About Northside Hospital Behavioral Health Services

Northside Hospital Behavioral Health Services can help you if you’re dealing with drug or alcohol addiction in Atlanta, Georgia. They help through an outpatient setting that uses evidenced based practices. You’ll be able to go to treatment and go home at the end of the night. While you’re at the hospital you’ll work with specialists who have you go through different therapies that will help your mind and body.

These therapies are made to help people who have dealt with abuse, mental health disorders and other issues. What’s nice about going to treatment in a hospital setting is that they are aware of other health issues. Aside from that, you’ll learn proper coping skills and attend training groups. Going through training with someone else who is going through the trenches can make treatment so much easier. They’ll also monitor your progress while you attend treatment.

While this place offers the advantage of having more than just behavioral services, they’ve built a reputation for over medicating their patients.

This is a really awful place, and the people you meet with there will leave you feeling much more worse than you did before you came in there. They're not very personable people, and you can tell that they've had trouble before because there's a police officer standing by to have you arrested if you don't comply with them or you happen to say the wrong thing to them. Once again here's another place that just doesn't care about you and your general well-being. they only care about one thing and that is their money and their jobs. Stay far far away from this place and I hope and wish you good luck in finding the care that you really need. But you definitely won't find it here. If I didn't make myself clear before they are highly impersonable people and will kick you out the door without even treating you, or explaining to you the reason why they won't treat you.

Accepted Insurance

Northside Hospital Behavioral Health Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Designed for individuals who don't require round-the-clock care, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a form of outpatient care with a higher level of support. PHP treatment can be an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down option. With daily sessions lasting 6 to 8 hours, up to 5 days a week, a partial hospitalization program may offer medication management, relapse prevention techniques, and behavioral therapy interventions. PHP treatment can be fully or partially covered by insurance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Really organized place, where they work as a team to help us patients get better. After two years of insurance battles I was able to find this gem in the middle of the desert.

If I could give a half of a star I would. I would not recommend. My mother was billed $600.00 for a virtual visit that consisted of her talking to someone. Not sure if it was a social worker or a nurse. They did absolutely NOTHING! But tell me that they would refer her to a gerontologist therapist. They sent a list of doctors and it was up to me to schedule an appointment. I am disputing those charges as we speak. Thankfully I found a place by my own calling around to help get her in for an appointment. This place is BS! I have heard good things about NorthSide. We even have a primary care MD who is a NorthSide physician and when I told her about it she was displeased. DO NOT go there. You have a better chance at finding somewhere else to seek treatment

I will never return to seek services from this department ever again. I was given my very first assessment in January via Zoom by an unempathetic Mental Health Clinician named Lindsay Ausburn. Her assessment of me felt more like an indictment or just plain criticism. To top it off I never heard from her anymore yet the department claimed to have called for a follow up but couldn't reach me so they closed my file. After months of waiting I reached back out for them to tell me that I would have to redo the assessment at which they'd initially charged my insurance $618! I don't recommend this place at all. It seems like nothing more than a money grab to me. Plus when you initially decide to seek out Mental Health Services you want someone who is warm and understanding not someone who is cold or cut and dry. AVOID THIS PLACE if you are looking for a real therapeutic environment that cares!

I have been a patient for almost 4 years. My doctors are Dr Hall and Dr Anderson and have both been great. They have helped me through my terminal cancer diagnosis, my fathers death to cancer and my moms dementia. I've had a lot on my plate and these woman became the friends I needed that I could share all my secrets with. There have been many ups and downs and I've left every appointment feeling cleansed. All of my appoints have been remote from the comfort of my home. They have always been on time and have only had one cancelation. I have never had my meds increased without a lot of thought and conversation about how I'm coping. I really appreciate both of these ladies for helping me through the hardest time of my life.

It has taken me nearly a year to be able to say what these people did to me. I was so severely over medicated by a “doctor” at NSBH that I ended up on a ventilator in the ICU for seven days, and was in early stage kidney and respiratory failure. The PTSD that I have to deal with now is costing me so much more…not only financially, but emotionally. Dr. Anderson kept increasing dosages, adding new medications, no bloodwork at all, and there was NO oversight. I had NO point of contact to question. I am very lucky to be alive. No one EVER, should be placed on four SSRI meds plus a sleeping pill.

I would not recommend this for anyone who is really in need of help. After having a baby and dealing with extreme depression and anxiety, I reached out to NS Behavioral Health for help. After my intake session, I was directed to find an inpatient facility to go to and then call them back after I found a place and had an inpatient stay. Well in a severe mental breakdown it is hard to organize, think and plan especially in my situation with multiple kids at home and a job that solely provides for my family. But I did as I was ask. It took me about two weeks to situate my children, job and family in order for me to go to an inpatient facility. During this time I clearly communicated with my intake counselor, she never reached out to check on me, I repeatedly called her to update her on my progress, where I was and what I was doing. Once I was done with my inpatient stay I called her back to go forward with me plan of action for mental health just to be told "I closed your file" It hadn't even been 30 days from my initial assessment, I was communicating with the counselor and getting myself to a healthy space in order to continue my health care journey. Now they tell me I would have to start over and do another intake assessment, which they charge $500 for. So I paid $500 to have an hour assessment, where I was told I could get help through them with helping myself first, then when I did help myself, they want to charge me another $500 for another assessment! Ridiculous! There is no compassion here. If you are in a severe mental state you should not be put off or not checked on. You will not feel any type of concern or empathy here. They will probably end up making you feel even more helpless then you did when you reached out to them for help. As I told them "I hope you all show more compassion and understanding to the next person who trusts in you." But if I were you I wouldn't waste my time here.

I wish I could rate lower than 1 for this terrible office. This office is filled with terrible people who are out to lie and take advantage of people in need of help. Do not believe ANYTHING they tell you. I was seeking mental help while dealing with cancer. Asked the office if they accepted my insurance and was told they did. Four months later, I get a bill showing they are out of network and I owe everything. I call the office manager and they tell me this happens sometimes when the bill is submitted with the wrong office info. Manager assured me this would be taken care of. Another four months and I get a call asking if I would like to pay the bill since everything was submitted correctly. They suggested that I could get financial aid for the lies they told me.
