This review is about Parallels business practices and not the counseling. The counseling I received was excellent and I followed my therapist to her new location when she left!Parallels asks you to sign up for a patient portal, which would be nice except they don t really use it. I received an email in June stating that in July Parallels would be moving to paperless billing to be eco friendly, which is great! They asked me to sign up for the patient portal, which I already had, and in the email stated that the balance and patient statement will be posted on there. There is also a part that asks you to fill out paperwork if you want e-statements.Parallels has a very informal take to billing, so I sometimes would go to the front desk after my session to pay my outstanding balance. There is no check-in before the session (at least I didn t) so no one really discusses your account or tells you when you have an outstanding balance. So no one asked me if I wanted to fill out the e-statement paperwork either. I didn t ask for it because I thought the information would be on the portal, and I am pretty good at checking those things and staying on top of it.After I left Parallels to follow my therapist to her new practice in September, I checked the portal frequently to see if I had an outstanding balance. There was nothing on there every time I checked. I double checked my email to be sure it read that information would be put on the portal, and that is what it stated, so I periodically checked and left it at that. Again, Parallels has a very informal billing process so I assumed whatever wasn t on the portal I had already paid for. They don t show you billing paperwork when you pay, they just tell you how much you owe, so I never knew what days I was paying for.Yesterday, I received a letter and a phone call from a collections agency. Parallels sent my balance to that collections agency, which I understand is their procedure if one does not pay their balance and I signed paperwork stating I understood that. However, Parallels could have done a better job with communication about billing especially as they stated billing would be posted on the patient portal, and it was not. Additionally, had someone communicated about completing paperwork for e-statements I may have done that. Again, I didn t think it would be a problem if billing were to be posted on the patient portal.I tried calling Parallels to get an understanding of their billing procedures, but they blocked my number. I had no problem paying my balance. I want to pay for the services I ve received, however I wanted to discuss why there was miscommunication as I don t feel this is all my fault. My husband had to call them on a different number and they transferred him around before secretly transferring him to the collection agency. This was frustrating as we just wanted to discuss the billing procedures, and why I received no communication from them from September to December about my outstanding balance. My husband paid it and left it at that. This review isn t to keep you from going there, but to tell you about their informal billing process and how it is on you, meaning there is no communication about billing on the patient portal. So be diligent about billing and do not trust the patient portal as it seems they don t really use it. Sign up for the e-statements, continue to ask them about billing, and ask for statements when you pay. I understand I could have done some things better, but as a business they also could have been more on top of things as well. My therapist s new practice has automatic payments that charges after each section, which is lovely and it sends you a text receipt about it.I never wanted to get out of paying for the services, I just wanted to discuss the miscommunication and have them take some blame for what happened instead of shuffling me off to a debt collection agency.I ve attached pictures of the email and what my patient portal looks like.

We have been waiting since November for a Psych eval. It took 2 months for the insurance to approve my kid did a 20 min computer test in January and have heard NOTHING since. The receptionist gives a run around and they never call back. Thank god we found them someone who wants to help. If you want real help Kindred Psychology is the way to go. Parallel has proven to be nothing but a joke.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During drug rehab in Nebraska, you'll participate in therapies that address the many issues that contribute to addiction. Treatment includes physical, mental, emotional, and relational aspects. These methods provide the tools you need to achieve long-term recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I’ve been meeting with Rachel Denny since the beginning of September and it has truly helped change the way I think. I highly recommend her to anyone searching to find a way to make a change in your life. She provides a very comfortable environment and keeps everything judgment free.

I have been working with Rachel and Audrey from parallels and have to say that it has changed my way of thinking it was hard at first but they understand what you are going through and you build a real connection with them. I can open up and tell them what I wouldn't couldn't say to others and myself. I would highly recommend parallels if you are in need of any kind of help

I attended Parallels and found out how to reprogram the way I think. I understand why I think about things the way I used to and how to think differently about myself. It gives me the opportunity to change the way I act. I've had the pleasure of meeting with Audrey and Rachel and go through some intensive treatment and be guided though the book written by John Herdman A Rational Workbook for change. They are very caring and professional and impressed me more than many other programs I went through. Thanks so much!

I wouldn’t say they lied, but definitely gave me false information that my insurance would be accepted for services. It infact WAS NOT accepted. So I got charged for doing intake paper work. Which I refuse to pay! I feel exploited and so disrespected. For a mental health facility to treat clients like this, VERY disappointing. No one seeeking services for counseling or whatever should be taken advantage of like this.

While I would like to give this business credit for letting their secretary apparently walk out in the middle of her shift for some reason - kudos to them for giving their employees freedom to take breaks when needed - I would have liked it not to have come at the expense of the bare minimum of customer service. I came well over 20 minutes before my appointment to fill out the necessary (and incredibly invasive for a very first trial visit) paperwork and was met with a “well, maybe the secretary will come back” and spent all of that extra time sitting in the waiting room doing nothing. Then, when one of the therapists finally brings me the pre-printed forms the first person could easily have fetched, he pressured me unnecessarily to sign a release stating I would not be charging my insurance before I had even confirmed with certainty that my insurance would not cover it. Any time a business confesses they don’t like dealing with insurance is a red flag. Lastly, I was filling out paperwork ten minutes into my scheduled time without so much as a status update for when my assigned therapist would be meeting with me. The only time I was shown a modicum of respect and concern for my time was via email once they had realized I had left. I hate to leave a harsh review, especially working in the customer service industry as I do, but I have to relate my dissatisfaction in hopes of warning people as to what to expect if looking to seek counseling here. I can’t help but feel like I have dodged a bullet by ducking out before they could bill me for anything.

Dr. Herdman is amazing. He helped me to overcome my anger issues and taught me anger prevention strategies that were so valuable when I lost my job and became homeless for almost a year. I am eternally grateful to him and his leason.... It is what it is. Thank you so much for giving me my life back.
