Everyone comes first before my 77 year old mother suffering a stroke. Admitted basically to wait for the MRI with no treatment being administered…for 3 days! They are milking the Medicare system by keeping her for 3 days under the guise of performing diagnostics and treatment. They’ve done nothing for her except poke her veins until she is covered in bruises. No fluids, not giving her her regular meds, and NOW she’s started sneezing and getting a cold or worse! And we are still waiting for the MRI before they will release her. What, is this a jail??? “We will torture you until your Medicare money runs out and not do you any good?” We will never come back to this hospital. They don’t listen, they are still bringing her food she can’t have, they have no sense of urgency, others are getting their MRI but she’s got to wait…she just was told an emergency bumped her out of line… and she is now done! UPDATE!!! Her night time nurse is fantastic! Rick is compassionate, caring, and a savior to my mom’s mental health. He’s making every effort to expedite her testing so she can go home. Rick is a blessing in this experience. When others make promises, Rick makes things happen! Thank you Nurse Rick!!!

Some of the staff was kind and understanding. But when the patient was alone he wasn’t treated as kindly. Was told that they were being rough with him. When i went to him his whole arm was bruised down his arm from then trying to stick him with an iv. His hands where bloody. And when i took his things home the meal i was approved to get him was thrown in the bag with and had gotten all over his phone clothes and charger. Then when he was getting worst they didn’t respect that i was his wife nor his emergency contact and called his mother because we weren’t legally married. After that they wouldn’t let me see my husband. Last time i saw him he was asking his family to leave Añd asking me to stay in which i was told i had to leave. I wasn’t even informed about his passing Añd had to find out through a Facebook post that he was gone. Not once was i called or notified even though he requested for it to be only me there his wishes weren’t respected. I tried showing up to be told that i had to leave because it was “their son” and i was nothing but a girlfriend due to not being legally married. I called 3 times a day asking if he was alive Añd if i could see him Añd every time i was told “because of hippa we can only tell the emergency contact” just for them to hang up on me after finding out i was the emergency contact. Very rude Añd not respectable to who the patient wishes on who he wanted the information to go to. Brought in the very people that he said he didn’t want there. I do thank the few 2 nurses that was kind enough to respect his wishes to let me know his condition vs the other 4 who treated me with disrespect and was extremely rough with him to the point that he had to ask ME to help him move to get up or move him to a comfortable position due to then being too rough Añd them not being more gentle right after he said his pain was a 9.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Just wanted to share our experience at this hospital, because I personally feel it is important to find a place you can trust and be treated with respect and compassion. Although I was not the patient, knowing and seeing how my wife whom I brought in with excruciating pain on her neck and shoulder and sleepless nights was treated, is extremely important for me and her wellbeing. M.P. Leslie and RN Brenda were very professional explaining everything in detail that was going to be done for her treatment to feel better. They both treated my wife in such caring and compassionate way that I honestly would recommend this hospital emergency care for any of your loved ones. Last but but least my wife felt great an hour after leaving the emergency room and had a wonderful restful night. Thank you Northeast Baptist Hospital #1 #emergency #awesome #no pain

Response from the owner
So glad to hear that! Pedro, thank you for the wonderful review and for taking the time to share your feedback.

Wound Care Center The care a patient receives at the Wound Healing Center is beyond remarkable. The minute you walk in the door you are greeted by the friendliest staff in the hospital. The nurses are warm, caring and extremely competent. The physicians are top notch with an amazing bedside manner. These people care about you and your wounds, we have been in and out of this facility for about 13 years. My mom has chronic issues with her legs and the staff is so kind and willing to help heal her at every level. There is NO better place to go in San Antonio.

Response from the owner
Thank you for your positive feedback, Bonnie. We are thrilled you had a great experience.

I drove 4 hours from my home town of Weslaco, Texas to Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio and in my eyes and personal experience this is best hospital by far. From the moment I arrived to preregister for pre-op and checking in for surgery, the wait time was less than 15 minutes and the staff were very professional, kind, friendly and very attentive. First and foremost I thank God for my healing and secondly I thank Dr. Reich and his surgical team for their outstanding work. To the Cardic nurses and Techs I am forever grateful to y’all for caring for me post op, and the dietary staff for keeping me fed. I highly recommend Northeast Baptist Hospital for your urgent care needs and hospital stay. I rate this hospital a 10/10.

Response from the owner
Thank you for your positive feedback, Jo Ann. We are thrilled you had a great experience.

Sherri & Latrell were extremely professional, courteous and genuinely caring. We’ve been trying to get my mother in for a CT-Angio all over San Antonio and the run around we received was “not very good” to be polite. These ladies were great and their attention and empathy was incredibly felt by both my mother and I. To top it off Sherri had to draw a sample and Mom’s reaction of “it’s over?” was extremely appreciated by myself. Thank you ladies! Northeast Baptist Hospital needs to take very good care of personnel like this.
