amount of gratitude I have for Mr Kidd and his team. Thank you for holding me accountable showing me how to do the work and helping me know that I will be ok Sincerely Massey B

Alcohol was absolutely going to kill me, had I not found Blue Heron Recovery! From the first day, (although terrified not knowing what to expect) I felt very welcomed and safe. The facility is in a beautiful location surrounded by nature. I never felt a "hospital or jail" vibe. There is a brand new detox center and outpatient treatment available. They also incorporate yoga and meditation classes throughout the week. Heather and Lisa are AMAZING and truly care about each clients recovery. The staff work really hard to make the environment safe, fun, and healing. My therapist, Jim, is a super cool guy who treats everyone with respect which makes it easier to talk about difficult things. I owe much of my success to Jim! The owners Dr. Christina and Dr. Paul Mayer are some of the nicest people I've met and are frequently on-site teaching classes or engaging with clients. I have a long way to go, but my life as a whole is significantly better since completing the outpatient program at Blue Heron! I would highly recommend Blue Heron Recovery to anyone even considering getting help for addiction.

I took a ride on my first ambulance ever. I went to the Guadalupe Medical center. I was brought to Guadalupe Medical center and was immediately treated with first class service. They got to the base of my problem. I was diagnosed. I was monitored for a few hours and released in good health. The staff was nothing but polite and experts at what they did. When I was discharged, I sat in the waiting room by the exit door. I did not have an Uber app. I called Seguin taxi. Apparently they are not in business any longer. The security guard saw that I was in disarray and said is there something I could do to help you sir? I told him my problem. I need a ride I have nobody to take me back home. It would be many hours before I could get a ride home it was 11:00 p.m. and it was raining out. I gave him my address because he asked me for it. The security guard got on his cell phone and a few minutes later told me an Uber will be arriving in 9 minutes. It will take you directly home. I said how much is this going to cost? The security guard said it's all taken care of I'm paying for it. I said oh I didn't know that the hospital pays for Ubers he says they're not paying for it sir I'm paying for it. The security guard paid for my Uber trip along with the tip and refused to take any money from me. This was an act of kindness. He made my day I couldn't thank him enough and just couldn't believe it. This is a great hospital with great people and great security that work at the Guadalupe regional Medical center. This is not something that the security guard does all the time he just did it as an act of kindness. I recommend the Guadalupe regional Medical center. Everyone there is a class A person.

Laurel Ridge Treatment Center, particularly the Mission Resiliency Department, offers an exceptional environment for military personnel and veterans looking to address behavioral and mental health disorders, including PTSD, major depressive disorder, and anxiety etc… During my stay, I treated this center as a health retreat, maintaining a positive attitude that significantly contributed to my healing process. The caring staff and dedicated doctors were instrumental in my journey; I appreciated the daily access to my psychiatrist and multiple therapy sessions each week, which kept me focused on my well-being——particularly my therapist, Ms. Deb, who was tough but thorough, who greatly assisted my personal mental and physical health journey. The kitchen management & staff was attentive to my food allergies, ensuring my dietary needs were met with care. Shout out to (Danny Blanca, Justin, Wendy). I recently visited Laurel Ridge Treatment Center a month ago and was impressed by some of the friendly staff on Trinity. By the end of my visit I knew this facility was exactly what I needed. This place has mixed reviews and that’s because not all the staff are the same. Hearing staff gossip made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Made me have pre-judged opinions of fear of certain people. This facility should really work on consistency with policy and procedures. Dealing with behavioral health is not an easy job and I thank this place for helping me. Special thanks to Miss Naelli for taking the time in helping me understand the flow of daily activities and keeping us safe by herself. Miss Keeana and Miss Destiny are so professional, fast and supportive of each other they also kept their promise! Miss Keeana provided me with vital information I had been seeking for days because her nurse filled in the gap allowing Keeana to research just for me . Thank goodness for Miss Krystal! I am thankful for her! Miss Krystal came over and I was afraid of her at first (prejudging fear from uneducated gossip) the truth is I felt so safe with her watching over me. She is firm, passionate, and caring to all needs. She taught me to focus on myself and not the drama around. I felt so zen afterwords. The small gestures these ladies provided went a long ways. I will definitely come back here and definitely be more supportive with my family after meeting them!!!!Thank you to all the group therapists too! Hope to not see yall soon 😄

