There are some odd rules they are strict on and if you are a woman who loves diet coke like myself stay away because women are not allowed anywhere near the diet coke machines (men however have at it!) Since I left I’m still involved with the stuff they do in after care and alumni activities which are great ways to stay connected to a lot of people who truly are still putting in the work to stay sober and a lot of us have become close friends and hang out a few times a week. It’s not uptight like a lot of places which is very helpful in early recovery, the music aspect is great even if you don’t play any instruments, and the housing setup is great as well. The rules are pretty simple. No vaping inside (at the center) and you can’t have your phone during group lol pretty reasonable. Otherwise there’s still a sense of normalcy. Highly recommend to anyone who’s ready to make that 1st big step! I was a bit apprehensive at first and couldn’t be more grateful that I did it. I haven’t felt this good in 20 years! From the moment they picked me up until the moment they drove me home, the staff was nothing but supportive and encouraging. The clients were friendly and became my family - we all lifted each other up and kept each other on track. The Maryland location was clean and they were accommodating to any requests I had. George W. thank for your help while I was at the facility getting all my paper work done. Dwayne and Abby you guys are the best. Super nice and caring. The nurses were all awesome except Rene. She would not give me all my medications and the same time and I was within parameters of my B/P I explained to her all the nurses gave them to me together. I asked for policy or orders from NP that they could not be given together and only comment she could make was a good nurse would not give them together. She does not need to work with mental health patients because she is going to make some one flip out on day. Helma the NP that works on the weekends is rude I was having a asthma exacerbation using my rescue inhaler 4-5 times in 24 hours struggling to take a full deep breath and she told me it was my fault I got this bad because I didn't remember to tell the nurse I use long acting inhaler and refused to order me prednisone. I had to beg her to order steroids. She is another person not fit to deal with mental health patients. Lastly the cafeteria lady with faded blonde hair cut . She was rude loud and would use a cow bell to get our attention to come inside and eat by 5:10 PM and dinner was not over until 6 PM. She would pack plates for the housekeeping staff and all her friends before the patients would all get to eat. Don't let it be a night when we have something half way deceit she would have ten containers if not more piled high by 5:15 PM. Oh and we were not allowed to use the sink in the dining hall to wash our hands. She would tell us we had to wash them in the bathroom. She was terrible. There was quite a wait for emergency services but each department communicated with each other and was so polite. Brian Stewart is one of the few names that we caught but he was phenomenal. The staff checked on us, fed us, and gave us blankets. We saw them touching base with some individuals who were clearly in crisis and they were just so patient and caring. Dr. Smith was our emergency services doc and I wish he could see people regularly because he was funny and he made my program participant feel heard. They do not offer detox specifically but if you're doing a detox, they are able to support with their varied staff of psychiatrists, PRN, nurses, and psychologists as well as peer support specialists. I wouldn't have made it to today as psychologically intact as I am without them! My issues were: they cannot always accommodate a vegetarian or vegan diet & the nightly bed checks require some disturbance if you're a light sleeper. But when he went to the IAFF COE, it was like a switch was turned on. It took a while for the treatment to really take effect or to see any results. But he made it through. I can't begin to express the gratefulness the family has. I wish I would have found a way for him to get there sooner and start his treatment. I was following the center since the beginning. But things happen a reason. When the day came that he was ready to feel alive again, you all helped him find his life again. I was amazed to find out the clinic was owned by the same company I had just left, (bc of a move) and in the process of changing over. I can imagine that the transition could be extremely stressful. My experience was the transition has been a fairly seamless one. I think the new company is doing great and everyone has worked together to make a great MAT facility. This clinic has only improved since I've been here. Although it's a very small clinic there is never a wait, I am in and out quickly. My counselor is wondeful and does not have the "treatment burnout," that often happens in MAT settings. All of the counselors are extremely helpful. If you follow the simple rules, this clinic will work for you. I must mention before closing that the front desk ladies are the best!!
