I have been going here for all my health care needs for 10 or 12 years now and have had nothing but good experiences. I would recommend it to anyone. I had to go to the ER last Saturday night with a nasty blood blister on my great toe at 2 AM. They saw me right away, did the x-rays, scans and so on. The Podiatrist saw me first thing in the morning, got all bandaged up, and I drove myself home. The whole staff was terrific. Very pleased with all of it.

I went to the Emergency Room with a knee which had been keeping me awake at night for about a week. I spoke with the Dr. (Terry) I believe and I pretty much tied her hands because I wanted no drugs. She then went out of her way to get me an appointment with Ortho but before she released me, she explained a few things concerning the meds she wanted me to take......I trusted her as she asked me and before I could complete my 30 minute drive home......I had pain relief that had me excited about getting home and going to sleep......without my knee hurting so badly that sleep avoided me. I just want to send out a Big Thank you to VA hospital on Irving St. you all took great care of me and I'm grateful......Thank you so much Dr. Terry 🌹

The Washington Hospital Center is full of the most caring and empathetic personnel I have ever encountered in a hospital. From top to bottom, it’s a warm, friendly atmosphere at a time when you need it the most. It’s not a cold unfriendly atmosphere, but one where if you look lost you will be rescued by people who know you need help and will do so in the most caring manner. I have seen this consistently when I have been an outpatient there.

As a photographer being at loose ends awaiting a Peace Corps assignment in Africa, Ron asked me to set up a photo program, and build a darkroom to encourage people in the RAP program to develop those skills to help take their minds off heroin. In the process I witnessed some pretty harrowing cold turkey withdrawal by young folks on a couch just outside the darkroom. Unforgettable. If I remember, RAP was then located up behind the Hilton in Adams Morgan.

After two years of some discomfort with a broken wisdom tooth, I finally decided it was time to get it removed. My visit with Dr. Buck was exceptional from beginning to end. The front desk representative Delia greeting me with a smile giving assurance my visit will be delightful. The dental assistant Ricki got me settled, seated and prepared for my extraction. Ricki was comforting she kept me smiling and laughing while I waited for the anesthesia to kick in. My procedure took about 40 minutes. I’m delighted to say I felt no pain during the procedure, other than the injection of the anesthesia I didn’t feel any puncturing on my gums, this to say the tooth was taken in three pieces. There was no soreness afterwards, there no need for the pain medication provided or to take a day off. Dr. Buck did wonders! He is absolutely of the best dentist here at Whitman-Walker and to be honest in the DMV! If you have to in his waitlist I believe it’s worth it.

I have been at Good Hope Institute for almost 6 years, and in my opinion it's no better and no worse than any other methadone maintenance program. I've been on methadone maintenance for over 30 years and have been at many different facilities, so I believe I know a good one from a bad one. At GHI, you get from it what you put into it. If you want to get clean and stay clean you can; if you want maintenance you can do that, or you can detox. No one is getting rich from keeping someone on the program who doesn't want to be there. One thing you cannot do there is drift along continuing to get high and drinking methadone, and you cannot come in with a sense of entitlement or a nasty attitude and expect people to jump over hoops to do what you want. With all the addicts they're dealing with, and the turnover lately in staff yes, things can sometimes move a little slower than we'd like, but no where on earth are you going to get all your desires instantly! Sometimes you have to be patient, and this program is no different. GHI is not a bad clinic. Sometimes staff there have not been as caring as they could have been, and there have been those who had downright nasty attitudes. They're individual people though, they do not represent the whole clinic. If you want to get off opiates and you're not afraid to work to stay clean you can do it at Good Hope Institute. UPDATE: As of this year, 2019, Good Hope Institute no longer exists as such. They are a completely different clinic, run by completely different management and under a new system. Any of the posts from before, they're talking about a completely different clinic. And I still say if a person is willing to put the work in, they can get and remain clean just as well here as anywhere else.

This is the most advanced outpatient addiction treatment program I have seen in the Washington, DC/Virginia are. They are truly passionate about ending the addiction epidemic in this country. They use the latest technologies to treat alcohol and drug addiction, they use the latest therapies and it's a one stop shop (detox, therapy, support through the entire process)- you don't need to see any other doctors! This program will not interrupt your daily life so you can work while on the program. They make detoxing easy, they are also extremely discreet since the stigma/judgement around addiction is still so prevalent no one will know you are on the program! They not only treat drug addiction but also offer mental health services. If you have relapsed or are not considering treatment because of the horrible feelings that come from withdrawals I encourage you to try this program, it will change your life. The best detox treatment center in Washington, DC!

Our conversation started with me finding out what Ayurvedic Health Therapy is. After seeing how committed Lise Stevens was to learning this practice and her desire to improve the health condition of not only herself but of friends and family I asked for an official consultation. As we talked about my eating, work and relaxing habits she began to recognize the pattern and recommended some small eating and relaxing changes I could make to improve my life and health. After consulting with her and following some of the recommended smaller things like cutting back sugary snacks drinking more water and walking as well as relaxing in a way to benefits my mind, body and spirit I began to feel better about my view on health. I've felt this helped my personal growth and focus to mover forward with a new house and new car, also giving me a clear mind to process and deal with the changes. Thanks Lise your guidance has enriched my health and spirit and I appreciate it so much.

I share some of the sentiments of the other reviewers, primarily that it can be difficult to contact the offices on days when they’re busy. That said, I can always get ahold of Dr. Guzman via email by the end of the day, if not within an hour or so. The staff is friendly, and this is the best experience I’ve had with a doctor from a patient perspective. I’ll deal with the contact issues for that reason.

I had a whipple procedure done in April 2024. Dr. Lin and his colleagues and staff were great. Since the surgery, i have been back to the hospital many times, to see Dr. Lin, Dr. Scher, Dr. Todd, and many other health care providers, nurses, and staff. I have been very pleased eith the level of care i received.

WHC is HUGE and it is confusing to find one's way around to the right building for the right test or consultation. That said, everyone's is super helpful and the Medstar specialist physicians are amazingly clever and knowledgeable. They take a patient's issue very seriously, and show clear determination to get a diagnosis and treatment. Very impressed.
