I would be willing to put my life savings down that anybody who speaks poorly of this program never finished. Anybody who’s graduated would have nothing to, but good things to say.
I watched so many guys leave within the first few months. Most of these guys have never stepped foot in a church or open the Bible so when they find out there’s actual rules they typically kick and scream and call their mommy and daddy and do and say whatever they can to leave. I’ve heard guys accuse people of sexual harassment Just to get out of completing the program. Just remember, a drug addict will find any excuse..
It was actually pretty crazy. How many guys would leave within the first few months and then their parents would call in and inform the office that their kid overdosed. Usually it was to try and encourage the other guys to stay. I’m not just saying that. Within the one year I was there. It probably happened 15 or 20 times Wirk has left early and then died.
So any bad reviews you see on here I would disregard. The success rate for people who graduate is 98%. I am one of those people. 15 years sober. IV heroin and cocaine use. I was homeless. Now. I have three children I own my own house. Ive made it through a hard divorce without relapsing. This program gives you all the tools you need. And it gets better every time I go back to visit. Constantly doing remodels and upgrades. This is a blessed program.

I was just recently successfully discharged from KPEP Muskegon and I must say that I was treated with great respect by the majority of the staff there. I was never disrespected by the majority of the staff. However, KPEP Muskegon now has a new program director, Keith Head, and I have to be honest, once he took that position, he totally flipped. He now ignores residents when they "try" to speak with him. He admits to shredding case notes sent to him without even reading them. When before when he was a therapist he made time to talk to residents. Therapist Charles Nash is a very rude person....thats all I can say about him. Now, my therapist LISA LAMPHIERE was absolutely fabulous and so easy to talk to and open up to. The security staff: Steve K, Dustin, Ron Baker, Austin, Don, Mr. B, Tiffany, Lexi, Jared.....Thank You to you all for making me feel like a person and not just a statistic.

I’ve seen Dr. Steven Hull and highly recommend him. Dr. Hull is very human, as in, he’s real. He cares about the person he is treating. He is knowledgeable and is able to quickly and thoughtfully express why he is suggesting an idea or plan. At the same time he is a good listener. There has never been a time when I wondered if he heard what I was trying to say. He asks appropriate questions, and he is efficient. I always feel better when I leave because we have accomplished what we needed to in that visit. He has a positive outlook, and he will not compromise on his standards, which, for me, helps develop trust. He is tops in my book.

My experience met my expectations and being 5. I've been using the partial antagonist medicine for a few years and had great success until my doctors started making it difficult for ne to constantly stay in them and stabilize.
That and when you administer the pairtial antagonist you have yo go into the office to see them. This is always a smaller satellite location that you visit with people everywhere and most of them if not all of them aren't anywhere near as sick or hurting like an addict in withdraw.
The point to that was you have to see your doctor in person and in full blown withdrawals state when you see the docs. Then they have to determine if your ready for that medicine and make sure that you're such enough to start the meds because of you administer it too soon ot will make the person even more sick!!
It's very very difficult to start that med and can be dangerous and discouraging to many people. I was one of them for a while.
The staff was amazing and made everything feel very clean, calm, and controlled environment. The structure and attention they give every person makes it a place that not only feels safe but, it's safe.
The ladies at the desk are amazing and can confidently say the same for all the staff!
I've never been in a place of recovery like this before. You can feel the tenderness and compassion in the atmosphere that naturally provides judgement free area you can feel

I’ve been through 3 therapists at this clinic, they were very nice people. The service is great, the ladies at the desks are always kind and helpful.
Only things I would say is that sometimes the therapists go against your opinions and judgement and make you feel out of place or out of control. BUT all of my experiences here have been pleasant. Loved my past two therapists, Mattie DeBoe (no longer a therapist, moved to higher position) and Kelly anthi.
Compared to pine rests outpatient/inpatient care facility, this place is paradise. Their inpatient and outpatient facility has many many issues with the inpatient and resident facilities, the outpatient facilities are very helpful and welcoming, quite opposite of the inpatient.

An excellent place to go if you have an out of control addiction and need help. Or if you just fell off and need a hand getting back up.
Friendly staff, smoke breaks, ample time to socialize and work out our problems amongst ourselves... the place is amazing. And welcoming to people that return.
We can't all always get it right on the first go around. Sometimes it takes two, three, four... hell, even thirty tries. But admitting that there's a problem and working to fix it is the first step. And this place is an excellent resource if you need that kind of help.
I'm also an atheist. If you're worried about going to a church-affiliated group, don't be. They take a light touch with religion (mostly stuff in the daily readings), and try to be open to everyone. Same goes for LGBTQ+ folk: this is a safe place.
If you need help, these folks are who you need to get started

