We had a wonderful experience at paradigm. The residential is highly monitored, safe and offers enough freedom for teens to be connected with their parents via phone calls and weekly visits. They also offer visits to the YMCA for workouts and weekly outings(theatre, parks, bowling alley etc)so the teens don't feel cooped up in one place. If the teen doesn't abide by the rules, parents are immediately informed of the break in protocol. Medications are optional and not forced upon. Every single person who works at paradigm has been very helpful in the whole process and post dismissal transition process.

I was a patient here about a year ago and I have since turned 18. Many mixed feelings. The staff was so so so nice to me… the CAs could make friends with everyone and I genuinely liked the living experience more than home at the time. I could avoid fearing for my external safety from other clients. We had full size beds, great food and someone to talk to 24/7! Those of us that behaved well got to go on outings to the Park, sonic, frozen yogurt, and even the movies! The gym and personal trainer was great. I miss the CAs so much. They accepted me for who I was and genuinely cared about us kids, even when we were being jerks. The low security has its benefits—the whole physical atmosphere feels more human, peaceful and comforting—opposed to staying locked in a small building most of the day. There were locks to get into spaces, but I was never locked in... besides the 9ish ft wood fence around the property. The professionals meant well and cared about my recovery, but seemed relaxed and didn’t do a thorough job informing or diagnosing me. The psychiatrist took charge of my medication even after my request for consult with my outpatient psychiatrist. The psychologist made statements that she didn’t follow through with. I hated my therapist there. She refused to acknowledge the complexity of my situation and repeatedly gave me simple generic answers and solutions. She made the treatment plan right before my discharge and made me sign that I participated! (We never made a plan together) This was while I could barely keep my head up being so drowsy from medication. There seemed to be poor communication throughout the whole team. My parents had a nightmare working with insurance (BCBS) and I had to go home in an awful mental condition. It crippled my family financially as we nearly had to pay everything out of pocket even though the treatment was medically necessary. When it comes to the actual treatment… honestly I wouldn’t recommend for someone like me. Now updating in May 2025: Catlin, my assigned therapist, doesn’t work at Paradigm anymore. She departed well over a year ago. Residential treatment wasn’t beneficial for me at the time, however, I would recommend Paradigm for people struggling with substance abuse or recent/frequent traumas around home. Ultimately, real therapy work will get done outpatient within your life. Paradigm had their cookie cutter formula of resources to help me upon discharge, but unfortunately I didn’t utilize them.

Definitely one of the better residential centers in terms of quality-of-life. Food is excellent, rooms are comfortable, outings are fun, and the overall environment is very chill. I was a bit disappointed by the actual treatment provided; I found most groups to be somewhat surface level and disorganized, as each was taught by a different staff member and planned the day of, so there was little cohesion. I was here for 35 days and personally I have experienced very little long-term meaningful change after returning home. But that does tend to be a drawback of mental health care in general, so I can't fault Paradigm. If you just need to get away from your home environment for a bit this is a great and comfortable place to do so.

Paradigm Treatment Austin – Teen Residential Program works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Financing your treatment can make treatment more accessible. You'll work with your care provider to set up payment plans, including interest rates and repayment timelines. Financing options vary widely and not all programs offer them, so be sure to get the full details before enrolling in treatment. If you have insurance or other benefits, financing may help you cover your remaining out of pocket expenses.

Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Texas provides a safe environment for medical detox. This setting is crucial to provide medical care during withdrawal. Certain withdrawal symptoms can cause life-threatening conditions, but patients in a supervised clinical setting have treatment readily available to address any symptoms before they become severe. Treatment can also be provided for co-occurring physical and mental health issues.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.
outpatient iconOutpatient
After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Residents of a sober living home in Texas reside at the halfway house with others who have agreed to abstain from substances and practice sober-living skills. The relationships and accountability formed here can help individuals strengthen their mental health and achieve long-term recovery. Residents share common spaces such as kitchens and back yards, share meals together, and share household responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning.

