Lolly Wool is dangerous and should not be a therapist, let alone a regional director of any kind. She abandons clients, refuses to listen to them, and does not support clients in any way shape or form. She crossed several boundaries with and made me feel physically unsafe. Formal complaints are being filed with the state and she is being reported to the licensing board.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Alsana only cares about money, not their patients. I spent 7 weeks here in IOP to start then PHP for most of it. I left worse than when I went in. When I arrived at Alsana I was taking diet pills regularly and Alsana didn’t care and let me continue to take the pills despite the fact that I was open and honest with my treatment team. Alsana kept pushing to have me stepped up to residential while others who were struggling just as much, if not more than me, we’re being stepped down. This tells me that they were trying to milk everything they could out of my insurance (one downside of having good insurance coverage). After 6 weeks in treatment my bank account was drained and forced me to have to return to work. I asked Alsana to step me down so I could continue with treatment while returning to work. Alsana refused. They would rather try to bully you into a higher level of care. Apparently it’s better to force a person to leave AMA as opposed to ensuring they can receive some treatment. They knew that I had exhausted all other available options. I agreed to stay a short while longer because they convinced me that they would give me extra support in preparation for leaving treatment (don’t forget I was being forced to leave AMA due to the fact they refused to step me down). I failed to receive the said extra support they promised. I literally left Alsana worse off than when I arrived. My first instinct is to tell those reading this to use extreme caution before placing yourself or a loved one in their care. However, keep in mind that this was my experience. There were others there, that appeared to respond and had positive things to say about the overall care they received. Treatment centers are not cookie cutter and what works for one may be traumatic for others. My time at Alsana did feel traumatic, but others did not have the same experience. Just something to keep in mind while reading reviews during your research.

My experience at Alsana Residential was absolutely amazing! The staff there genuinely cared about me and my recovery. They didn't just do their job they went above and beyond! I am so grateful to my care team there and the DC's that put in the extra effort. There was only one there that I felt cared more about their title than they did about genuinely helping and being a part of the community. I also met some of the best people. I will never forget you all. Thank you for being a safe place for me , for helping me to see that the apple fell far from the tree, and for showing me that I am human too and deserve the same rights as every other human on this planet! To Tracy, Jojo, Mae, Katrina, Jordan, and Karlie: I am a better person for knowing each of you and you have all touched my soul! I will never forget any of you and what you did for me! You each went out of your way to help me and are amazing people! Thank you for everything you have done! With Love, Ashley Alderson

My experience at Alsana Hawthorne house in St. Louis was traumatic and I left after 10days. The nurses got my medicine wrong the first 3 days. They wanted me to take a medication that would interact with another medicine I am taking and cause serious heart issues. They pushed me to take it despite my objections. Two clients ran away. Another two were sent to the psych ward. One of the clients was my roommate. When she returned, it was clear she had some mental issues that she really needed to be in a higher level of care that was not offered. She really needed to be hospitalized in the psych ward long term. We were locked in the dining room with no explanation one night. The majority of direct care staff were power tripping and unsupportive. The direct care staff was very fake as well and micro managed clients. The cookie cutter meal plan was an overwhelming amount of food and they did not really accommodate for my diagnosis of gastroparesis. They pushed you to eat past uncomfortably full and pushed me so hard, that I was getting sick and vomiting. They did not really monitor for refeeding syndrome. They only allow you to have visitors and family 2 hours a week outside on the grounds or in a cramped office/waiting room. Initially the admission staff told me that I’d receive day passes to see my family. That was not true. Also, the staff is extremely inconsistent in procedures and expectations. They make you sit in front of your food for20-45 minutes, which felt like a punishment. The therapist I had was gaslighting me. They wouldn’t let me go on an outing because I lost weight due to being pushed to eating too much to the point I threw up on several occasions. My therapist was very tough and broke me down that I questioned my feelings and I’m normally very confident. The therapy groups that direct staff were a complete waste of time. They read off a worksheet and most people slept through it. Please consider another treatment center instead of Alsana.

They’ve got another lawsuit coming. I was admitted in 2022 and assured they were different since they changed their name from castlewood and had a staff turnover. I was also assured the past trauma I had experienced as a client at castlewood would be handled appropriately given the high risk for retraumitization. It was clear none of the clinicians knew what they were doing related to my care. Table talk was not redirected. I witnessed a HIPAA violation and wxperineced multiple medication errors on a daily basis. I expressed my concerns multiple times to staff and they were not addressed appropriately. Staffing was so short that we had multiple medical issues and witnesses other clients have medical emergencies without proper care from staff. One client was given another clients medicine and was overdosed. A third client who was an EMT by profession is the only one who noticed this clients overdose symptoms and provided resuscitation. Alsana waited two yo three day to take that client to the hospital for care and then administratively discharged them because they weren’t able to attain medical stability following alsanas medication error. Another client fell and broke their collar bone to to staff negligence and then was accused of using drugs. When they returned from the hospital staff made the client move from a second floor to a first floor room without assistance and without an elevator. They also refused to allow one patient to have their service dog and put them on the second floor even though they have a heart condition causing sudden loss of consciousness and falls. The dog is the only way this person knows they are going to faint. Alsana placed this patient at huge risk making them admit to treatment without their service dog something that is documented as being allowed in their policies. Alsana also violated my patient rights to continue to see external providers. As a result my care was compromised in a number of ways. They failed to do regular staff checks and often went hours overnight without checking patients who were on obs. I was suicidal and they knew it and they did not do appropriate follow up. They often left bathrooms unlocked overnight. Clients could easily get away with any behaviors they wanted at this facility. They also violated their own covid protocols putting staff and clients at risk when we had multiple clients in isoltatuon with covid. They only had one person on their cleaning staff and there were piles of dirty linens in the halls and laundry room. Direct care staff were adequately trained in eati by disorders and often didn’t know clients meal plans or obs. they let clients stop eating and do nothing until insurance says they need to go inpatient or they have to be escalated to medical hospital. I left this facility so traumatized I won’t seek help again. This was my first experience in treatment after being in solid recovery for almost a decade and they did nothing but perpetuate a relapse that had only just started when I admitted and made my ptsd more severe than I’ve ever endured. Stay away from this place.

Before Alsana, my daughter was so deep in her eating disorder and co-occurring mental health issues that functioning without these things felt next to impossible. She seemed entrenched in this disorder, and I didn’t know how to get her out. Each time we took her Alsana, they’ve helped pull her out of some of the darkest points of her life so it seemed at the time. The staff and philosophy of Alsana guided me through the ups and downs of early recovery, never giving up when she would stumble. I felt like everyone I met truly cared for her and her recovery. Now, after Alsana, she is living a life of freedom from the grips of this life sucking eating disorder. SHe feels stronger, more capable of dealing with triggers, and more compassionate towards others in a similar spot than ever before. Thank you for giving me my daughter back.
