Dr Anthony Anker was very dismissive and disrespectful. I drove an hour away to take my mom for a broken shoulder because this hospital was recommended . When I explained what happened all he said was “okay okay okay?” and then proceeded to say that nobody comes into hospital for this in such a condescending manner.

Took my husband to the er after getting a head injury from sports that included him blacking out and they had us waiting in the waiting room for a little over 2 hours. The person at the deck told me it depends on the symptoms of who gets called back first. I didn’t realize a head injury wasn’t a top priority and we never got scene and ended up going somewhere else where they saw him immediately.

Accepted Insurance

Mary Washington Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs offer community-based addiction treatment, enabling clients to remain in their homes while in recovery. Their levels of care typically include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), standard outpatient, and sober living programming. Most outpatient facilities offer addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Integrative programs include evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation, music therapy, and massage. Facilities specializing in alcohol and/or opioid addiction may also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy helps you understand and manage the emotional and physical responses that often follow witnessing or experiencing traumatic events. Using therapeutic interventions, your therapist works with you to reframe that experience, which in turn reduces your anxiety and helps you regain control over your life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Nursing staff for the most part was okay they were cheerful and informative and showed compassion while treating my 96 year old mother. I must say that I was highly impressed by security. I was treated with the utmost respect by this one guard who said his name was Austin I think his badge said something else nevertheless from the time of him giving me my visitation badge to later stopping by our room as he walked by asking if I needed anything further he offered me and my mother blankets asked if he could get me something to drink provided me with some laughter made me feel at ease. Thank you Mary Washington for having people like him and the wonderful nursing staff employed.

Response from the owner
Thank you for your thoughtful review. We're glad to hear our nursing staff showed compassion and care, and we’re especially pleased that our security team made such a positive impression. We'll be sure to share your kind words with the team—especially Austin. Your feedback means a lot!

Dr Benjamin Mann blatantly lying in my chart about things he or someone else saw and did with me, stating, "Pt has a mobility limitation that significantly impairs ability to participate in one or more mobility-related activities of daily living (MRADL) in the home, is able to safely use the walker; and the functional mobility deficit can be sufficiently resolved with use of a walker." I never was given the opportunity to walk with a walker and a walker doesn't fix POTS nor can I use one because of my right hand. I only touched a walker for 10 seconds while standing before PT/ OT left me in a chair and the walker folded up. Dr Mann was not in room at the time PT/ OT had me stand with walker nor did pt/ or say it was safe for me to use one. Drs have little to no compassion and do not care about their patients. They care more about policy than the health of their patients. 7/10/25- heard a nurse/ ER case manager Patrice and 2N cna Silvia making fun of what could be serious situation for me as a patient all the way down the hall during my stay in 2N. Heard everything they said from my room and the laughing to go with it.Patrice tried denying it happened until I repeated their entire conversation to her then she looked like a deer in headlights saying, "oh you heard..." Very unprofessional!!!! The entire unit likely heard this conversation, as my room was farthest from them. I was absolutely humiliated and was in tears. I don't think I can trust the staff at Mary Washington healthcare anymore. I was ready to leave AMA but my night nurse Esther convinced me to stay and apologized for her coworkers rude and immature behavior. According to Dr Afzali Hospital policy matters more than patient care & safety, he refused to listen to my nurse Ashleigh. She expressed her concerns to him many times. He told me I could appeal my discharge ( he is wrong, only Medicare patients can appeal discharge.) but I would just take up a bed in the hospital, and would receive no further treatment. Medically gaslighted me by discounting my valid concerns of not being safe home alone, (a lot of falls and positive orthostatic vitals, even a fall in the hospital that morning) by putting counseling and therapy services in my discharge papers... Horrible Dr. Said my not having help at home was a "social problem not a hospital problem". So is he discharging dementia patients home alone too because not having a caregiver at home is a "social problem"? Mary Washington is the worst hospital...
