About North Central Baptist Hospital

Baptist Rehab Centers is located in San Antonio, Texas. The hospital offers many services, including co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. They have a specialized Geriatric Mental Health Program for the elderly that treats depression and substance and/or medication-induced depressive disorder in seniors. They accept private health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and military insurance, such as TRICARE.

A Unique Addiction and Mental Health Program for Seniors

The hospital is located just outside the heart of San Antonio and is convenient to US Highway 281. San Antonio has a vibrant culture, a rich history, and historical landmarks including The Alamo. The San Antonio River Walk is a pedestrian walkway along the river with shops, restaurants, and other attractions where clients can rest and recharge.

The hospital has a unique program for seniors called the Advanced Recovery After Surgery program. The program reduces the risk of addiction to pain medications by limiting the amount of pain medications and opioids used when clients have surgery.

Seniors have different depression related experiences than children, teens, and young adults. Depression may be triggered by the withdrawal or use of certain substances and medications. The staff has experience assisting seniors with detox and related depressive disorders, as well as other co-occurring mental health issues.

Adjunct Therapies and Services in San Antonio, Texas

In addition to their outpatient services, they also offer an inpatient program that provides 24/7 care including detox and therapy. Because this is a hospital, clients can receive integrated medical care and adjunct services to complement their addiction and mental health treatment.

In addition to the senior program, they offer gender specific care that addresses the unique challenges faced by each gender. The adolescent program offers an age appropriate setting and therapies.

The hospital has private rooms to ensure your personal space and comfort during recovery. They have a business center with secure computer stations and high speed internet to assist students and professionals while in treatment. This is a comprehensive treatment setting where clients can get the care they need for a long lasting recovery.

My wife had our child at this hospital. From the very beginning the postpartum nurses were nothing but sweet, kind, and caring to her and me. The experience, the help, and the amazing professionalism displayed by them is just spot on. Thank you all so much for what you do.

I gave birth to a sweet baby boy in June! I had the best experience with everyone who helped with my delivery and my aftercare! My labor and delivery nurse Jessica and Desire will forever be locked in my brain when i think about my delivery. I was very scared as a first time mom and they made me feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I don’t think I would have been able to keep pushing without their positivity and motivation. I also really loved my postpartum nurse megan. She answered all my questions, helped me with anything I need especially going to the bathroom for the first time, and helped with feeding with my baby. These nurses will forever be remembered when I think about my delivery. The only thing that I wasnt a fan of was someone who worked in the financial department came to my room around 8 am when I was up for over 24 hours (gave birth at 3am) to ask for payment of the bill. I was completely out of it since I just gave birth and she expected me to hurry up and pay her when I was trying to nurse my baby. I definitely think that they should come later in the day to discuss this with you when you give birth in the middle of the night. it was very uncomfortable experience.

My mother is sch for surgery they won't let my mom have it unless she pays a 300.00 copay. She has heath insurance for a person watching her parent cry and worry for money they are sick and don't care about the patient. We have agreed to pay when they send the bill. She has not worked due to her illness. I pray no one has to go through this. The lady was rude and no bed side manner.

If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

BEWARE to any patients seeing Dr. Ftesi. He severely lacks empathy and will downplay and disregard your symptoms and pain level and will deny any further consults because he doesn’t want to be proved wrong and incompetent. HE will actually tell YOU how you’re feeling because he is apparently All-Knowing and knows your body better than you do! I can’t imagine how many patients have been harmed due to his ignorance and neglect. The hospital administration will unfortunately do nothing since Dr. Ftesi is the Head Hospitalist, but do NOT stop advocating for yourself or your loved ones because I can guarantee Dr. Ftesi will refuse to do his job and advocate for you. Clearly the multiple complaints against Dr. Ftesi prove he is in the WRONG profession.

My mother was able to have her surgery. The doctor and nurses have been so great. They have made sure she has everything she needs. The doctor comes to see her three times each day. She never has to ask for pain meds. They have set up post ops people to help take care of her when she gets home. The hospital is very clean. When I first got there they had a lady at the front desk. When I talk to the director of the hospital she was removed and they went to my mom to say how sorry they were and made sure no one would have to deal with this woman. They took ownership. That is so uplifting. To know they care if any one is unhappy with the service. I can not be more happy and thankful to the staff. For the hard work and long hours. Each smile that they greet my mom with makes me feel great. I don't feel like I have to stay the night to be sure she is cared for. I was even more so happy that they have my info and even know my name. It feels like family. My mom has a long recovery ahead but with this team she is in great hands. Thank you for taking care of my mom this is the only hospital my mom's Dr's go to and we see why.

