I have an adult son with special needs, and getting blood work done for him is always a challenging experience. I choose Pediq-lab (20 Madison Oak Dr, San Antonio, TX 78258) primarily because of the outstanding nurses, Margo and Cory. They are kind, patient, and always go out of their way to accommodate my son's unique needs. I am truly grateful for the extra effort they put into making the blood draw process as smooth as possible. However, scheduling appointments with Pediq-lab has been somewhat challenging. Despite multiple attempts from various doctor's offices to send the required paperwork, the scheduling team frequently claims they haven t received the fax, even when I provide confirmation numbers. These faxes are often sent multiple times but still don t appear in the system, sometimes even after 2 or 3 weeks. This forces me to visit the doctor's office in person to collect the paperwork and personally deliver it to the lab, which is especially difficult given my son's special needs. When I raised this concern with the scheduling team, I was told they couldn t confirm when faxes would be processed. On another occasion, despite explaining that this has been a recurring issue, the representative was unable to resolve the situation, and the call ended without any resolution. It would be extremely helpful if the scheduling team could ensure that faxes are processed in a timely manner, as it would greatly simplify the appointment scheduling process for caretakers who already have a lot to manage.During my most recent visit, I had to drive to the doctor s office again to retrieve the fax. However, Margo, the incredible nurse, took it upon herself to personally fax it for me. She didn t have to do this, but she did, and I m truly grateful for her effort. Afterward, the scheduling team went ahead and scheduled the appointment after I mentioned that Margo had faxed it directly from NCB. I brought the hard copy with me to be on the safe side.Margo and Cory are exceptional professionals who consistently go above and beyond to provide excellent care. I am deeply thankful for everything they do. They are real gems in the medical field, and I can t express enough how much I appreciate them. The 5 stars is for Margo and Cory. Thank you, Margo and Cory!

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Delivered my first baby here, May 30! Absolutely wonderful experience, the L&D unit is something NCBH has perfected. The nurses were diligent, and precise at their job but also warm and friendly. The OBGYN that delivered was very knowledgeable, direct, and great at her job. Postpartum was a good experience. Lots of learning happened and 9 times out of 10 the staffing was great. HOWEVER: Where NCBH NEEDS to improve: Train your desk workers/paper work people on bedside manner ASAP! We were 4 hours post delivery, so 2hrs postpartum, I’m trying to learn breast feeding, dealing with the baby, etc. very exposed, and their financial department guy (maybe 20’s-30’s male) awkwardly knocks, comes right in with his clipboard and starts rattling off the bill and how much we owe with insurance and if we can make a payment now or with the hospital soon… excuse me? I’m completely vulnerable and exposed, just had a huge life milestone and I’m no where near mentally capable of processing the payment method right now. It was just very awkward timing. Quite a few times the paperwork people side of the hospital just barges in and has no regard for privacy or announcing who it is until they’re half way in. Thankfully the pediatrician pulled the curtain and actually had amazing bedside manner, announcing themselves and letting me cover up for some privacy. When it comes to discharging, they are quick. There’s no time for questions etc. it feels like. It could’ve just been our discharge nurse at the time but we felt very rushed. Everyone else was very excellent. Lastly, CAR SEATS?! It’s a whole hospital that has all these offices, care teams, baby classes, breast feeding education, but they can’t have one CPST around?! They basically say “we don’t want to be liable so look up a YouTube video for the car seat is my recommendation” Why not have a CPST or two around? The hospital is missing profit here, they could hold car seat safety classes too. Seems like another swing and miss from that aspect. So overall, I’d deliver here again but be more assertive and protect my privacy and bonding moments more.

My wife was on the 4th floor and the nursing staff there was phenomenal, but she is right at this moment on the 5th floor and the staff sucks. Nursing staff were called and I had to make a second call 15 minutes later to which they came, I walked out after another 10 minutes had passed and instead of getting what my wife needed, all 4 female nursing staff were standing around, giggling like they don't have patients to care for. Ridiculous that I am going to have to make it known, this is the type of care to expect on this side of town. As I stated, the 4th-floor staff, the only person I can remember is Nurse Josué, who did an awesome job, apologies to the other 4th-floor staff, I don't recall any other names, but you guys were great with patient care!!!

I had my baby delivered here and everyone was so sweet and kind to me even when my body struggled to recover in the beginning they all were so encouraging and helpful. But the Nurse who helped me the most and made me feel like not only a patient but like a normal person and family was Jordan from postpartum recovery. She was my nurse for the majority of my recovery and she made everyday a delight even when I felt awful. She held my hand when I had to change the spot where my iv was and encourage me through my iron and blood transfusion. I’m so thankful for her. Jordan is very out going nurse that makes everyone feel welcome and she’s absolutely amazing.

On April 19th, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Rylee Rae! I want to sincerely thank the incredible staff who supported me throughout my experience, especially to my RN Jasmine and my Ob Dr. Katherine Hall. Giving birth is a life-changing experience and I will always remember my RN Jasmine for the role she played in making it a positive and empowering one. I’m deeply grateful, and I hope this recognition reaches her. Thank you North Central Baptist Hospital for having such dedicated and compassionate staff!

My elderly father ended up having some random symptoms that were too serious to ignore and indicated a stroke. He ended up in NCB for observation and additional testing. We were sent up to the floor with some admission paperwork through the ED. When we arrived on the unit, there was no one to be found. We could have literally walked around the unit and caused all kinds of havoc because no one knew we were there. A couple of people saw us, but no one spoke to us. Then someone at the complete other end of the hallway came down to ask us what we needed help with. Are units not notified when new patients are on the way up? Is an escort to a floor at night not standard procedure? We were admitted through the ED after going to a Neighborhood Hospital first. The night time RN was very condescending and in a hurry when talking to my dad. I was in the room and witnessed everything. The daytime RN, Lori, was amazing and easy to talk to. My Dad was only seen by a general hospitalist and no specialists which was a BIG patient dissatisfier for me and my dad. The hospitalist provider did not even come to talk to me or my father face to face. He called me on the phone while I was sitting in the room...and then the RN proceeded to tell me he was coming up to the floor for something else if I had any more questions?!? The provider also told me he was going to prescribe a medication. To which I had to tell him my father had been on that medication at that dosage for years. His answer was..."oh, I didn't see that in his chart, he should just keep taking it". Then I proceeded to ask about the obvious symptoms that still had not resolved. The hospitalist said "We don't know why he has those symptoms, but he's released with no restrictions." Because my dad apparently didn't fit the most common stroke protocol, they decided they were not going to look for anything else and just send him home. He is still having some stroke like symptoms that are not resolved, if not slightly worse. I have never been in a hospital where so many people acted like they didn't care if a patient had a serious problem or not. So, Lori,...daytime RN in PCU - thank you for being the one bright spot we experienced during this scary 24 hours, keep up the awesome work!! You are appreciated and noticed!!! WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO NCB IF WE HAVE A CHOICE!!
