About Coleman Health Services

Coleman Health Services is a network of addiction and mental health treatment centers throughout Ohio including this location in Ravenna, Ohio. They have a lot of support services and community health and wellness services, but they also have a strong addiction treatment program here, too.

At this facility they have an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for drug and alcohol addiction. They’ll start with a comprehensive assessment to evaluate your addiction and to determine what types of services and treatments will be most helpful for you. They take a person centered approach, so it’s not just about coaching you for sobriety but it’s about fostering your overall wellness. The goal is to make changes so you don’t feel so drawn to drugs and alcohol. In addition, they offer medications to reduce your cravings for drugs and alcohol which can be helpful at any stage of recovery.

The bulk of the IOP is group counseling which you’ll have for nine hours per week. In group you’ll talk about many challenges that arise throughout recovery, and you’ll share support with others who are in recovery. Along with group therapy you’ll have individual addiction counseling and addiction education. They provide case management, too, to help you establish your independent and sober life and to connect you with other resources you may need.

The most unique aspect of this treatment center might be their employment services. Part of helping you establish a stable and healthy life in recovery is helping you secure a job with career prospects so you have consistency and financial stability.

So here's the thing about Coleman's establishment.... There was one doctor (psyche) who was good.... and guess what she left. But thank you to this doc who took me seriously because the next doc I had made me choose between blood pressure (prazosin) and anxiety pills the only other drug I am on is an anti-psychotic. The nurse who was "helping me" get my meds told me she would talk to the doctor for me and "see what she could do about letting me have that blood pressure pill I asked for-- she asked about my anxiety and I said it was pretty high. She said she wasn't sure if I could have an anxiety med with prazosin. I basically said "I'd like an anxiety med too but you made me bargain for prazosin so I doubt she'll let me get the anxiety pill." The nurse paused and said "I'll have the doctor check (good doctors notes) and we'll just *see* if we can get you that medication". They managed to prescribe me the prazosin and the anti-psychotic but not the anxiety pill and I am glad. I am on the lowest dose of both of these pills.Sadly there is much more of crap to tell you about Coleman's establishment and let me just say there's stuff I don't even remember because every single corner they could they impeded me.They tried to "help me get a job" and two months later I was in a crisis still without a job terrified asking them to help me they basically took so long I was partly in the crisis because I struggle getting jobs. :(Part of crisis too I frantically messaged my "case manager" to please come help me I needed some help with paper work and I am in a crisis I'm not sure if I will have my phone please come to my house I will need your aid. Two weeks later she called me asking if I got that paperwork done and when I said (basically) I was in a crisis-- you failed me.... and I am never ever coming back to Coleman she hung up quickly. Didn't have much to say, not really apology either. You see, I have been with Coleman for several years and have had to fight claw tooth and nail to get healthcare. Except for that nice doctor who quickly left. I have my last appt pretty soon-- I will update here if they don't manage to keep my appt. Because I PROMISE YOU THEY WILL DO THE SAME TO YOU. They are well known for being really freaking bad.

Accepted Insurance

Coleman Health Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The experience I had here was absolutely dreadful. For one this place is not flexible and the most availability they have is to be scheduled a month in advance. They promised me a chance to speak to a psychiatrist and they promised weekly sessions. It's been 3 months and I haven't met a therapist yet nor was I diagnosed like I was hoping. The therapist I have spoken to was extremely rude. He spoke through 90% of my first two sessions and often interrupted me and spoke over me as though I was a child. He suggested I get rid off a family pet I've had for 6+ years and even told me because I have a full time job I wouldn't need therapy. I asked to swap therapists after explaining why they let me speak through his supervisor. The supervisor was very rude and didnt let me continue explaining why I wanted to cut ties. She let me swap to another therapist a month later to speak to them. In that time frame I almost attempted to kill myself, quit my job, and cut ties with people close to me. I was exhausted from trying to keep myself together and was clinging to my next therapy appointment. I received a call from a very rude receptionist a few days before the appointment I was clinging to saying they made a mistake and overlapped my appointment with another one. When I went to reschedule the lady was extremely rude and never verified that the appointment was okay. She was silent on her line and was unresponsive until she decided to hang up. I ended up calling back twice mad about the entire ordeal to cancel my services. The second call resulted in a NASTY lady answering the phone. They ended up transferring my call around until they let me leave a voicemail. You cannot treat people like this in this line of work. My mental health has gotten worse since the beginning of the new year. All this has done is made me feel worse. I also would have callen sooner for help but they do not care if you have a job or not. In fact they treat you worse if you are working fulltime.

There are individual people at Coleman that try to make a difference. But there's honestly not enough of those genuine people to outweigh the ignorance in there office. They are Supposed to be for solving issues ,,instead they only create more for the family. The people that run there " EMERGENCY ACCESS OFFICE" in my opinion should have there own " diagnostic assessments" examined

After having a personal emergency I was referred by the local PD to Coleman. Everyone was friendly when I got there, and I did the initial assessment with a lovely gentleman whose name I forget. After that I went to get examined at UH, which took just over an hour. They learned I did not have insurance, and after that my care completely changed. When I got back I was told to wait in a small room and that they would be back with paperwork and brochures. No one returned. After waiting in a freezing room alone for about an hour I went to the lobby to warm up. After another hour or so, I had to buy two bags of chips out of the vending machine because I was so hungry and had been told I couldn’t leave. I asked if I could get an update on the process and was told they would find out, but I was not given an update. Everyone but two people left for the day, and they turned off half the lights on the waiting room while I was still sitting there alone. I asked for another update and I was told to be patient, that it was a process. So I waited while the two ladies in the back joked and laughed and ignored me. I still was alone in the waiting room. My aunt came after a long while and asked for an update, and we were once again told they would find out. No one came back. After SIX HOURS of waiting, I personally called the facility that I was waiting for a response from, was transferred to intake and was told “oh well we haven’t processed the request because we have no beds.” I walked into the office and updated THEM on the fact they didn’t have a place for me. I was told they had no knowledge of that, that they were never told. I believe they actually never checked. At this point I was not only a danger to myself, but hungry, tired and angry. I got my things ready to leave and was told I couldn’t and that they would call the police, then let me walk out the door. No one stopped me, no police ever came. This was after 6 hours of waiting, 4 of it by myself with suicidal thoughts. The staff made me feel horrible and dismissed, like I was a nuisance. I will never recommend this facility, nor will I ever willingly go back. This facility and it’s very indifferent treatment failed me miserably.

Don't try to get your complete medical history. You'll be leaving messages with no call back, or what they do send you is not complete. We've been trying for (literally) years to get our records from Dr. Pacer, a pediatric psychiatrist. Don't let your child be a guinea pig for medications, it could be tragic.
