I have been to this hospital several times for random reasons, but I have always been seen within 30 minutes of checking in. I can't say that about hospitals like Duke Emegency in Durham NC. The nurses and staff are attentive to your needs and organized. I have only had positive experiences at this hospital.

Was trying to find some quiet to pray/meditate in the chapel while my family member was being cared for & it turns out staff use it as a break room to talk & watch videos. Terribly disrespectful. At least put in earbuds or talk quietly so it doesn t disturb people using this space for what it is supposed to be used for.

Accepted Insurance

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs offer community-based addiction treatment, enabling clients to remain in their homes while in recovery. Their levels of care typically include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), standard outpatient, and sober living programming. Most outpatient facilities offer addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Integrative programs include evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation, music therapy, and massage. Facilities specializing in alcohol and/or opioid addiction may also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to the mental health treatment. Their inpatient treatment provides a safe environment for residents to recover. The staff include psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, counselors, and case managers. Additionally, ECT is provided on a case by case basis.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers a structured environment for intensive treatment of behavioral and substance use disorders. PHP treatment can consist of sessions ranging from 6-8 hours per day for an average of 90 days. You can often expect to engage in behavioral therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and receive medication. PHP treatment is often covered either fully or partially by insurance providers.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Known as the first step of the addiction recovery process, medical detox is the removal of addictive drugs and alcohol from your body and helping manage physical withdrawal. Medically assisted detox takes place in an inpatient setting where you will be closely monitored by a team of medical professionals to ensure your maximum health and safety. Medications like Suboxone or Vivitrol may be administered if needed to alleviate any potential withdrawal symptoms. This process is typically at least partially covered by most insurance plans.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy teaches you what to eat and not eat, how to grocery shop, how to cook easy nutritious meals, and how to use food as medicine to address your health issues. These skills will help speed up your recovery process and reduce the risk of relapse.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Sara Harland, I appreciate your perspective on Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital. It’s important to recognize that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and experiences regarding healthcare. It's not uncommon for medical professionals to approach patient care with varying degrees of empathy and understanding, which can lead to differing experiences, especially when patients feel marginalized or misunderstood. Each individual's background and circumstances can shape their interactions within the healthcare system, influencing how they are treated and perceived.

Just left because I have a blood clot in my right arm I needed a follow up on for the constant pain I'm in. I told her exactly where to find it and she wouldn't listen to me. Took pictures of everywhere else except for where the clot is and told me the pain must be from something else as if she was the doctor. Really defeating someone can treat a patient like this. Now I'll have to get a second opinion nd get a whole new order somewhere else where they take patients into consideration. Super sad seemed like such a nice hospital too shame they don't listen to the patients when it comes to common sense.

My partner got sent there for severe pneumonia from FFX HOSPITAL. When I went the first day the nurse was nasty mean and used unsanitary small container and a syringe that flushes out IVs and catheter etc. She peed on herself cuz her catheter was clogged and still in her. It should have been changed immediately. There was poop hardened up in the portable potty. The hospital is a100% dirty and unsanitary. She now has MRSA back in her blood when she just got rid of it at FFX HOSPITAL VERY DISAPPOINTED. I want her out of there asap

I've waited in the emergency room with my mom for more than 2 hours to have xray. This is the slowest hospital I do not recommend unless it's life or death.

My name is Tarsha Morgan! I had an appointment Monday April 28th at 11:00 a.m. I had to get a CT done. My experience here was so amazing and great. Bryan G, Maria RN, Chayo CT, Layda CT , these people all took care of me. I want to thank them all for being so kind and patient with me. They deserve to be recognized, because they treat you like a person should be treated and again I want to say thank you to you all.May God continue to bless you all!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely the worse hospital I’ve ever been too the staff very careless from the nurses to the staff that’s working there I never experienced such a bad experience from a hospital until I came to this hospital. I was laying in the bed for hours and no nurse coming throught to help me out I been calling for help back to back no one came to check on me. Very disappointed and do not recommend for no one that’s sick to come to this hospital. I will definitely call the HR department and give my whole statement out about my experience.

Place sucks. Employees are looked up and down by rude employers. Honestly, the current CNO participates in enabling passive racism there. Save yourself the time and shame of participating in this type of behavior and shop around for a more upstanding faculty. May God the Trinity Bless You. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Called the front desk and the person manning it could barely speak English. Not good for a hospital in an English-speaking country.

⸻ My Experience at Mount Vernon Hospital I had one of the worst experiences at Mount Vernon Hospital, especially in the emergency room. The doctors were extremely rude and unprofessional, showing very poor bedside manners. The nurses also had a terrible attitude, particularly toward elderly patients—they simply did not seem to care. The case manager was even more rude, which left me shocked. I couldn’t believe this is the level of service in our health system. Patients are not asking for favors—they are paying for care and deserve to be treated with professionalism and respect. This broken system needs to be fixed. Everyone deserves quality care, no matter their age or background.

I rarely, if ever, write reviews. I had seen some negative reviews of Mount Vernon Hospital, but it is 10 minutes from my home and my husband and I have had several instances of needing hospital services. I have had radiology services there….all efficient more than satisfactory. My husband had a heart attack in May of 2024 and attended outpatient cardiac rehab at Mount Vernon. He was well taken care of. Recently, my husband had a stroke. He had immediate care at Inova Fairfax Hospital, but spent 10 days in Mount Vernon for inpatient rehab. All of the medical personnel, from doctors, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, techs, and even food service employees were exceptional and caring. It is an older hospital and is not as glitzy and bustling as Fairfax, but the care my husband received will be instrumental in his continuing recovery. My only suggestion is that a renovation of the main entrance to the hospital is sorely needed. Honestly, I think this somewhat silly observation would make a difference to some of those patrons who have negative impressions of this facility.