Alcoholism occurs when a person becomes physically and psychologically dependent on alcohol. Attending a professional alcohol rehab in Texas can provide customized intervention methods to address the physical, mental, and relational challenges of addiction.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Texas's specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs prioritize comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. These programs offer diverse levels of care, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Evidence-based therapies, trauma-informed care, group work, and educational workshops help treat both conditions at the same time and give you the tools to sustain mental health and sobriety.

With a co-occurring drug or alcohol addiction and a mental health disorder, you'll want to seek out a dual diagnosis treatment center. These specialized rehabs offer services to address both conditions at the same time, including 24/7 access to medical and mental health professionals. By treating both disorders at the same time, it drastically increases your chances of successful long-term recovery.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse
opium iconOpioid Addiction

Substance abuse treatment is available in Texas for anyone who's struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. These programs usually provide a comprehensive assessment and individualized treatment plan, and include evidence-based treatments, like therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful coping strategies, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help with emotional regulation and stress.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Texas is to change thought patterns, which leads to changes in behavior. Specific techniques during CBT can include self talk, SMART goals, journaling, and positive activities.

Creative arts therapy focuses on creative processes. You may engage in sculpting, dancing, improv, painting, or sketching. These creative outlets provide an opportunity to explore and express difficult emotions.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Experiential therapy in Texas can look different for each person. You may engage in fitness activities, community service, culinary arts, or art therapy, for example. The goal is to provide a safe setting where you can interact with your environment and work through emotions and experiences with the help of that activity and the guidance of a therapist.

The purpose of family therapy is to create a supportive and understanding family dynamic within the family unit. Therapists help individual members to identify and change harmful behavior patterns and improve communication. This provides a stable foundation for the family and their loved one's recovery.

Peer support is an important aspect of group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction. As you and your peers share stories and encourage each other, it fosters a sense of community and belonging that helps you process your feelings and reduces the sense of isolation that is associated with addiction.

Individual therapy offers you a confidential space to address the complexities of your drug or alcohol addiction. Your therapist guides these personalized sessions to help develop self awareness and manage stress. This promotes sustained sobriety and overall well being.

Addiction recovery treatment in Texas will offer recreational therapy in a holistic approach to treatment. Therapy incorporates enjoyable activities that support your physical and mental health, such as team sports, creative arts, or individual sports. This activity gives you an emotional outlet, reduces your stress, and improves your mood, each of which promotes long term sobriety.

Our 16 year old was just discharged from Paradigm today and all I can say is WOW! The staff here have been absolutely wonderful. Every single person that we encountered from pre-admission to discharge has just been incredibly kind, warm, understanding, caring, & accommodating. My son felt heard, loved, and cared for, for his entire stay. It was mentioned in another review but this facility does feel more like a camp for kids with lots of therapy. They do plenty of fun activities with the kids and outings throughout the week. My son told us he slept like a baby every night and loved all of the food that was prepared. He loved his therapist and all of the staff that worked with him. Every time we spoke to him on the phone he was so positive and upbeat and had nothing but wonderful things to say. Unfortunately he had to spend Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years here but I was highly impressed with how the staff made the kids feel so good and helped to celebrate the holidays with them apart from their families. They had special holiday meals prepared and lots of fun activities and outings. I teared up when I talked about it with my husband. The staff spent time away from their own families on holidays loving on MY child. This place is very special. They’re doing great work & we are incredibly grateful! It’s so scary when you’re researching many of these residential treatment facilities. It takes a lot to entrust strangers to care for your child 24/7 for an extended period of time and I know I relied pretty heavily on other parents reviews. I would highly recommend Paradigm. You won’t regret it! My sons words to me on the phone yesterday before his discharge date today were “I’m actually really going to miss this place”. Thank you to all of the staff at Paradigm. We appreciate you so much!

