My experience at Sylvia Brafman was tremendously positive. First and foremost, the treatment team all care tremendously about client success. I came in for co-occurring substance abuse (marijuana) and mental illness (bipolar type 1), and they have given me a surplus of tools to take with me as I am now transitioning back into normal living. The housing facility (I can only speak to men’s housing) is good - it creates a strong social environment and has amenities such as a pool, gym, and barbecue, though there was a hiccup with the AC not working that has since been addressed. Part of what’s great about the facility is that they cultivate independence, by taking you shopping for your own food which you then cook yourself. You prepare your own lunches to bring everyday, and additionally are encouraged to maintain hygiene. It can be difficult living with people that have intense mental illnesses, but that comes with the territory at any treatment center. The clinical side of things is excellent. You meet with an individual therapist a minimum of once a week, but typically you can meet with them again for family sessions, and additionally can meet with a life coach or case manager. Jackson, my therapist (who funnily enough has the same name as me) is amazing at diagnosing issues and more importantly, giving practical solutions. He is knowledgeable and relatable, and is one of four primary therapists they have here. The group facilitators are by and large equally amazing. Dr. Andy and Will G are both long-recovered addicts who emphasize individual attention and interactiveness in their group settings and create atmospheres that are engaging and truly therapeutic. There also is a patient advocate named Alexis who takes all clients under her wing and is always there at clinical for anyone that needs a quick pick-me-up. Dina and Keera, the respective clinical and housing directors, do a great job of running the show, and will take any suggestions without hesitation. If you are considering treatment here, know that it is the type of facility that will truly allow you to get out of treatment what you put into it. The more you come in willing to learn, the more you will get out of it. Additionally know that it is difficult and frustrating at times to have your freedoms restricted (you cannot leave housing and must attend all groups). This will be the case at any similar treatment facility. But Sylvia Brafman is truly above adequate at getting to the root of the problem and impressing solutions upon you, and the sacrifice is truly worth it for those truly struggling. They emphasize all treatment forms, including DBT, CBT, and psychoanalysis in their groups. This is a great way of making sure treatment can work for any individual, no matter the struggle. Lastly, family is included in therapy here in a way it isn’t at many other treatment facilities. In addition to weekly family sessions, they have weekly “family night” on Thursday evenings where family members are encouraged to join and learn what is going on in treatment from the perspective of select patients. Overall, what’s most important is that I came here a shell of myself - not even knowing who I was anymore when I looked in the mirror. I can honestly say thanks to SB for helping me find myself again… five stars.

I entered Slyvia Brafman in February 2025, I was struggling a lot in my life. Constantly not performing at work, substance abuse issues, and a major depression was putting my life on hold. Coming to Sylvia Brafman has changed my life. They met all my expectations on what a treatment center should provide and even beyond in certain areas. I’ve been to another treatment center before and this one was a stark difference. They genuinely care about the clients, Dina the clinical director is always available, her office door is open for clients to walk into at any time and is able to listen and help with any issues I had. Housing is great, they help us maintain a clean environment and the behavioral health technicians do a great job of keeping the peace between clients. They are very friendly while also maintaining a sense of discipline that demands respect. Particularly, Jerry, Ron, Daryl, DJ, and mark did an amazing job of making me feel comfortable and while also making it a fun environment to live in. They really encourage social interaction and a sense of community which was a key part of my recovery. They focus on substance abuse and especially the mental health aspect which is extremely important part of recovery that other treatment centers seem to lack. There is even a patient advocate named Alexis who’s job is to specifically to be there for the clients when they are having a bad day and nobody else is available to help. And I wanna give a special shoutout to my therapist Jackson! He was a major part of my recovery, I couldn’t imagine having a better therapist he does his job so well and always knew the right thing to say. Overall, now that I am out of Sylvia Brafman I have changed as a person for the better. For the first time in my life I’m genuinely happy with myself and they helped provide me a detailed exit plan which helped so much with my transition out of treatment.

Ignore their reply to Billy Bob Jackson below and see his edit to the comment, as their reply is seemingly dishonest, although I do not claim to know their motives. They can seemingly claim they don't know who Billy Bob is all they want, and say it's not their facility, but the address is the same, so with 100% certainty, it is the same facility. It seems they are intentionally being misleading, because Billy Bob Jackson seems like a pretty obvious fake name, but you can make that decision for yourself.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients typically choose inpatient rehab when they are in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that puts them at an increased risk of relapse. They reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on the program design. Intensive psychotherapy is often the primary treatment modality, but clients in inpatient care may also receive holistic treatment and recovery-focused life skills training.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs support recovery through emotional, psychological, and spiritual development to address the root causes of addiction. These programs are peer directed, with participants regularly attending 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round. Recovery is based on "working the steps" to understand the source of addiction, take accountability for one's life choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Age-specific, gender-separate, and other specialized programs are widely available.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Florida consists of individual therapy and group instruction. This structured program is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the development of skills for managing emotions and relationships.