I had the unfortunate experience to spend my birthday this September (along with 9 other days in the hospital). Thankfully I was at North Central Baptist Hospital. I cannot say enough good things about this facility, the doctors, NURSES (in particular) and staff. It was my first experience being admitted to the hospital and a dream patient I was not. The nurses and staff were so caring and didnt make me feel like a pain in the butt. 3rd Floor Nurses Zach (who i had the privilege of being my day nurse most of the days of my stay) was absolutely outstanding. He was patient, caring, so smart, would lead and collaborate with other memebers of the care team and nurses. He was a born leader, deserves a raise and I cannot say enough good things about him. Then there was King. My night nurse. She was so fantastic in dealing with me, my heath issues and really looked out for me and made sure I was as comfortable as I could be. Zach and King honestly went above and beyond and only lead me to believe that the nursing staff as a whole is properly educated, compensated (though they both deserve raises), lead, protected and encouraged to do their best every day --that is what I feel I got from both Zach and King every day -- their best. And I was just one of their patients. Dont mean to ramble, but I cannot say enough good things about this facility and a big thank you to Zach and King who were outstanding. And I cannot forget Tonya -- the wound care Queen. She would come in the room like a Tornado, work her magic, and be on to the next patient to ease his or her discomfort. She was a true leader and exceptional. Zach, King and Tonya - -thanks for allowing me the privilege of being your patient and receiving your expert level care. You made a difference in my life and recovery and I will never forget you.

I was referred from Alamo city urgent care on 2000 SE Loop 410 and the Baptist Neighborhood Hospital clinic on 2111 SE Loop 410 Acc Rd, before I came here both of these mention clinics are a waste of time, unprofessional, inexperienced, and unknowledgeable. I would not recommend care there at all I’m not sure what they help with but it’s not urgent or emergency care at all find a bigger hospital. the ambulance ride was traumatizing for a baby with bad separation anxiety, I would not recommend taking an ambulance take a regular car ride to whatever hospital no matter how far to avoid a stressful panic attack. the man who sat with us assumed I was a neglectful parent he was, judgmental, and rude claiming that my baby was clearly in pain and running temp he wasn’t I had papers of his stats and had to showed him. He claimed they weren’t on the paperwork I pointed it out to him. He questioned me further about my choices of not letting the ER give IV Antibiotics but I felt they hesitated a lot and had bad attitudes so i chose to advocate for my baby’s best interest at the time. the man made inconsiderate assumptions and did not help the situation of my baby having a panic attack at all. The North central Baptist Hospital Was knowledgeable just arrogant, unhinged, temperamental, judgmental, and mentally unstable I’m guessing because they don’t get therapy for the stressful job that is endured on a daily basis builds up to the point they take it out on patients and guest. I think they should have Acess to AI therapy on their phones available 24/7 to use so they don’t act so mentally unstable and projecting onto others I find their overall mannerisms inappropriate and disrespectful. I don’t like that they forcibly wanted to prescribe my 23 month year old baby pill form (powdered medication) instead of liquid it was not working for my baby he vomited it within seconds of eating it even mixed into other foods not enough time to give a spoonful of anything else soon after because he was gagging and choking to vomit it out. It works for older toddlers not younger than 2years old. The ER pediatric nurse was very rude and unprofessional gave me a very hard time with requesting liquid form I was interrogated relentlessly. I got his meds eventually they agreed to prescribe the liquid medication from HEB they offer apple, mango, and watermelon but somehow I got bubblegum flavor which he is able to take and keep down with Epoca cool plus yogurt cultured drink (Costco). The overall stay was mildly uncomfortable, the lights don’t dim at all, it’s very cold especially near the window, we weren’t able to sleep hardly and the recliner and fold out couch feel like concrete coated with faux leather no matter how you turn or blankets used you’ll feel like your sleeping in the ground. Body hurting and feet swelling from the pressure of being on the second floor was overwhelming to deal with even for 3 days. The commode chair legs had old hard rusted pee stains that stunk. Didn’t feel comfortable taking a shower because you can get athlete's foot a bacterial fungal infection from unclean shower floors we didn’t have flip flops or none were offered. In pain, sleep deprived, and unable to shower we endured the hospital stay. The food was affordable $8/meal and good selection but I don’t like having to call to place an order it too much of a hassle. I would much rather prefer a more efficient and convenient way to order like a downloadable App to select things for all meals in the days and everything allowed for each meal, time period, time you want to receive orders, payment, and etc. I would like to have doctors in the future that are knowledgeable in herbal medicine and probiotics/prebiotics healthcare practices. (Things that are natural and actually make people better with much less side effects) Thank you for giving my baby IV Antibiotics he is recovering A lot better. I hope hospitals make more improvements because the stay overall was barely tolerable and needs improvement with unhinged staff and lacking accommodations.

Geneyln was an Old School Nursing Assistant who’s knew how to real help you. She wrapped my IV site so I could shower, changed my linens and made my bed . She made me a cup of hot tea to sip on and checked on me throughout the day. I felt very cared for as I did from all members of my care team from the 4 th floor. My room was 414 Kathleen
