I had to give a 1 star of this place Susan’s house Adelphi! I don’t even understand where to even start! When m daughter was at this place the first month they kept giving my daughter the wrong doses of medication for a month straight! The people giving medication are not properly trained at all! I had to send an email to get it fixed! Then you have the unit manager Morgan that just left to another unit that would sent out monthly updates that one page said one dose of medication and the very next page says a complete different doses! Your child can’t tell you want is going on or a staff member will confront them while you are on the phone with them! Makayla from Susan’s house is very good at that! Makayla is friends with Jackie niece so Jackie who is above the unit supervisor will do nothing to help or even listen to anything you have to say about Makayla all because they are friends! They have staff clicks like high school! It’s out of control! Makayla told a client hat she did not have a male part and other staff happened to hear it but some can’t say anything because Makayla will bully them! I never had 2 family sessions in a month my daughter was at this placement for 6 months and we had about 5 families session! They can say that we had more but we did not! I have all emails and call records to prove it! Makayla was only nice when she got something from someone! She told my daughter that she likes a perfume she had and my daughter gave it to her and then was nice for about 2 hours. Per my daughter PO we got told not to tell my daughter she was leaving to come home today till she got to court and last night they had room changes and Makayla told a girl not to worry about it Gianna is leaving tomorrow as the other girl could hear and told my daughter last night! What happened to confidentiality? When I took my daughter out for a day pass when I brought her back Makayla was on her phone and could care less! That’s when she was spraying all my daughters perfume! That week after our weekend pass she pulled my daughter aside and treated her horribly!!she was mentally abusive to my daughter! This place makes your child worse! But let me make it clear my daughter did not make level once in 6 months and came home! As a parent make sure you email everything to everyone even the PO so you have documentation!! They will never email you back for a response because they are scared to get sued! It’s to the point I am not finished with this place after my daughter is home and I promise you I am not! Please have emails and sent it with everyone attached in emails to show you are communicating! This place needs to be closed for good! And the way that the higher up like Morgan and Jackie that is above the unit supervisor has favorites in staff and does not listen to other staff! Even if they say something! The way that other staff can’t open up because they have favorites! This place is unsafe for our children! Keep your child away from MAKAYLA!! And don’t forget that Makayla will never get into trouble because she is friends with Jackie’s family!! And best of friends with Morgan!

I was at a Susan’s place, and I was there for almost 8 months and for what I can say and what I’ve seen I love it there.. they have helped me become to beautiful bright young lady I am and I’m so grateful that I was put into Susan’s place because without the help of Morgan, Allison and Josh and the rest of the people I had with me through my journey I don’t know where I would be right now. But I am so glad that they helped me and showed me what it was like to be different from myself when I was on the out’s then inside.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. A “residential drug-free” (also referred to as inpatient non-hospital) treatment program that combines the evidence-based practices of Motivational Interviewing and the Transtheoretical Model of behavior change.

An aftercare plan or Single Plan is developed for every student within 30 days of admission, updated quarterly and finalized as discharge nears. Aftercare services are identified and coordinated with referring agents and parents/guardians. They prepare their students for the transition back to home, school and community by increasing family involvement in case planning and through therapeutic home passes. They facilitate school re-enrollment or coordinate GED and vocational classes.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Outside In conducts evaluations with adolescents or adults to determine if treatment is necessary and what service would best meet the client’s needs. Outside In’s Substance Abuse Treatment Services can provide treatment on an Outpatient or Intensive Outpatient level of care. The Outpatient Program views addiction as a primary, chronic disease with genetic, psycho-social and environmental factors influencing development and manifestation. Their clinical work is guided in part by the Transtheoretical “stages of change” model based on research conducted by Prochaska and DeClemente. All individuals, despite diverse and complex backgrounds go through five distinct phases of change with predictable processes at each stage.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Services are competent for co-occurring disorders and the level of care is determined based on the ASAM Adolescent Patient Placement Criteria.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) is an innovative and evidence-based family-driven drug abuse recovery program for adolescents and their families. MDFT is recognized as one of the most promising interventions for substance abuse, working with families in their home, school and community. MDFT looks at all of the components in a teen’s life to promote positive, long term change. Outside In began MDFT in March 2009. The clinical staff of Outside In has found that the operating principles of MDFT relate well to the work that has been taking place in their agency for years. MDFT is effective in helping youth ages 11-21 with substance abuse. Families who are experiencing some type of family or parent/child issue should consider participation in the service.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Adolescent group sessions provide valuable peer-to-peer dialogue and feedback that stimulates fresh perspectives regarding recovery. Groups are formed as needed and may be held in client-friendly locations throughout the county.

Individual sessions may be combined with family sessions and group sessions to enhance progress. Face-to-face time is coupled with telephone and teleconferencing techniques in a manner similar to many of SAMHSA’s model programs. This allows for frequent, responsive and timely treatment opportunities in a client-friendly and cost-efficient delivery system. Client satisfaction and outcomes information is gathered during treatment and post-discharge.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

My five years at Adelphoi were marked by two extremely different experiences, which is why I am giving a three-star rating. While I am immensely grateful for the individuals who helped me heal and grow, I cannot overlook the deeply harmful environment created by others. I want to start by acknowledging the staff who genuinely live the mission of Adelphoi. I am indebted to Nick and Cameron (my primary counselors), Ashlynn, Jen, and Josh, and a few others for their dedication. These staff members were instrumental in helping me address my mental health challenges and shift my perspective to focus on the positives in my life. They provided consistent guidance and a safe space to process my challenges. Their support provided a much-needed foundation of stability and care during a very difficult period of my life. Unfortunately, the value of this support was heavily weighted down by horrifying experiences I endured due to the actions of some staff members. This is where Adelphoi failed in its duty of care. I was subjected to treatment that included what I consider borderline mental, physical, and psychological abuse. Where staff would just say nasty stuff to us peers. While not all staff are like this, the fact that these actions were allowed to occur and persist indicates a serious failure in oversight, accountability, and training within the system. The environment was at times unsafe and actively damaging to my well-being and the well-being of other residents.
