About Sage Recovery & Wellness Center: Alcohol & Drug Rehab Austin Texas

Sage Recovery & Wellness Center in Austin, Texas, is a holistic recovery facility that offers addiction treatment for adults and adolescents. Clients have the option of being treated in the intensive outpatient program or the partial hospitalization program. An aftercare program is also available once clients have completed their recovery.

The staff at Sage Recovery consists of health professionals who specialize in different areas of substance use and mental health. These areas include trauma, early recovery and family conflict. All of their staff members have education in psychology and other human services, as well as a passion for supporting vulnerable individuals.

Intensive outpatient care allows patients to get structured therapy and support while being able to maintain their daily routines. A customized plan will be given to patients by the team of counselors and therapists on staff.

Clients in the adult intensive outpatient program are expected to attend the facility four days a week and three hours a day. The types of treatment modalities that will be used include acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Each is designed to help clients better understand the cause of their addiction and develop coping skills to help prevent them from relapsing.

The adolescent intensive outpatient program tailors treatment to high school-aged adolescents. The program specifically utilizes dialectical behavioral therapy techniques for treatment. These techniques focus on developing distress tolerance and emotion regulation.

Adolescent clients will also learn about mindfulness and receive education on the link between substance abuse and mental health. Given how substance abuse affects families, Sage Recovery encourages parents to participate in the healing process by attending a minimum of four family therapy sessions throughout the seven-week program.

I was at the Villa. Beautiful house. Big problems. They don t take my insurance so my family paid out of pocket. When I got there my bags and purse were taken. I got back some of my items but had to keep asking for personal items (shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, etc) one of the computer tech said I didn t bring much with me knowing I would be gone for weeks. My journal (my daughter bought me) was missing so was my panties, purse, sunglasses and cap. I kept asking for them. The same computer tech said I was wrong and I didn t bring these things to keep looking around my room. Some items started slowly showing up in the clothes hampers. The Physic-an Assistant, Katie, is there but if you need her they will call her after 5. Or if you have problems during the day you can go see her but you have to go to her. This was hard. I had a stroke the night before and there was no one that heard my calls for help. There is not a Doctor on duty at the Villa like they claim. The counselors there are not good. Several ones saw I was having problems and turned their head. The physical problems I was having didn t stop and there answer was to put me in the bed in my room and shut the door. I found dried blood stains at the head of my bed. When you finally get to talk to your spouse someone stays with you at the time of the call. No privacy to share the things I was dealing with. One of the Counselor even talked about going ahead and commit suicide. This same counselor saw I was having shaking problems and said I needed to rest. I asked if he reported it, he said yes. Another Counselor saw me shaking another time and didn t help me. When I asked her she said she saw I was having problems. A computer tech who you saw for medicines saw me shaking and when I asked for help. He asked me what did I want him to do. I m not a doctor and neither is he. The smart thing would be for a Doctor to be there like they claimed. The PA kept changing my medicines. The computer tech at night until morning would read books and worn red colored contacts. I did end up going to the emergency room twice because I thought I was having a heart attack. The first one was a stroke. The second time I thought I was having a heart attack. The PA told me they are not equipped for people with disabilities. Which was oblivious due to no hand rails anywhere. If you have any issues they make it so you want to leave. None caring place. The majority of the staff are returning patients. There main goal is to get you in and paid for Services that don t exist. I still have nightmares from this place. The counselor do not have degrees.

they preach honestly and then kick you out of the program when you are honest. Was in here for an opiate addiction and they kicked me out when I admitted I had one beer. No second chances. They are here for your money only.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Sage Recovery and Wellness Center's Dual Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) are designed to be both therapeutic and educationally empowering. Group lessons are specially tailored to each individual client’s treatment needs, consist of psychoeducation and open processing, and are offered in the morning and evening. Treatment modalities pull from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-Oriented Recovery Enhancement.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Peer support is an important aspect of group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction. As you and your peers share stories and encourage each other, it fosters a sense of community and belonging that helps you process your feelings and reduces the sense of isolation that is associated with addiction.

