About Mariner Health – Closed

Mariner Health provided dual diagnosis outpatient treatment to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. They had a center in Laurel, Maryland. They accepted self-payment and most commercial insurance and provided verification and assistance with benefits upon admission. The staff expressed a commitment to personalized care and holistic recovery. The facility offered a calm, professional atmosphere that was conducive to healing and growth. However, the center has since closed.

Holistic Treatment and Aftercare Planning

Their holistic care was coordinated between medical and psychiatric professionals and used evidence-based treatments such as behavioral therapies and motivational interviewing. I like that they placed an emphasis on helping clients rebuild confidence, relationships, and life skills. Aftercare planning was a key component of discharge that connected clients with resources for ongoing community support.

LGBTQ+ Inclusive

Services were designed for adults. Members of the LGBTQ+ community were welcome here, and they prided themselves on creating an inclusive and nonjudgemental environment.

Compassionate and Knowledgeable Staff

I found positive reviews of the facility, with former clients praising the compassionate and knowledgeable clinical staff. They described treatment as structured, supportive, and individualized. Many highlight the strong teamwork and welcoming atmosphere.

Relaxation and Recreation in Laurel

Laurel is home to a number of outdoor spaces that may supplement your outpatient therapy. The National Wildlife Visitor Center spans more than 13000 acres of forest, wetlands, and meadows. The North Tract offers 20 miles of trails that are perfect for walking, biking, and horseback riding. Granville Gude Park sits on the scenic shore of Laurel Lake, featuring a multiuse trail and a variety of community events for local engagement. Dinosaur Park is a family friendly working paleontological dig site, providing the opportunity for children to hunt for their own fossils.

Staff was helpful and showed interest in the residence there. Even tho the nurse was bringing me two chairs, I'm 70, my mom is 88 and my daughter is 50, she forgot until we were leaving and did apologize. We got chairs from someone else. But otherwise my brother is doing a lot better.

Everyone is so sweet. The rooms are clean. I love that. Dad has a mattress that keeps them from getting bed sores. He loved his lunch. It looked really yummy. Barbecue pork with baked beans and green beans oh my gosh, it was amazing

The HR Ms Jamila greeted me warmly and made me feel at ease. She asked about my experience and why I want to join their company. I was able to talk about my achievements, and she responded positively. She also shared more about the company culture, walked with me to tour around the facility and answered my questions about growth opportunities.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Once a person has become addicted to a substance, drug rehab in Maryland is often necessary to overcome that addiction. These programs provide the tools individuals need to manage the physical, mental, and emotional issues involved and begin a successful recovery journey.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience with Autumn Lake at Patuxent River as an agency worker, which I booked through an app for August 7. The moment I arrived, I was informed by the unit manager for the Lighthouse unit that there was nowhere to place me because everyone had shown up for work, leading to me being sent home without any work for the day. Being an agency worker, I understand the nature of these bookings, but the complete disregard for my time and effort was extremely frustrating. To add insult to injury, I was supposed to be compensated for at least two hours for the inconvenience, which is a minimal consolation given that it prevented me from working entirely that day. Anyone in the healthcare field knows how vital it is to start shifts on time, especially at 7 AM, and that kind of disruption is unacceptable. Despite reaching out to the agency for my compensation, I was shocked to hear that the facility lied about the reason I was sent home, claiming it was due to inappropriate attire. This accusation is not only false but deeply offensive. Just the previous day, on August 6, I worked at the same location and received compliments from the nursing staff, including being called the best worker on the floor. My professionalism is something I pride myself on, always wearing top-quality scrubs, making this excuse even more absurd. It's disheartening that they would rather damage my reputation than address their scheduling issues and pay the two-hour compensation I rightfully deserve. This experience serves as a cautionary tale for other agency workers—be wary when accepting shifts at this facility, as their lack of organization and integrity may leave you without work or compensation.
