About Puente House

Puente House provides a structured environment where men can continue to move forward in their recovery. The sober living home is for those who need to remain away from their home environment while they continue to strengthen their ability to remain sober. This environment helps individuals learn new skills, create new habits and outcomes for their lives, and maintain a proper routine that encourages healthy living. Each person must remain sober while living on site.

Puente House accepts inquiries from interested individuals to discuss the cost of living on site. If a person wants to use their insurance to pay for mental health treatment or addiction treatment, they are encouraged to contact their insurance carrier to verify coverage, because out of network benefits may vary.

Man… Puente House 444. I loved it. I hated it. But I needed it. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade those six months for anything. When I arrived, I was needy, hungry, angry, stubborn, and convinced I had it all figured out (I didn’t). 😤 I hated the rules, the structure, but knew it is something I needed. But little by little, I started to understand. Puente isn’t just about sobriety—it’s about becoming someone you can respect. The staff didn’t sugarcoat anything. They called me out, pushed me, and supported me in ways I didn’t know I needed. ❤️ I came to love the community—the kitchen laughs, the raw group talks, the late-night convos with guys who most likely did not make it. Some days I couldn’t stand facing myself, or even shower. Other days, I felt more alive than I had in years. What makes 444 special is how it sticks with you. Shouting “444” during meetings or hearing it from someone picking up a chip gave me something I’d been missing: belonging. That alone killed off my loneliness. Today, I’ve got over 9 months sober. I now understand: sobriety comes first—everything else follows. If you’re struggling and ready to face yourself, go to 444. It’s not easy. But it’s real. And it works. 💪 Thank you, Puente House. Puente House and Karl Moris gave me a community and the support to dive into AA and subsequently, begin to rebuild my life to even better than what it was before. They provide a foundation and structure to what life in sobriety can be. I will be forever grateful to Puente House for what it has done for me.

I'll be 8 months sober/clean on 5/9/25 and it's all because of Puente House and how it has been a truly life-changing place for me. The structure, accountability, and supportive community have played a major role in helping me rebuild my life in recovery. It’s clear that the staff and leadership are committed to creating an environment where people can genuinely grow and heal. While no place is perfect, what stands out here is the consistency in support and the focus on long-term sobriety. I’m incredibly grateful for the foundation this program has given me—not just to stay sober, but to thrive.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Puente House’s website is built on vague, self-aggrandizing claims that collapse under scrutiny. The lack of transparency and follow-through makes it an unreliable option for recovery housing. “We’re close to the top recovery centers in the San Gabriel Valley.” Only that Puente House considers itself “close to” being a top-tier recovery home. No metrics, no resident outcomes, no third-party endorsements, no alumni success rates—nothing substantiates the implied excellence. It’s marketing sleight-of-hand designed to inflate perception without evidence. Laundry Facilities The site lists “laundry facilities” but omits the critical detail: these are pay-per-use, coin-operated machines. This recurring expense is never disclosed upfront and disproportionately impacts residents with limited financial resources. Programming Promises Claims of “life skills workshops, job readiness coaching, and reintegration support” are entirely unsupported in practice. Zero scheduled workshops. Zero résumé assistance. Zero job placement resources. The only structured requirement is meeting attendance—standard for any sober living, not a value-added service. Sponsor Interference Residents must obtain management approval for 12-step sponsors and are strongly discouraged from continuing with external sponsors. This policy disrupts continuity of care, contradicts 12-step autonomy, and prioritizes house control over individual recovery needs. Overall Puente House presents itself as a premium recovery environment but delivers bare-bones oversight at a premium price. The absence of verifiable outcomes, hidden fees, and restrictive policies reflect a facility more focused on compliance than genuine support. Prospective residents deserve evidence-based claims and transparent operations— Puente House provides neither.
