About North Central Baptist Hospital

Baptist Rehab Centers is located in San Antonio, Texas. The hospital offers many services, including co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. They have a specialized Geriatric Mental Health Program for the elderly that treats depression and substance and/or medication-induced depressive disorder in seniors. They accept private health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and military insurance, such as TRICARE.

A Unique Addiction and Mental Health Program for Seniors

The hospital is located just outside the heart of San Antonio and is convenient to US Highway 281. San Antonio has a vibrant culture, a rich history, and historical landmarks including The Alamo. The San Antonio River Walk is a pedestrian walkway along the river with shops, restaurants, and other attractions where clients can rest and recharge.

The hospital has a unique program for seniors called the Advanced Recovery After Surgery program. The program reduces the risk of addiction to pain medications by limiting the amount of pain medications and opioids used when clients have surgery.

Seniors have different depression related experiences than children, teens, and young adults. Depression may be triggered by the withdrawal or use of certain substances and medications. The staff has experience assisting seniors with detox and related depressive disorders, as well as other co-occurring mental health issues.

Adjunct Therapies and Services in San Antonio, Texas

In addition to their outpatient services, they also offer an inpatient program that provides 24/7 care including detox and therapy. Because this is a hospital, clients can receive integrated medical care and adjunct services to complement their addiction and mental health treatment.

In addition to the senior program, they offer gender specific care that addresses the unique challenges faced by each gender. The adolescent program offers an age appropriate setting and therapies.

The hospital has private rooms to ensure your personal space and comfort during recovery. They have a business center with secure computer stations and high speed internet to assist students and professionals while in treatment. This is a comprehensive treatment setting where clients can get the care they need for a long lasting recovery.

I 100% do not recommend this hospital for labor and delivery. It was a pleasant experience when I first got there but as soon as I needed the epidural it all went down hill. The anesthesiologist Dr. Anson was absolutely horrible he had no compassion and no idea what he was doing. He was very rude which I thought was so unprofessional especially since he had students with him. He gave up doing my epidural and I had to go unmedicated for my birth. I was in so much pain and the nurses and Dr. Zamora were so rude and not compassionate about my situation at all. I would 100% recommend that the anesthesiologist go through more training and the doctors and nurses have more respect and patience. I would never come back here again.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Delivered my sweet baby boy on 8/14 and I just wanna say my two nurses Jessica and Desirae made my delivery so smooth and easy! A huge shoutout to them for being so kind and compassionate throughout the whole process. I was lucky enough to have them basically from start to finish during my labor and their calm confidence in absolutely everything that they did was so reassuring as a FTM. Thank you lady’s for everything you do and thank you for giving me an amazing birth !!!

Response from the owner
Thank you for your positive feedback, Jillian. We are thrilled you had a great experience.

Every single class, practice visit, and ob triage visit was wonderful. Learning so much about the hospital, areas, nurses, doctors, and the experience as a whole did wonders in helping us prepare for the delivery. The labor, delivery, and post partum treatment teams were astounding! Every nurse, consultant, doctor, lacation helper, and even every house keeping crew member was patient, kind, understanding, and made us feel safe and at home. The teams worked flawlessly throughout the entire experience, taking care of us day and night, and educating us every step of the way. I was completely blown away with how smooth everything went, weither it was 3pm or 3am, and would definitely recommend this place to others for their pre and post delivery experience.

Thank you for your positive feedback, Wayne. We are thrilled you had a great experience.

I hate to leave here one star but now after the absolute frustration with getting documents to you it's impossible to just simply email a death certificate. You're forcing me to actually go find a fax machine fax machines are from the 1990s. I don't even know how to buy a stamp you want me to put a stamp on an envelope and mail it to you as well.. come on people get with the program what's wrong with a freaking email??????? Other than the sour ending really good quality of care! Since I posted this review a nice gentleman called back and offered assistance. Other than the technology used for documents it was a very pleasurable clinical experience for my mother.

Response from the owner
Chris, we are so sorry about your loss. You have our deepest condolences . We’d like to learn more about your experience , please email patientexperience@tenethealth.com with your contact information and the patient's name so that we can reach out to you directly.

My daughter gave birth to her first child here at NCB on July 20th 2025. From the very beginning all the way up to discharge, everything went great. Labor and Delivery and Everyone who worked there from the front desk, emergency room staff to nurses were very positive, professional, courteous and caring. This made for a great experience for my daughter who has learned a lot throughout her stay. We couldn't of asked for a better doctor... Dr. Okay Okali of the Advanced Women's Center. He delivered our granddaughter with attentiveness and care. He's an awesome doctor. A special shout out and thanks to all of the following wonderful women who took care of my daughter and granddaughter: Brittany Brittney Juanita Jazzmin Danielle Lisa Christina Avery Lindsey Kami Lauren Brianne Jen Destiny Jeanette Emily Yovanni With the utmost gratitude we absolutely appreciate your dedication, professionalism and kindness. Peace and Many Blessings to you and your families... Thank You So Much! 💝
