About North Central Baptist Hospital

Baptist Rehab Centers is located in San Antonio, Texas. The hospital offers many services, including co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. They have a specialized Geriatric Mental Health Program for the elderly that treats depression and substance and/or medication-induced depressive disorder in seniors. They accept private health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and military insurance, such as TRICARE.

A Unique Addiction and Mental Health Program for Seniors

The hospital is located just outside the heart of San Antonio and is convenient to US Highway 281. San Antonio has a vibrant culture, a rich history, and historical landmarks including The Alamo. The San Antonio River Walk is a pedestrian walkway along the river with shops, restaurants, and other attractions where clients can rest and recharge.

The hospital has a unique program for seniors called the Advanced Recovery After Surgery program. The program reduces the risk of addiction to pain medications by limiting the amount of pain medications and opioids used when clients have surgery.

Seniors have different depression related experiences than children, teens, and young adults. Depression may be triggered by the withdrawal or use of certain substances and medications. The staff has experience assisting seniors with detox and related depressive disorders, as well as other co-occurring mental health issues.

Adjunct Therapies and Services in San Antonio, Texas

In addition to their outpatient services, they also offer an inpatient program that provides 24/7 care including detox and therapy. Because this is a hospital, clients can receive integrated medical care and adjunct services to complement their addiction and mental health treatment.

In addition to the senior program, they offer gender specific care that addresses the unique challenges faced by each gender. The adolescent program offers an age appropriate setting and therapies.

The hospital has private rooms to ensure your personal space and comfort during recovery. They have a business center with secure computer stations and high speed internet to assist students and professionals while in treatment. This is a comprehensive treatment setting where clients can get the care they need for a long lasting recovery.

This was not the best experience for my daughter and I, going into the triage portion of the ER. The nurse Deborah asking questions was sarcastic and rude in her responses. As a parent I tried to explain some of the things my daughter wasn’t saying, and I got a snarky sarcastic response “Well, that’s why we’re here aren’t we, to see what’s going on!”… it wasn’t the words per say, but how she was saying it. It was very unprofessional and uncalled for. I hope with this review there is proper training in customer service and manners taught to this staff member, especially when they handle patients care. Although, I can say everyone else was really great once we were in a room, which is why we actually came here.

First two pages are from this location. Last image (on green paper) is from Methodist When we arrived the front desk lady did great. The staff was, “alright” it seems they only care about the job, and not the people at all. Which in the medical field you have to care about both. You can view our arrival time and our discharge time on the first page. They had to redo labs again and the doctor never came to speak on either results. All he (MD Michael McLaren) did was go in to talk to my husband about symptoms and then we never saw him again. He actually left the hospital without us seeing him and they tried discharging us without speaking to us about ANYTHING! The lady doctor (didn’t get name, but she’s a white lady) was in his place by the time they wanted us to leave. I asked for a CT scan, but she said she didn’t think it’d do anything. Which if CT scans don’t do anything why do you guys provide them then? You don’t need extreme bleeding to perform a CT scan. I do have a recording of her saying so btw. The medicine they, “prescribed” was NOT prescribed and only listed. No one asked for a pharmacy or anything. They did not care to help us and failed to put us at ease. We literally thought my husband was going to die soon this month or next month because we had no idea if he had a blockage and they refused a CT scan. We stayed there for HOURS … I am extremely disappointed with the service here. WHY are the staff INCLUDING the doctors incompetent here?? There was ONLY 3 people including my husband in the waiting room… Methodist had a FULL LOBBY and they did amazing considering the amount of people and slightly low staff they had.. they had COMPASSION something NC Baptist did NOT have. You’d think Methodist would be the one receiving this 1 star review, but no.. they’re getting 5 stars bc even though the heavy traffic of patients was present the compassion and care for their patients didn’t dissipate. So if you love robotic people who don’t keep track of their patients go here!

Words cannot fully express my profound appreciation for the truly exceptional care my son is receiving here as he battles severe pneumonia. The nurses have been nothing short of extraordinary. Their attention is unwavering, and their approach is so genuinely warm and accommodating, transforming what could be an incredibly stressful and long hospital stay into a period that feels as peaceful and uneventful as possible. They consistently treat my son with dignity and respect, providing comfort that goes beyond their medical duties. I want to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to the entire @liftteam, and most particularly to Isaiah. Knowing my son is fragile, the gentleness and careful precision they use when cleaning and rotating him is an immense comfort. It is clear they understand the delicate nature of his condition and handle him with incredible tenderness. I am so very glad and feel deeply fortunate to have entrusted my son's life and well-being to the dedicated and compassionate staff at this hospital. Their skill, humanity, and tireless effort are making all the difference.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
