I went to Jamaica Center Hospital s emergency room, and the experience was awful. When I approached the front desk, there was a man with blonde hair who had a terrible attitude. He rudely asked, What s wrong? even though I had already explained the situation. He rolled his eyes and made it feel like we had to beg for help, despite being in distress. After that, we waited in the sitting area for two hours. Then, a staff member with a strong Guyanese accent yelled at me in front of everyone and told me, Only the patient can stay in the room. You cannot be in here!!!, in the most unprofessional manner. She practically kicked me out in front of everyone, which left me feeling humiliated. The front desk staff had initially told us both to go back, so I didn t even know I wasn t supposed to be there. On top of that, there wasn t a proper waiting area outside the hospital, so I was left standing outside, feeling stupid.Honestly, the staff s attitude was completely unprofessional. They lacked empathy, which is essential for working in the medical field. It s frustrating to think that people like this are in positions where they re supposed to be helping others. If they don t want to provide care, why even choose this line of work? It just doesn t make sense!

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

My mother was in the ER. She was in sooooo much pain. They told her she was overreacting and told her to shush when she cried out in pain. The nurses were rude and mean. My mom came home sobbing, her pain worse than before she was admitted into the hospital.

This hospital is horrible. I can’t even begin to explain. At first I got Here and the doctor was really nice and kind and listen to me at first and then as soon Shift change came the new doctor didn’t have any clue about my situation or what was going on with Me decided to try to discharge me after one unit of blood after blood transfusion without even checking my levels. At 12:30 am. I had to ask them to check my blood levels. He then decided to give me another unit. Mind you I have not gotten any fluids when I was clearly dehydrated. Now I’m trying to get out of here even though nothing has changed with my condition . I don’t feel safe here.

IF I COULD GIVE THIS HOSPITAL ZERO STARS I WOULD!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE HOURS IN PAIN WITH NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY HANDLING PAIN MANAGEMENT OR EVEN ANSWERING THE PHONES FOR IMMEDIATE FAMILY TRYING TO SPEAK WITH A DOCTOR OR CHARGE NURSE. MY 87 YEAR OLD MOTHER HAS CALLED ME SEVERAL TIMES WHILE SHE WAS IN THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT FOR OVER 8 HOURS AND COMPLAINING ABOUT PAIN. SHE HAS A FRACTURED HIP AND IS SCEDULED FOR SURGERY AND WAS ONLY ADMINISTERED PAIN MEDICATION ONCE WITHIN THOSE 8 HOURS. I'VE TRIED CALLING THE HOSPITAL FOR ALMOST AN HOUR AND HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL WITH SPEAKING TO ANYONE WHO CAN ASSIST WITH CONNECTING ME WITH A CHARGE NURSE OR DOCTOR TO INQUIRE AS TO WHY PAIN MANAGEMENT HASN'T BEEN PRIORITIZED IN THIS SITUATION. THIS HOSPITAL ONCE AGAIN SHOULD GET ZERO STARS AND BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!

At Jamaica hospital 3rd floor, surgical unit. Paldan he was very respectful and very polite. He was good with his communication skills and helped me along the way. He helped me with medicine and he listened to all my requests. Whenever I used to ring the bell he would come running. May God bless him. Disgusting... Want to know how diseases spread?? Go there if you want no nursing care or Doctors around. Then when they actually have to do something. Wowwww attitudes. There was one nurse working her butt off while the aids I guess were laughing and no use. .

Went in straight off my flight into JFK due to serious abdominal and lower back pain. Arrived at the hospital at 6pm. Was not discharged until 6am. In that time, I was seen by a doctor at 7pm & 4am. The nurses spoke negatively about one another and often either ignored or dismissed patient questions & needs. At one point, a nurse admonished another nurse and they almost physical fought right in front of me. I had significant pain which caused me to openly writhe and shout in agony. While a couple of nurses asked if I was okay, they often stated there wasn’t much else they could do and often passed the buck to the absent doctors, or stated they’d be there “soon.” The nurses presented as callous & overworked. Additionally, my medication for my condition was sent to the wrong pharmacy despite the hospital confirming twice where it was going. This delayed my access to the medication I need and I was asked by the pharmacy to call the hospital to have it corrected due to the genre of the drugs. At this time I still don’t have the medication. I didn’t have a choice on where I went because my pain was so significant at the airport; however, I would not return here ever again.

Terrible hospital. No matter if you’re on the floor dying in the ER, nurses take their sweet time with every patient doing anything in between but take the person who’s about to die on their floor.
