I needed to take time out to give a big shout out to Cenikor Austin! I graduated December 30th 2025, was helped into sober living, and am STILL sober. 55 days today! 😁 Who would have thought such a short program could activate such a change??? The design of this program, excellent. The food, exceptional. The success rate/alumni, off the chain! 🤗 And for ALL of the staff...there's not enough words or space to say how I feel about what they do for the women and men there on a daily basis. From the cooks to the case managers, I experienced nothing but GENUINE care, love, and concern. Our experience with Alpha has been nothing short of transformative for my 15-year-old son. When we first sought help following my son's overdose, I was overwhelmed with concern and uncertainty. Alpha BH is such a good resource for adult men, as well as adolescent boys and girls who struggle with Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health. I have personally sent around 5 men here, and all have reported back positive feedback about the program, and all say the staff there truly care. Plus, they’re located deep in the heart of Austin!

[EDIT/UPDATE] Well, it’s been 5 years since I posted the brief review seen above, and I feel like both this clinic AND me deserve something of an update.
I am still a patient of the clinic’s, albeit a patient whose chaotic and life-threatening issues with opiate addiction thankfully have been thoroughly tamed. While Google Reviews isn’t the appropriate venue to detail the grittier personal details encompassed within an individual case of opiate addiction disorder, I will share without hesitation the undeniable reality that without the service of professionally compassionate treatment of the addiction nightmare which first brought me to their doorstep, I would not be alive and able to compose the review you’re now reading.
How very happy I AM here today, able to talk about this treatment and the improvements to and gains made in my life, none of which would have been remotely possible without the service provided by this clinic. Relationships shattered by the damage wrought by addiction have been repaired. My apartment becomes a nicer and more enjoyable place to call home with each passing year as I replace belongings that I sold or traded for drugs in the past and add new ones I never had the chance to enjoy “back then.”
It’s easier to look in the mirror now that I put on new, clean clothes that
I like to wear, instead of rummaging through piles of tattered threads, searching for the least dirty garments I first got from donation bins and the like. My self-esteem grows each passing day. I no longer avert my eyes from those of the people I encounter.
I no longer find myself having to constantly look over my proverbial shoulder, worried that the people I know will steal my belongings at the first opportunity they see to do so. I no longer find myself incarcerated, wondering what lunkheaded thing I did to land myself there while I was, no doubt, blacked-out thanks to some atrociously dangerous combination of opiates, benzodiazepines, and anything else I might have imbibed while barking at the moon. Good grief, am I ever glad that those days seem finally to be behind me.
One more killer perk which I suspect just might appeal to someone out there: I haven’t been dope-sick—or, I suppose I ought to say “in withdrawal”—not even once since the first day I began treatment.
Not.
Even.
Once.
So, if you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired, do yourself a gigantic, merciful favor by picking up the phone and giving these fine folks a ringy-dingy-ding. You could literally change your life today. Never have I regretted my decision to do so.

September 19th of 2017 I checked into Briarwood after another failed attempt to handle my substance abuse issue on my own. It was a great place to start my recovery journey and I’m so grateful because thanks to their help, that was the last day I used or drank. Unlike some other detoxes, this is not a hospital setting, but they still have nurses there available all the time. So it felt more comfortable (as comfortable as detox can be). The staff were all very attentive and kind. Counselors were accessible and I appreciated the fact that they set you up with a plan. My only advice is to take suggestions, these people know what they are doing and truly care and want clients to succeed. They were able to coordinate a transition into residential treatment for me which helped me stay sober long term. Thank y’all for giving me my life back!

By God’s grace and Britanny’s help my son is doing so much better. Words could never express my appreciation for the team at La Hacienda. The buildings are older than I expected, but the love and treatment there is state of the art. The time spent there will put you or your love one on the right track to the life you are seeking. The family program is not easy, but plays a huge role in success. The family support during and after is amazing. It is like an extended family reunion of support each week, where joys are celebrated and those experiencing set backs are supported. What a awesome clinic! I moved here from Florida 8 months ago and was so nervous about changing clinics. But this clinic has made the transition so smooth. I went to alumni last week to get my 1 year sobriety coin and it was my first visit in about 6 months, and what a total disappointment this has become !
Only 2 people spoke the entire time, not even asking if anyone else would like to share, which I had planned on doing, and I'm not joking when I say that both of their speeches was reminiscing about how much fun they had when they were on drugs or alcohol.
The meeting ran over by almost 30 minutes because both of them took so long, and to make it even worse, they didn't even have any 1 year sobriety coins !!

It was a wonderful recovery place when I attended, now it's a JOKE !
Waste of my time, never going back!
I feel sorry for the inpatient people that were there because that alumni meeting did absolutely nothing to help them !

Upon reading these reviews of the Brownwood VA and the behavior of the staff at the reception area I am wondering why people like this keep their job . Is it that administration is just too lazy to address it, no one else wants their jobs or have they just " always done it that way '' ? There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to be rude, if that is your thing , get a job at the salebarn pushing cattle up the alley to sell ! Evidently the doctors are not much better because they cannot seem to do anything for a severely broken collarbone that has OBVIOUSLY NOT Grafted in a year now . I sure wouldn't trust them with anything else. What kind of place is our government running, these men and women DESERVE better than this ! There is a law passed that a Veteran can see any doctor , but they have to live farther than 40 miles from a VA clinic. That needs to change !

There is a new doctor at the VA Medical Clinic in Brownwood, and he is amazing! He asked questions and actually listened to my answers. When I asked questions, he answered. He spent time explaining things. I sure hope this is a turning point to upgrade this clinic that has gotten so many bad reviews due to the disrespectful and uncaring attitudes of some of the front line personnel. I actually felt like I was heard and respected. Very good doctor's appointment this year! I am impressed and grateful.
