About the Facility

Blue Heron Recovery is an outpatient rehab facility located inside Los Patios in San Antonio, TX. Blue Heron Recovery specializes in the treatment of addiction with our PHP, IOP, and OP programs. We work with most major insurance providers.

Your recovery deserves a dynamic sober center attuned to your individual needs and preferences. At Blue Heron Recovery, you will gain the skills necessary to break the cycle of addiction and engage in opportunities for ongoing fellowship and fraternity.

You will have the flexibility to attend work, school, and family obligations while maintaining a connection with Blue Heron Recovery’s professional rehabilitation and recovery services. In your journey toward lasting abstinence from addiction and addictive behaviors, you’ll develop healthy habits, new interests, and social skills within different levels of treatment services: Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Program, Outpatient Therapy. In addition, as a graduate of Blue Heron Recovery’s program, you will continue to enhance support networks and personal growth.

Addiction is a family disease. Each week you will be offered a special evening of dinner and discussion with your friends and families as you come together in healing. Empowering family members, practical skills implementation, and an understanding of the processes and mechanisms related to addiction are paramount for family members. Topics included in these evening events are boundaries/codependency, patient/family needs, and family recovery.

When you reach alumni status at Blue Heron Recovery, your care continues. Referral services to complement treatment, and opportunities to maintain and enhance social and personal growth honor your alumni achievement. As a graduate of the Blue Heron Recovery program, you will also be invited to attend lectures, dinners, events, and join in clubhouse activities regularly.

OUR PROGRAMS:

Often referred to as a “day program”, the PHP program is Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm. You might choose to attend the PHP level after having completed detox and an residential program, or you may choose to start with PHP directly after detox because of other commitments (work, school, family obligations) that prevent you from attending a residential program. This level of care offers you a weekly individual session, group sessions, lectures, and activities as well enrichment opportunities such as community events, family meetings, recovery meetings, and use of the clubhouse. In addition, while in the PHP level of care, you will be invited to attend the two-hour Thursday evening family event each week. PHP offers you 32 hours of care each week and is typically attended for one-month duration.

IOP is a more flexible treatment program for which two options are offered: Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings (9am to noon) or Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings (6pm to 9pm.) This level of care offers you a weekly individual session, group sessions, lectures, and activities as well enrichment opportunities such as community events, family meetings, recovery meetings, and use of the clubhouse. In IOP, you will also be invited to attend the two-hour Thursday evening family event each week. IOP offers 11 hours of care each week and is typically attended for three months duration.

Outpatient therapy offers a weekly individual session and provides ongoing enrichment opportunities such as community events, family meetings, recovery meetings, and use of the clubhouse. This level of care is typically attended for six months duration.

car-building iconOutpatient

Clients are typically admitted to outpatient rehab once they have completed intensive inpatient care. Some clients who are exiting inpatient detox may also choose to transition directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education. Those in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

hospital iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as “day treatment,” a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