Individual therapy is an one-on-one 60-90 minute session with a masters level therapist in a safe, caring and confidential environment that allows space to explore and work through feelings, belief, behaviors, thoughts, and influential memories. People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to, identifying and working towards desired change, set personal goals, cope with major life challenges or trauma, and dealing with mental health diagnoses. The client and therapist will work together to identify the specific target area and create specific goals around issues.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Family therapy is done to assist family members in improving communication and resolve existing conflict. It is conducted by master level clinicians in a confidential, safe, and caring environment. The family will work together to identify specific areas of concern and work together as a team to resolve it. While in therapy, the focus is put on increasing skills around handling conflict, thus, reducing it. Family therapy can also be used for a family who’s loved one is engaging in risky behavior, in order to help the family establish boundaries with that loved one and learn tools to assist them in helping this individual get help or to maintain their sobriety.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy in Texas can look different for each person. You may engage in fitness activities, community service, culinary arts, or art therapy, for example. The goal is to provide a safe setting where you can interact with your environment and work through emotions and experiences with the help of that activity and the guidance of a therapist.

Not only to myself, but to Sage, I owe a depth of gratitude for my success in my journey towards sobriety. From the clinicians/techs/chefs & more, comfortable amenities and daily structure in wellness activity provided the best opportunity for success. This journey, though not easy, wouldn't be possible had I not sought out help from Sage Recovery. My life has improved tremendously as a healthier human and my mental health struggles faced head-on. Thank you! I would recommend 100%.

I have waited for over a year to write this review to ensure my time at Sage was indeed "life-changing". I can now confidently say, my decision to seek therapy there was one of the best decisions I have ever made. For over 30 years I struggled with depression and anxiety and turned to alcohol to cope. But thanks to the therapists and counselors at the center, I now have the resources to manage my emotions in a healthy way. I feel like I've regained control of my life, and I'm excited to move forward with a new sense of confidence and purpose. I also attend their alumni group, which offers individuals free, weekly social events that provide ongoing support, education, and networking opportunities. It's an excellent resource for anyone in recovery who wants to continue their journey towards wellness and a better life. Overall, I would highly recommend Sage Recovery Center to anyone struggling with addiction or mental health issues. The environment is wonderful, the people are fantastic, and the support you receive is truly "life-changing". If you're looking for a place to help you get back on track, this is it.

I had an excellent experience at Sage Villa inpatient, and a truly disappointing experience in their mental health IOP. There is no process as a part of the program, which makes no sense to me. Instead it is 3 hours of DBT skill taught poorly by the clinician Frank. He was great at assisting clients who were doing well, but for those like myself who were struggling he would simply skip over us with no feedback or compassion. I needed a higher level of care and feel he should have recommended that given my SI. I did not grasp the skills the way he taught them and when I’d ask for clarification he would repeat it in the same way. I gained so much more in my skills classes at inpatient, even the interns led groups with more clarity and compassion. I urge you to look elsewhere for mental health IOP. Discovery and Seton both have better programs.

DO NOT GO HERE. Take your business anywhere else. The billing department will charge you for multiple appointments at once possibly weeks or months later. You will try to call the billing department to figure out what the charges are from because they don't send you the invoice only to get the run around from the newest company handling the accounting (there have been 5 different companies in 2 years). Then when they finally try to call you they call you from a blocked number that iPhones automatically send straight to voicemail. They know this they just don't care. They also tried over charging me, I had to go directly to my insurance company to verify the correct co-pay amount before they corrected it and gave me a refund for the correct amount, they also send you a check instead of transferring back to your card. I've worked in customer service my entire life and have never been more frustrated and disappointed by a business. That's all this place is, a business, out to take your money. They don't care about the clientele at all. I've also been trying to get a paid in full statement on my account so I don't have to be one of the many people I know who get charges MONTHS later after they have stopped being a client here. It's been 15 days and I'm still going back and forth emailing Anna Warde the Clinical Manager.