Group therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for people in Florida who are struggling with drug addiction. There you can openly discuss the challenges and progress you're making without fear of judgment from your peers who experience many of the same things you are.

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills are the core skills you need for daily success. They can include self care, stress management, daily routines, and emotion control. Rehab treatment includes the development of these skills so you have the tools you need for long term recovery.

Recreational therapy helps you recover from addiction by giving you structured activities that promote your physical health and mental well being. These activities could range from sports and fitness to creative arts and provide a constructive outlet for your emotions and stress.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

I wish I’d paid more attention to the 1-star reviews & not just the 4.6 stars overall. My Experience at this Facility: Medication Management: Based on my experience at prior rehabs, I perceived challenges w/ medication management here. My gabapentin dosage was listed incorrectly in the system. Eventually, it was corrected, but if this was a controlled substance medication, this seemingly could have been a major issue. Safety & Anti-Semitism: As a Jewish patient, I felt uncomfortable w/ how, in my perception, anti-Semitic comments were handled. Another patient made a comment I found offensive. When I reported it, a staff member responded, “Isn’t that kind of true though?” I told the clinical director I didn't feel safe & was told my concerns would be addressed. Later, the same patient made a remark I perceived as threatening while getting directly in my face ("I'll whoop your ass"); to my knowledge, he was only given a warning. I was told it was my responsibility to avoid him, even though he often entered my space. At one point, I believe he accused me of saying a slur, which witnesses confirmed I didn't say. I felt these issues, especially when combined, were not taken as seriously as I would have hoped. Staff & Facility: In my opinion, staff were less professional than those at other centers I’ve attended. Group leaders often seemed unprepared, & I felt that staff sometimes treated patients more like inmates than clients. On my last day, the director of housing (to the best of my knowledge, that was her title) returned my bag by kicking it toward me, which left me feeling disrespected. Requests for passes were often ignored or required multiple follow-ups. There was a time when I was left w/ little food because a grocery trip didn't happen as planned. Another example that stood out to me was when I observed the director patting what appeared to be the bare thigh of a male patient & resting her head on his shoulder while discussing boundaries regarding touching between male & female patients. This seemed inconsistent w/ the guidance being given, as well as seeming inappropriate. Overall Impression: Overall, my experience was disappointing. I was essentially given the option to transfer or leave, & I believe this facility was not able to support patients w/ mild passive suicidal ideation, despite its branding as a mental health center. This belief is based on being told I required a higher level of care after disclosing passive suicidal thoughts. To be fair, I was told my hospital visit was in line w/ Florida's Baker Act, but I personally do not believe I should have been forced to transfer over that level of ideation. My hospital experience was distressing. I only had the directors’ numbers on a piece of paper, & neither answered when I first called after being cleared, so I didn’t know how I’d get home. Eventually, the director of housing answered & said a driver would arrive in about 15 minutes. After 20 minutes, I called again, feeling scared. She seemed irritated & said (I'm paraphrasing), “You already called me 15 minutes ago & I told you a driver is coming! He’ll be there in 10 minutes.” I asked for the driver’s number, but she didn't provide it, which left me feeling anxious. In my opinion, she didn't seem to know how to handle patients w/ mental health needs. In my view, the facility didn't adequately address anti-Semitism or threats of violence & was generally unprofessional. Note: This review reflects only my personal experience, perceptions, & opinions. I do not intend to make factual allegations about anyone’s intent, actions, or character. Others may have different experiences & perspectives. I encourage readers to seek multiple sources of information when evaluating this facility. My account is based solely on what I observed & recall, & I do not claim to know all circumstances or events. Edit: I believe they know who I am, & that their reply is dishonest, as I reported these unique events to staff and left only 2 days ago. I obviously used a pseudonym so people don't know I was in rehab.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Billy. You may be confusing us with another treatment center; we have never treated anyone with your name and we certainly don’t engage this way. Our owners are both Jewish. Many of the elements you talked about are not applicable to our center. I wish you the best of luck in finding the help you need.