No parent ever wants to place their child in a treatment center. We were very nervous and scared but the entire staff at SMTC went above and beyond to ensure our family felt heard, seen, and validated. Our child did have to wait for several months for a bed to open (no fault to center as the mental health crisis in our world is a lot and not enough places to help ) but as soon as one did the staff as on top of everything and made the transition from out of state as easy as possible. Through the 8 plus months or child was in SMTC we got to see the staff and campus first hand several times and it broke all the stereotypes about these "types of places". The campus is beautiful and tons of engaging and therapeutic activities for all clients. They planned and executed several special outings , BBQs, and fun activities to keep clients active and involved in every aspects of their mental health treatment. Our therapist , Ms. Mcarthur was exceptional and walked beside us the entire way. she will forever hold a special places in our family for all the tools, tips, and support for gave us. She helped our child learn skills to advocate and take a role in their personal treatment. The nursing staff was kind, knowledgeable and professional. Nurse Anderson, Nurse Macola, and Nurse Headly are amazing assets to the facility. Communication was constant, clear and conveyed in a timely fashion. I was very impressed with the fact the SMTC worked with not only the individual client but also us as a family with weekly family therapy sessions. As parents we were very involved throughout the treatment process. We loved the weekly check ins and staffings to ensure we all were on same page and all effective members of the treatment team. We are eternally grateful for SMTC for coming along and walking beside us without judgement during a very hard, scary and emotional season of our lives. TO ALL THE STAFF: we are so grateful and thankful for all your hard work not only with our child but all the children you help! We know nursing is sometimes hard and difficult but know you are a blessing to so many kiddos! you have all touched our lives with lasting experiences! keep up the amazing work you all do! With a grateful mom heart, Amber

There’s a negative stigma on mental health, but in reality everyone struggles with mental in many different ways and at that time of my life, I absolutely hated being in residential, but now look back as the years have passed. I realize that it was the best for me and I’m in the best situation I have ever been in my whole life just because I went to residential and get the help that I needed. So yes, it can be beneficial for your child. Will it be very scary, Different, and new to your child yes it will. But I’m not saying I did not struggle being in residential for six months. In fact, I absolutely hated it, but it motivated me to be a become my better self this how you become well-rounded citizens of the society and build god habits that last.

I gave birth to a sweet baby boy in June! I had the best experience with everyone who helped with my delivery and my aftercare! My labor and delivery nurse Jessica and Desire will forever be locked in my brain when i think about my delivery. I was very scared as a first time mom and they made me feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I don’t think I would have been able to keep pushing without their positivity and motivation. I also really loved my postpartum nurse megan. She answered all my questions, helped me with anything I need especially going to the bathroom for the first time, and helped with feeding with my baby. These nurses will forever be remembered when I think about my delivery. The only thing that I wasnt a fan of was someone who worked in the financial department came to my room around 8 am when I was up for over 24 hours (gave birth at 3am) to ask for payment of the bill. I was completely out of it since I just gave birth and she expected me to hurry up and pay her when I was trying to nurse my baby. I definitely think that they should come later in the day to discuss this with you when you give birth in the middle of the night. it was very uncomfortable experience.

I had the unfortunate experience to spend my birthday this September (along with 9 other days in the hospital). Thankfully I was at North Central Baptist Hospital. I cannot say enough good things about this facility, the doctors, NURSES (in particular) and staff. It was my first experience being admitted to the hospital and a dream patient I was not. The nurses and staff were so caring and didnt make me feel like a pain in the butt. 3rd Floor Nurses Zach (who i had the privilege of being my day nurse most of the days of my stay) was absolutely outstanding. He was patient, caring, so smart, would lead and collaborate with other memebers of the care team and nurses. He was a born leader, deserves a raise and I cannot say enough good things about him. Then there was King. My night nurse. She was so fantastic in dealing with me, my heath issues and really looked out for me and made sure I was as comfortable as I could be. Zach and King honestly went above and beyond and only lead me to believe that the nursing staff as a whole is properly educated, compensated (though they both deserve raises), lead, protected and encouraged to do their best every day --that is what I feel I got from both Zach and King every day -- their best. And I was just one of their patients. Dont mean to ramble, but I cannot say enough good things about this facility and a big thank you to Zach and King who were outstanding. And I cannot forget Tonya -- the wound care Queen. She would come in the room like a Tornado, work her magic, and be on to the next patient to ease his or her discomfort. She was a true leader and exceptional. Zach, King and Tonya - -thanks for allowing me the privilege of being your patient and receiving your expert level care. You made a difference in my life and recovery and I will never forget you.

