Looking at the reviews of pine rest in general is heart breaking now I see why my mom failed at getting sober and mental health help and ended up murdered in 2013.SOOOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED in Beechwood Crisis Center as that is the one I am currently in. They failed to help me while I was an active alcoholic. I have never had any other addictions. I have fought very very hard for just over 4years to stay sober hoping to have my mental health conditions taken seriously instead of blaming the way I am on the alcohol. But nope here I am being treated like I'm an active alcoholic. The HUGE LACK of communication between physicians and staff is just crazy. Like what are you taking notes for if they're not even gonna be used. The casework James was literally rolling his eyes as I was talking to him. This place won't take anyone seriously. In it for the money. One of the staff passing meds literally told me she wasn't certified and hardly trained on passing meds, another staff member almost gave me someone else's meds so thankfully I was paying attention. Being Christian based you'd think there would be like church service offered on Sunday but no. Also through my sobriety I have done CNA classes so I am very thankful for the knowledge I gained and hope to someday have my mental health more under control so I can get back to nursing. Good luck to everyone out there struggling ❤️

Accepted Insurance

Pine Rest Campus Clinic works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Pine Rest’s outpatient clinics provide counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric services for individuals of all ages as well as couples, families and groups. Pine Rest offers outpatient substance use disorder treatment to adults, adolescents and families in 12 licensed outpatient clinics throughout West Michigan. Outpatient substance use treatment is provided by experienced credentialed therapists and is generally facilitated through the use of individual one-to-one sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes. All therapists are capable of treating persons with both mental health and substance use disorders.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient care is short-term, intensive treatment provided in safe and secure units designed for individuals who are experiencing significant behavioral health issues, the severity of which requires 24/7 monitoring and care for safety. Pine Rest offers over 226 inpatient beds across nine age-specific units, providing inpatient services for children, adolescents, young adults, adults and older adults. The Child and Adolescent Unit focuses on crisis stabilization in an environment that provides safety and therapeutic interventions for individuals less than 18 years of age. Their adult inpatient units are tailored specifically to meet the needs of adults whose symptoms require 24/7 care in a setting that provides safety and security during crisis stabilization. The Psychiatric Medical Unit is a 28-bed specialty unit for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric distress as well as significant medical conditions of a physical nature.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for individuals with a substance use disorder who require more than weekly counseling and less than residential care. The program provides monitoring several times a week in a supportive group setting. The group meets three times a week, mornings or evenings, for three hours. Participants attend for three to eight weeks, with four weeks being the average.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Michigan is essential for certain phases of recovery treatment. During detox, many physical ailments related to the detox process can be lethal if not treated. Having medical staff available at all times provides the proper care for safe detox. Medications and other treatment can also make the process much more comfortable and bearable.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

During a medically supervised detox, addictive substances are removed from your body while under the 24/7 supervision of medical professionals in an inpatient environment. This is the safest way to wean your body off of addictive substances, since quitting alcohol or certain drugs (like opioids or benzodiazepines) can be dangerous if done on your own. The program typically lasts around 5-7 days, but is highly individualized depending on your needs.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.

telehealth iconTelehealth

Telehealth lets you get the support you need from the safety and comfort of your own home. You can visit with your healthcare provider online via your favorite device. This saves time and money and may allow you to connect with a specialist sooner than an in-person appointment would allow.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

During a drug intervention in Michigan, family, friends, and colleagues share in their own words how a person's substance abuse has affected their lives. An intervention must be carefully planned, with the goal of encouraging the individual to get treatment for their addiction. Many rehab programs offer intervention services to help families prepare for this confrontation and guide them through the recovery process.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

In Michigan, specialized substance abuse treatment programs are available for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol use. These programs utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. Treatment options usually include outpatient, inpatient, and residential programs, offering individuals a comprehensive approach to recovery. Through a combination of therapy, counseling, and support, treatment can help individuals regain control of their lives and achieve long-term sobriety.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image

Teen program

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image

Adult program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image

Child program

The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image

Postpartum program

The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
seniors-program thumbnail image

Seniors program

Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young adult program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services has been providing Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for over 50 years with the most current technology and safety. Sometimes patients come to the ECT clinic because it is their treatment preference. Others come because they have a history of poor drug response, a history of good ECT response, are sensitive to medication side effects—or in cases where rapid response is required.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. The family program is a 10-week series designed to assist family members in understanding the disease of addiction and to develop healthy coping skills.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Each building and practice is going to get you different results. Outpatient psychiatry is absolutely horrible. Only reason I give a second star is because their urgent care was very welcoming and actually helpful.

I do not recommend receiving inpatient care from this place. I did not feel safe or respected as a patient due to malpractice from the clinicians who were supposed to help me, and they wrote false information in my file, which they refuse to change. My recipient right complaints were ignored due to my “records stating that no malpractice happened” and basically stated that I just had a mental breakdown. Overall, my experiences at Pine Rest have been highly traumatic, which still affects me to this day, and have ruined my trust with mental health care providers.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I have mixed feelings about the services I received from Pine Rest. From what I’ve learned, the clinic's primary toolset is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and I feel that services are broadly designed to meet criteria for state-funded, mental health crisis management and therefore may not be the best fit for my needs. My desire for seeking treatment 4 years ago was for grief counseling and recovering from work burnout endured from past employers. My therapists were responsive and validating through all my sessions and I am grateful for skills they could teach me over time. It’s just hard to shake that my provider’s work environment seemed to be negatively affecting their own well-being. Additionally, the constant assessments for depression and anxiety can be demotivating and the legal forms and mandatory signatures for medical information releases feel overreaching and create anxiety about my patient rights. I wonder if the framework for care at the Pine Rest Campus Clinic may be more beneficial for the institution itself and for insurance providers than for patients and their providers. I want providers who are noticeably empowered and thriving in their own lives. Providers who can actually entrust their patients with the support systems and management practices of the institution they belong to. I don’t feel this is the reality at Pine Rest. How can an institution, which is proud of their Christian foundation and values, overcome the bias within its own belief system? The belief that perceives humans and the world as condemned without a deity’s grace. Historically, religion doesn’t have a great track record for improving lives of the people actually living on Earth.

Totally getting the run around. My first appointment had to be rescheduled and lasted 35 minutes and I was charged 200.00 because of my deductible. Then i had a second appointment and that needed to be rescheduled so I asked for another counselor. Needing counseling bad but it doesn't seem like they care much. Do not recommend!