Sylvia Brafman Review — 10/10, Would Heal Again Sylvia Brafman gave me everything I asked for that actually helped me grow. If it furthered my treatment and I asked, I got it — period. Real recognize real, and this place showed up for me in ways I didn’t even know I needed. Shoutout to Alex (Life Coach Supreme) Alex is that girl. Personable, supportive, and really saw me — not just as a client but as a whole human. She believed in me on days I didn’t believe in myself. She taught me so much about who I am and who I can become. I will never forget our sessions. Alexis the Patient Advocate Straight shooter, no fluff. Always gave recovery-based advice that actually helped, not just some vague Pinterest quote energy. She kept it real and that’s exactly what I needed. Facilitator Hall of Fame: Chris Listen. Choosing a favorite facilitator is like choosing a favorite snack when you’re high — damn near impossible. But Chris wins. He called me on my BS day one and never let up (respectfully). He pushed the whole group to go deeper, reflect harder, and stop playing small. I left every group with something to unpack — and that’s how it should be. Dr. Andy — The Insight King This man is a clinical Jedi. He helped me make connections in my mind that changed the way I see myself and my story. I owe a lot of growth to him — he’s the quiet storm of the team. Will G: LEGEND. I told him he’s like the grandpa I never had and he threatened to throw a chair (kidding, kind of). He made AA and recovery feel human and even fun. He drilled it in me that there are many ways to recover, but the point is: recover. Also, I now speak to myself with kindness because “I’m always listening.” That stuck. Will G is a national treasure. Protect him at all costs. Keara — Housing Director MVP Keara works HARD. Like, you blink and she’s handled five things already. Every reasonable ask I had — done. She always heard me out, never made me feel like a burden, and deserves her flowers. The Clinical Director (She’s Like That.) I’ve been to other treatment centers and never even saw the clinical director unless it was a crisis. Not here. She’s involved, helpful, consistent, and stands on what she says. I respect her a lot. Stephen — Best Therapist I’ve Ever Had Funny, sharp, and will hit you with the “hard questions” when you least expect it. His accountability is loving but firm, and his sense of humor made therapy feel safe. I’m gonna miss our sessions and his fire fits. Man stayed dripped out like healing was a red carpet event. Dr. Dolan & Farah — Sweethearts With Licenses They actually listen, explain things clearly, and make you feel like part of the process before they prescribe. Nothing was forced. Just good care, good people. The BHTs — The Heartbeat of This Place Ron, Jerry, Tyler, TREYYYY (yes, all caps), Ms. Keisha, John, Mark, Shelly, Nesha, the phenomenal Jackie — y’all really the MVPs. Always present, always supportive, always human. The kind of people who make hard days feel lighter. Also — Ya-Ya, I see you too! Brandi the Case Manager = Plug. Need help? Ask Brandi. She’s on it. No games. Final Thoughts Sylvia Brafman isn’t just a treatment center — it’s a place that feels. It feels safe. It feels real. Everyone knows each other’s names, and that kind of community matters. If you show up, go to groups, take notes, and do the work, you will grow. This place changed me. It saved my life. 10/10, highly recommend. Healing with flavor.

Great therapists and groups. It could be improved with a few extra therapies such as art, music, and recreation type groups. Alexis, Alex, Chris, and Dr. Andy are wonderful to work with. I would recommend this facility for patients suffering from complex trauma.

The Sylvia BrafmanTreatment Center is a top notch facility with excellent and caring therapists, administrators and staff. They are very flexible when it comes to an individual’s needs and their use of individual and group therapy, including nutrition and life coach counseling is amazing. They provide a wonderful combination of holistic care and I highly recommend this facility for anyone who is in need of such treatment.

After many years of suffering from substance abuse, a neighbor told me about the Sylvia Brafman center where she thought they could help my son. Nothing had worked before, but we wanted to give it a shot. The teams there gave us all hope that this place could finally help my son on the road to recovery. Everyone down to the techs was encouraging and compassionate. Emily, his therapist, gave him the push he needed to look into himself and realize that the person inside him was worth saving. She was perfect for him. Then there was Brandi, his case manager - our guiding angel, our incredibly patient and efficient mentor, our rock. I don’t think there was anything she couldn’t do! We would have been lost without her. She was kind and compassionate while being honest no matter how uncomfortable she might have felt. She told it like it was which we deeply appreciated. The Sylvia Brafman Center and all who are connected was our savior. They went above and beyond to provide all the tools he would need to continue working towards a fulfilling life whether it was financial, extending his time, or providing guidance on every level. We will be eternally grateful.
