About North Central Baptist Hospital

Baptist Rehab Centers is located in San Antonio, Texas. The hospital offers many services, including co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. They have a specialized Geriatric Mental Health Program for the elderly that treats depression and substance and/or medication-induced depressive disorder in seniors. They accept private health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and military insurance, such as TRICARE.

A Unique Addiction and Mental Health Program for Seniors

The hospital is located just outside the heart of San Antonio and is convenient to US Highway 281. San Antonio has a vibrant culture, a rich history, and historical landmarks including The Alamo. The San Antonio River Walk is a pedestrian walkway along the river with shops, restaurants, and other attractions where clients can rest and recharge.

The hospital has a unique program for seniors called the Advanced Recovery After Surgery program. The program reduces the risk of addiction to pain medications by limiting the amount of pain medications and opioids used when clients have surgery.

Seniors have different depression related experiences than children, teens, and young adults. Depression may be triggered by the withdrawal or use of certain substances and medications. The staff has experience assisting seniors with detox and related depressive disorders, as well as other co-occurring mental health issues.

Adjunct Therapies and Services in San Antonio, Texas

In addition to their outpatient services, they also offer an inpatient program that provides 24/7 care including detox and therapy. Because this is a hospital, clients can receive integrated medical care and adjunct services to complement their addiction and mental health treatment.

In addition to the senior program, they offer gender specific care that addresses the unique challenges faced by each gender. The adolescent program offers an age appropriate setting and therapies.

The hospital has private rooms to ensure your personal space and comfort during recovery. They have a business center with secure computer stations and high speed internet to assist students and professionals while in treatment. This is a comprehensive treatment setting where clients can get the care they need for a long lasting recovery.

Communication is poor between staff and departments. Supplies are scarce or not available at all. No extra pillows, wedge supports or wound patches. Prescription Meds were not updated or given for days. While waiting two days for a surgery to be scheduled, not one staff member had presence of mind to see if the 87 year old patient should have food. I would give zero stars if possible.

The nurses were all wonderful. But my husband needed to see the cardiologist. We kept getting told that he would be in soon. Over 2 hours and we never saw him. We told them to get discharge papers, they did and we left. I also wasn't impressed by the hospitalist

Had a baby here and it was horrible. I came in around 6 pm and triage wasn't concerned. I explained I was in labor and was asked if I was sure. My husband asked if he should move his truck since he parked upfront and they told him probably not since the doubted I was dilated. Mind you I'm openly sobbing in pain. They keep trying to do labs and are using the same cannula over and over which led to bruising that lasted months. The entire time I'm being told to just calm down. When they finally get around to checking, I'm 7 cm dilated. Finally I'm sent upstairs to have my baby. The whole time I'm being yelled to stop moving, calm down. I understand they are trying to do what they need to do but if I was taken seriously when I walked in, I wouldn't be in such pain now. It was such a horrible experience, I'm terrified of coming back when I decide to have a second child. Rocket was amazing though. The actual delivery team was terrific. Everyone before them was horrible. They even had a doula come in and stare at me for like three minutes before she left without saying anything. Every nurse post delivery were pretty great too. The old man who is a pediatrician who checks on your baby needs to go though. Completely rude. Again, I want so say thank you to the three people who actually delivered my child and the nurses afterwards. Triage can suck an egg.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Without a doubt the worst hospital ever, my daughter went in for surgery and the whole experience down to the nurses (except for Lisa) were a nightmare. The nurses on fifth floor were rude and lacked any bedside manner. No one was attentive at all. For the location of the hospital I am highly unimpressed. This hospitals fifth floor staff needs retraining in care and compassion. If I could give it no stars I would.