I cannot say enough positive things about Paradigm in Austin, Texas. This program saved my sons life and I will forever be grateful that this worked out and we were able to send him. I'd like to start with his therapist, Glory. She had such a great way to connect with these kids, and was able to get to the root of my son's issues. It was a tough road, but life can be very tough, and he managed to get through on the otherside. Like any parent reaching out for help, I was VERY apprehensive, and some of these reviews scared me to be honest. We had an absolutely positive and successful experience. My son will tell you that it was life-changing for him. One that would be that he's never felt more accepted or understood. He will also say that it was the best food he's ever had! I had lots of things to change withinThey myself when he got out, and cooking was one of those things. All humor aside, it was very emotional when it came time for him to leave. He was in tears, his peer's were in tears, and to be honest, it was emotional on all of us. I'd also like to say that it is a very fine-tuned establishment. They have family weekends that we looked forward to, and they allowed families to be involved in therapy and activity. They kept in touch with us quite frequently, and if I needed to get a hold of my son, they were all available to speak with me and make time for him to talk with us. The accommodations were outstanding, as each teen had a queen bed, a clean bathroom, and kitchen facilities. They had a living room with boardgames, television and just a quaint gathering area. They were also able to incorporate his school with this program, and also gave one on one assistance which was more than he was getting just being in school and being home. My son had mentioned many other therapists that he also loved, but it has been awhile and I cannot remember their names. We cannot name one negative about Paradigm, and I'm sharing this as a parent with a great experience and no other affiliation to this establishment. Within days, they made him feel like family, and we couldn't me more thankful.

After being treated at other centers, my daughter finally found the help she needed at Paradigm. The staff was very nice, and had great knowledge that helped her treat her condition.

I would not recommend this treatment center to anyone. They are more concerned with squeezing money from your insurance than actually helping your child. As soon as they think there’s no more money to obtain from your insurance they push your child out. Not a fan of Valarie at all. I neither expressing that my daughter was not ready to come I’m home and not even three weeks later my daughter had a breakdown and it right back in a mental hospital. I would NOT recommend this place at all.

I'm shocked by all of the positive reviews of this place, as our experience was quite different. Our family had a disappointing experience with Paradigm Treatment Center, where our daughter was admitted for self-harm and suspected Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Initially, we were hopeful with therapist Cheyenne, who specialized in BPD treatment. However, Cheyenne left unexpectedly, leading to a significant gap in care. Her replacement, Valerie, was unaware of Kaylin's detailed psychological evaluation and made contradictory recommendations. The nursing staff also displayed a lack of awareness, resulting in unnecessary urgent care visits and unexpected bills. Despite assurances from the director Lisa about regular meetings to discuss our daughters treatment plan, she failed to honor this commitment, leaving us feeling unsupported. Ultimately, the center wanted our daughter to leave so badly that they recommended she move in with her biological dad, even though we shared concerns about her lack of supervision and continuing treatment while in his care. As soon as she moved in with him, he withdrew her from treatment and discontinued her medication. She is now unmedicated and reverting to self-harming behaviors. Our experience at Paradigm has left us deeply disappointed. I emailed the director and shared my concerns and got nothing in return. We urge the center to address these issues to prevent similar situations in the future.

i normally don’t write reviews, but this place is so amazing i feel i have to. Staff are funny and awesome, therapists genuinely listen and give amazing advice, food is good. I cannot stress enough how amazing the staff is. Amazing experience. Problems are handled quickly and efficiently. In my time there, the whole group, clients and staff, were extremely supportive and they genuinely cared. Amazing!

My child was very supported and learned a lot while at Paradigm. I liked the accessibility to team members and being able to call to check in with my child as much as I wanted to, as well as the weekly visitor days in-person. We also benefited from the family counselling sessions with our child - it was a great avenue for being able to open up about a lot of things and increase our understanding of one another and what we could change to help each other. We also appreciated having the weekly virtual parent development trainings to help us support our child as much as possible. All in all would definitely recommend!
