Our family had a horrible experience at Glenbrook with my elderly mother-in-law. Moreover, they discharged her home prematurely, failing to treat her pleural effusion, resulting in another unplanned readmission. Needless to say, she was readmitted on several occasions, and pushed out of the hospital each time despite being very weak and quite ill. The staff in the hospital is very callous and uncaring, and managed to threaten an elderly person, who by the way has full insurance coverage(standard Medicare and BCBS supplemental), with financial consequences, and having to pay for her hospital stay. The behavior caused severe undue emotional distress, and further deterioration of her condition. I am strongly considering reporting this institution to CMS and state professional review board.

Accepted Insurance

Endeavor Health Glenbrook Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy is provided by psychologists and licensed clinical social workers. Traditional reasons for seeking therapy/counseling, include, but are not limited to, treatment of depression, anxiety and/or other psychiatric disorders, the desire to change self-defeating patterns of behavior, gain self-knowledge and acceptance, or utilize support to problem-solve an individual's daily living issues.

inpatient iconInpatient

When participating in an inpatient rehab program, you'll reside at the treatment center for the duration of the program. Your housing and meals are provided, allowing you to focus on your recovery without outside triggers, stressors, and other distractions. You'll receive daily addiction counseling, drawing on various psychotherapeutic approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Many inpatient drug rehabs also offer complementary holistic therapies, such as yoga, meditation, or animal therapy, and creative arts therapy.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Evanston Hospital is a time-limited, structured psychotherapy program designed to meet the needs of patients who are in need of intensive skill building to better cope with mental illness. The program offers structured treatment when conventional outpatient therapy is not sufficient to stabilize an individual’s symptoms. The program helps participants transition through strengthening abilities to identify triggers, utilize coping skills, communicate effectively, and manage stress.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

As a flexible option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is tailored for those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can include daily therapeutic sessions and services such as relapse prevention and medication management. Based on your needs, PHP treatment duration can average 90 days and require a minimum of 20 hours of commitment weekly. While a partial hospitalization program typically requires a commute, telehealth may be available. PHP treatment costs can vary but are often covered by most insurance.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During couples therapy in Illinois, you may work on a variety of relationship challenges. Couples therapy can address topics such as finances, children, health, addiction, intimacy, external stressors, and family relationships. You'll develop tools to address these types of challenges in healthy ways.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. The Family Program includes private and multi-family sessions, to support family members throughout the treatment and recovery process.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Horrible ER staff. It was the worst I've ever experienced. They are rude and my arm was black and blue from several times poking for a vein and I get my blood drawn regularly...never an issue. They left the call button behind my bed so I couldn't get up to go to the bathroom I was connected to machines and I couldn't use the tv or adjust my bed for hours. I asked to be released because of how rude the staff was. Do not go here if you can help it.

On Monday after midnight my autistic son was brought there in a complete schizophrenic episode where he was brought to be stabilized and transferred to a mental health ward. The staff stood outside his room, made fun of him, and mocked him. They laughed at him and while going through his stuff attempted to access his phone. A verbal altercation was had over the mockery and violation of his property. He was choked and manhandled immediately by security and his shoulder completely injured with medical diagnosis to prove it. While on the floor and subdued the security guard pulled out his gun and held it to him. There was no threat of death and my son was completely unarmed. If they stabilized him immediately like they were supposed to instead of making a mockery of him this wouldn’t happen. This is normal protocol which was not done. He begged them repeatedly to let his mother speak to him but they would not let him speak to me. They take all forms of communication away when a patient enters the ward. Later a different security guard came in for his clothes. He picked up my son’s brand new hat and flicked it at him while keeping it in his fingers. He laughed at him and put it in his hands and walked away. When my son was being transferred he noticed his hat was not with his clothes. When he inquired no one believed him. He told them over and over the security guy has it. After insisting over and over that he took it they had the security man open his locker and my son’s hat was in it. HE STOLE MY SONS property. IT WAS IN HIS LOCKER. It was a brand new 25$ hat. I have called the security team more than once and not one person will send me to a supervisor. Not one person will direct me to management nor tell me who the head of security is. They said “he’s all over the place and we don’t know where to find him”. They claim there is no one to speak to in between this mysterious manager who is “all over the place”. They claim there’s no one in charge but this man that no one knows a number to nor a name. Every person in the security detail hangs up on me when I ask for this information. Every single one is evading giving any information on who to speak to. I’ve made four phone calls in 3 days and no one will give me any info to call. I have not asked for any info on the security thief. I have not asked his name or anything about him. I I have only asked to speak to the head of their team and they have banded together to avoid it. Every single one has feigned ignorance in who their supervisor is. My son has severe mental illness and has had to be transported before. He has never been violent with paramedics, police, nor hospital staff. The emergency transport crew informed them of this. He was being mocked and taken advantage of by all staff on duty. He was treated like a criminal. He has a medical diagnosis that the staff should be equipped to handle. The staff needs to treat the mentally ill like they do with anyone else. I have never experienced this in any ER he was taken to before. He has been in Northwest Community more than once and was treated with compassion every time. The worst nightmare of a mother of a son with severe mental illness came true at Glenbrook that night. All my fears of him being treated as sub human all came true that night. ANYONE could face this one day as a parent. Never in my life did I think my children would face this type of mental anguish with a life full of medication , psychiatry, and mockery. Medical professionals betrayed him. This has never happened before and again he has never been violent in any hospitalization. He’s not violent by nature and is in fact a docile person who cares about people. If you have a mental health emergency demand to stay with your family member. I have the best insurance. My insurance and my co-pay has been went towards violence and professionalism. They will not get away with this as there are laws to protect the infirm for a reason. They do not discriminate by class or race. Anyone with a mental health emergency is up for grabs.

We arrived at the ER last night around 8 pm. There were people there but it wasn’t slammed. We probably sat for 3 hours before they took quite a few people back then nothing. We sat for a total of 6 hours and my husband never got treated or seen by a physician, at this point in time, there were 4 patient left at the ER. One couple had been there almost 7 hours. When you ask the front desk if they have any information on the wait time, they get very snippy with you. My husband finally had the port for his IV removed and we left. The couple that was there longer than us were planning to do the same. A small boy and his father also walked out with us, Pretty bad when you feel sick enough to go to the ER and people are walking out untreated or evaluated because they are either understaffed or something else is going on. Pathetic.
