About Community Behavioral Health

Community Behavioral Health is an organization that offers treatment for mental health and substance use disorder in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They’ve been providing these services to the community for over 25 years. The services that clients can receive are medically managed withdrawal services, residential care and outpatient treatment.

Constant Supervision from Doctors and Nurses

Undergoing withdrawal can be a critical time in a patient’s recovery from substance use disorder. With withdrawal management services, doctors and nurses will be constantly supervising to ensure your symptoms are managed and you avoid any serious complications. They can provide medications such as Suboxone, methadone and Vivitrol to minimize your discomfort.

A psychiatric team will be available to address emotional symptoms you may experience such as anxiety or depression. When you’ve completed the process, you’ll have the option to move forward with residential or outpatient treatment.

Multiple Outpatient Programs for Healing

Community Behavioral Health offers multiple outpatient programs including a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and traditional outpatient care. Each program varies in the number of hours and days that you’ll be at the facility receiving treatment. You’ll spend time in counseling learning about topics related to addiction recovery such as identifying your triggers and developing coping skills.

A Sober Lifestyle in Philadelphia

One aspect of your recovery will involve finding sober activities to enjoy in Philadelphia. Some of the top attractions in the city you might want to check out include the Liberty Bell and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You can also spend time walking or reading at Fairmount Park.

I'm disappointed at CBH for allowing Beacon Point to milk funding. They take in those they assume to be homeless and than wait 4-5 weeks before getting them recovery /sober living placement. They than put in for extensions that way they get more funding. Guys sit there, no rec, no visits, phones are used after 6 pm thereby blocking clients from taking care of any personal business. It's worst than prison....someone has to step up n make difference.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Reading these reviews about CBH, this place needs to be shut down. There are better options for mental health for people with Medicaid. This place sounds like they push narcotics on people and just use people during their vulnerable state.

Have had to file complaint after complaint with CBH about Thomas Jefferson NARP's horrible client treatment and abuse of medications and triggering and abusing clients. CBH has been very attentive and listened to all my complaints and grievances. Now I just wish they could make more impactful changes on the clinics who can pull some truly barbaric moves to punish clients. Kevin has did help me get into a new program after NARP pulled some unethical moves by discharging a client with a incredibly dangerous medication dosage and not set up at any other treatment program to continue their treatment. CBH definitely tries in a system that is hard to maneuver in.

They lie to you. They won't protect you from your clinic jumping you. They just push the problem under the rug and tell you to go f yourself. Not 1 person there cares about the clients. Not one person even tries to help the clients. They only listen to the head people of the clinic your at and listen to there lies and take there lies as the truth. Kevin Howard never calls you back or does any of the supervisors. When you have a complaint they won't call you to ask what happened and always blame the clients. This place should be shut down. And each person in the quality control department needs to be under review to see if they even do work or deserve there job. CBH only protects the clinics not the clients at all. It's all about money so there basically best friends making sure each other stays in business and money keeps flowing.

They force you to go to place like Holcomb Behavioral Health (where the director tried to bully me into not complaining about the the psychiatrist would write me prescriptions for drugs I heard in Rap songs and had no idea what they did ) or the pill mill Omni (where the doctor was literally writing prescriptions for Adderall in the waiting room

Imagine someone telling a person missing a leg that prosthetic makers are doing the right thing by refusing to take their money for a prosthetic due to the man being on medicaid. Thats what i was told about my condition when I asked about a similar bizarre problem i am encountering. The supervisor answered my question but injected her opinion twice, by saying it was for the best. As though that helps me. Imagine telling someone who needs treatment to sustain employment, that hes too poor so providers dont want to take his money when they find out and YOU think thats how it should be. How is he supposed to MAKE MONEY and financially better himself, if you keep that opportunity out of reach? That kind of interaction is a slap in the face on top of a health care system thats already a bad joke in a mediocre hellscape that wont care for you if you have unseen disabilities. its sad. CBH will provide for you if you are neurotypical, kiss any understanding of your medical issues goodbye if you arent.