Seriously, this really is a great place. And the people are some of the best people you'll ever meet in the whole wide world. I wish I could reply to these negative reviews lol.. if you don't love this place, it's a you problem :) They work so hard for their patients. Like others said, if you want this program to work for you, you have to work hard for IT. Methadone is NOT harder to get off than heroin when you do the taper. You have a doctor and therapist by your side at all times if you need any help. If you start experiencing bad withdrawal symptoms, they adjust things. All you need to do is show up every day like you're supposed to, and follow the rules. Which really isn't that hard. It's not like they have a whole bunch of rules. All they ask is just common decency and showing up every day taking your dose and being respectful. They put up with so much crap you have no idea. So many people are so unappreciative and blame their use on the clinic every single time they do something wrong. If somebody shows up after the dose time they will sit there and throw a huge fit saying you're making me do heroin. This is not true you don't even start to withdraw off methadone until like 3-4 days after stopping dosing. People here are really respectful to all of us patients. Even when we aren't respectful to them. they are so patient and so kind I don't know how at the end of their day they're still nice. They keep this place running smooth and really do care about their patients. Like they care a lot. Like they are there for you through everything. Whatever you go through you can contact this clinic and they will at least be there for you if not help you with services and finding resources. They are very helpful and very resourceful. They really help get a lot of people out of streets and off drugs. Methadone treatment has has over an 80% success rate across this country. So if you stick with it you'll succeed. But you really need to want it. It's got to be to the point where getting high is harder than showing up at the clinic every day and dosing. Dosing has to be easier. Once you get to the point where it's so damn hard you just can't do it anymore, these people will be here for you.

This place has help me get my life back. I was totally at my bottom when I came here. I was addicted to heroin, crack, Alcohol and every and any drug I could get my hands on. I had to sign custody of my 3 children to my cousin because CPS was going to take my rights to them away from me. I was living in a horrible motel out in Grandville because I was kicked out of every other motel around. I was doing some retched things to support both mine and my abusive no good boyfriend. Finally after being so tired and wanting a way out but not knowing how I prayed to God for help. Not long after that prayer I was paralyzed from Guillian Barre Syndrome and was put in the hospital for a week. After I was moved into Mary Free Bed for 2 months to learn to walk, use my arms, and work on speech and get movement into my face again. I was put on methadone during this time because I could not fathom trying to lay in a bed and be able to move anything while going through withdraws. If you ever went through heroin withdraw. you know you have to be able to get to a bathroom for multiple purposes. So I got accepted in Cherry Street upon Release from Mary Free Bed.
This was not my first time going in to this program. I had went through it before but I was still using. I kept making excuses to use like I had to wait until I got my dose high enough or the methadone did not last through the night. But I was not ready at this time and was only trying to quit to make others happy and not for myself.
This time I was doing it for me and it worked. The point of the clinic for my recovery was I was able to change things. I was able to dig myself out of the hole I created and give myself a life full of reasons to stay on track with my sobriety. I went to college to get a degree in addictions so when I am tapered out of the clinic (which I am working on currently) I can find employment to help people like me. I was able to start a new relationship with my children and be in their lives. I meant a man who loves and excepts me for my past. He has a daughter that lives with us both and I love her as my own. I believed I could not have anymore children due to complications and a pregnancy loss but I have two beautiful little boys now. I did all of this while I was in the clinic. I needed this to get the drug dealers and the drug users out of my life and get thing I value in my life that I refuse to lose to addiction. I have been in the clinic for about 6 years now and I am happy to say I am tapering off. I am going very slow. I was at 107mg and now I am down to 76mg. I been only going down 1 or 2mg a week. But I am getting there.
So I know a lot of people are wondering why I shared my whole story for a review. I have just read a lot of post of saying how this program is horrible and it doesn't work. I wanted to show it does work if you really want it. The program does have some flaws like they can be more open to different work schedules. Also be more concerned about peoples employment because its their lively hood. But if you follow the rules you can get to the point where you only have to come once a month. Which shouldn't be that hard on your schedule. I stay at twice a month because with tapering I want to be able to adjust my dose as needed. Also I go for counseling once a month and I have always loved my counselors. I miss my old Counselor Melissa Barns she was an amazing person and made me feel like I had someone in my corner. But my new counselor is pretty awesome too.
In the end this program is something you have to make work for you. But if you come in follow the program and stay away from the few bad apples that are in the program you CAN get your life back.
Update 01/2026 You guys really need to pay your counselors more or something. I always get amazing counselors and then they find better jobs and leave😭😭😭😭😭 Elaina Kimbrell THANK YOU for the support you have given me. You will be missed. I am devastated for me but happy for you. I hope you are very successful and live a happy and fulfilled life!

The Cardiac Rehab team at West Michigan Cardiology is amazing! After any type of heart related event it's important to make lifestyle changes and they do an incredible job of helping people learn to live a healthier lifestyle. The class room portion focuses on improved/healthy eating habits and mental/physical well being. The physical/workout portion was great for me personally. Having the peace of mind knowing my heart was being monitored while I worked out went a long way in rebuilding my confidence. They took the time to set up work out circuits specific to my needs which was greatly appreciated (except the leg workouts lol). They do a great job of encouraging people while they workout and make it fun by doing themed circuit workouts once a week. I highly recommend Cardiac Rehab for anyone post heart related health issues.

Grand Rapids, MI | Guiding Light Mission is a faith based nonprofit addiction recovery center serving men and women in Grand Rapids and West Michigan. Through its comprehensive “Rescue, Recovery and ReEngagement” model the program addresses chronic addiction alongside homelessness, unemployment, and isolation. With over 95 years of service, Guiding Light | Treatments Programs Payment Options | This rehab doesn’t sugarcoat recovery, it’s intense, honest, and exactly what I needed to rebuild my life. They taught me accountability, discipline, and self-worth. If you’re ready to change, this is where it happens. Tough love, real support and lasting results. This was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but also the best. The program challenged me mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.... Those challenges were vital and needed to break old patterns and live life a new way. Clean and sober since Feb 25, 2025.

Great service and staff. Volunteer coffee is a plus. We really enjoyed the employee art show but would have totally missed it if we hadn't had to wait in that area. Better notifications set out would have brought more viewers.