No two people have identical journeys in their recovery from drug or alcohol addiction and different strategies work for different people. One tool that some people use in their recovery journey is hypnotherapy. If you’re in San Antonio, Texas, one local option is the San Antonio Hypnosis Center. In 2017/18 I developed Gastroparesis after contracting a virus. It was life-altering because I ended up weighing 80 pounds & losing my job as I threw up 24/7. Eventually I decided hypnotherapy might help me cope with the trauma aspect of the illness. I found Dr. DeWitt to be a lovely human being. He is exceptionally smart & committed. You feel really comfortable with him (and I'm a survivor so feeling comfortable with a man I do not know is a big deal) he's got a very kind heart & a wonderful bedside manner. Not surprising for a hypnotherapist maybe but he's the real deal in terms of his commitment to his profession. Dr. DeWitt is a very kind man, he's highly intelligent & versed in his field & he helped me a lot with the anxiety element of the illness. I couldn't afford to keep going to see him but I did have several sessions & they were reasonably priced. He is punctual, a good listener, professional & invested in what he does. I did not feel he was just going through the motions, I felt heard, accepted and like he really did want to help me (which he did). I highly recommend Dr. DeWitt if you wish to be hypnotized for anything from anxiety to quitting smoking, he will help you. He's such an asset to this city. Thank you for all you did to help me.

Our experience with Alpha has been nothing short of transformative for my 15-year-old son. When we first sought help following my son's overdose, I was overwhelmed with concern and uncertainty. But from the very first phone call, the staff made us feel supported and heard. The intake process was smooth, and they took the time to carefully explain every step of the program, ensuring we were fully informed and comfortable moving forward. The team of counselors, therapists, and support staff is exceptional. They truly understand the challenges young people face and have a unique ability to connect with teens in a compassionate and non-judgmental way. My son has made incredible progress, thanks to their individualized approach that takes into account not only the addiction itself, but also the emotional, psychological, and social factors that contribute to it. What stands out most about this center is their holistic approach. They don’t just treat the addiction—they work on building self-esteem, coping strategies, and life skills that are crucial for long-term success. The therapists created a safe space for my son to open up, express his feelings, and rebuild trust. It’s clear that the staff genuinely care about the well-being of their patients and their families. The outpatient program was tailored to my son's needs, allowing us to balance treatment with school and other activities. The center also encourages family involvement and offers parental support and therapy, which has been crucial for my understanding and support of my son's recovery journey. The progress I've seen in my teenager over the past few months is remarkable. Not only has he shown an improved attitude toward his recovery, but I've also noticed a significant positive shift in his overall mood and outlook on life. We are beyond grateful to Alpha for giving our family hope and helping my teenager reclaim his future. If you're looking for a compassionate, professional, and effective treatment program for a young person struggling with addiction, I wholeheartedly recommend Alpha 180. They truly saved my son and gave us the tools we need to continue on this journey together. Jenn Parent of Alpha Patient

Alpha BH is such a good resource for adult men, as well as adolescent boys and girls who struggle with Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health. I have personally sent around 5 men here, and all have reported back positive feedback about the program, and all say the staff there truly care. Plus, they’re located deep in the heart of Austin!

I am grateful to Alpha for the wonderful and effective program they've designed. Mental health and related services have been hit-or-miss for our family, but Alpha has been such a great combination of evidence-based programming, support, love, and a pathway to independence for young men with struggles.
