About South Meadows Recovery – Austin

South Meadows Recovery is an alcohol and drug rehab center for adults in Austin, Texas. They offer different levels of outpatient care to help you move beyond your addiction and find a healthier life. You can also find transitional housing services through them. They accept self pay and private insurance.

South Meadows Recovery – Austin is located in the heart of Texas. This is an addiction treatment center open to individuals who are seeking substance use recovery. Situated in a peaceful yet easily accessible location, the site offers a safe and reassuring environment for rehabilitation. Flexible scheduling and an outpatient model allow clients to maintain a good balance between their treatment and other personal responsibilities. The center is accessible to those living and working in/around Austin and offers a pressure-free path to recovery.

Their services provide tailored programs, including partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, to allow clients to access total treatment together with a daily activity program. And unlike some facilities, here you can keep your cell phone with you to remain in contact with your loved ones. You’ll also have a dedicated counselor, rather than seeing multiple therapists or changing therapists during the treatment program. These structured treatment aspects provide a high degree of support during your most vulnerable moments of the rehabilitation process.

Beyond psychological therapy, the center functions on medication assisted treatment (MAT) and dual diagnosis support. Additionally, while enrolled in the program, you’re prepped to re-enter the workforce when you’re ready.

South Meadows accepts a wide array of insurance plans, making their services more accessible. They also provide a flexible schedule to increase treatment access for those who need to attend sessions outside of traditional business hours.

Very cold, unpleasant place to be. I did not feel welcomed there at all. They wouldn't help me get ID so I couldn't get a job. Because I couldn't get a job without ID I got behind on rent. Couldn't buy groceries and they didn't provide any food. Counselor said that because I'm white I shouldn't have any problem finding a job. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Out of nowhere they gave me 24hrs to move out cuz i was behind on rent. Didnt try to talk to me about it or help me find job or anything. People living in their sober living houses paying rent and they are also collecting money from the clients insurance company at the same time. Clients are always relapsing and one of the house managers even OD'ed and died in the house. It's nothing but AA jammed down your throat with no other pathways to recovery offered and they wonder why nobody is staying sober. Owner has the personality of a door knob and won't even make eye contact with you. No matter what I said about how desperate I was for someone to help me, they did nothing. Addiction and mental health issues are getting worse and worse and places like this are cashing in on it. Run. They will probably respond saying my claims are untrue. They won't accept responsibility for anything that happens in their sober living houses which are used by outpatient clients.

JW F, we’re not sure who you are or when you were with us, but we take feedback seriously and want to address a few things clearly.

We are an outpatient treatment center. If you were living in a sober living home, food and basic needs are your responsibility — just like rent. We offer limited support with job searches and obtaining IDs, but clients are expected to take initiative.

Some of the claims here are simply untrue, and personal attacks on our staff and leadership cross a line. We work hard to provide quality care and maintain a safe, respectful environment. If you're open to a real conversation, please reach out to us at info@southmeadowsrecovery.com.

Accepted Insurance

South Meadows Recovery – Austin works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. The Intensive Outpatient Program gives patients the chance to participate in a structured treatment plan part-time while they transition back to home and work or other responsibilities.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.

Programs

military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

The right life skills training will help you build the skills you need for recovery. You'll learn how to solve problems, improve your social life, enhance your mental health, and make good decisions. This is a key component of drug rehab programs in Texas.

Buyer beware. Get your fees/charges and paid items in writing up front and as you move through the treatment. I have excellent heath insurance through the City of Austin that covered everything, yet this company will not provide me with evidence of charges/paid in full. They continue sending me large invoices of many thousands of dollars.

Response from the owner
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you received a bill after your stay, and we understand how frustrating that can be. We are actively working to improve our accounting and billing processes to prevent issues like this in the future. We strive to never let something like this negatively impact a client. Please email us directly at info@southmeadowsrecovery.com so we can look into your account and work toward a resolution. We appreciate the opportunity to make things right.

South Meadows is incredible. I’ve known the founder, Jon Brown, for many years and am grateful to call him a friend. He has put his all into this place from the very start, and it absolutely shows in the way that South Meadows operates, as well as the success its clients (me being one of them) have in their recovery journeys. Great staff, great program, and great community. The houses are also really nice.

Response from the owner
Micah, Thank you for the review and kind words. Your recommendation here means a lot! 🙌

South Meadows had an incredible impact on my life. The staff was professional and kind, and at my worst, they loved me when I couldn t love myself. Now, with 3 1/2 years sober, I highly recommend South Meadows to anyone in need. Additionally, the owner offers affordable sober living options; I lived in one, and it was the most supportive environment I ve ever experienced. There was a strong sense of brotherhood and accountability. I m not sure if the two are affiliated, but if you re considering a geographical change for treatment and aren t from Austin, it might be worth asking them about Options.
