About River Point Behavioral Health

River Point Behavioral Health Center is a treatment center located in Jacksonville, Florida. Here they specialize in treating mental health conditions, co-occurring disorders and addiction. This facility offers services to adults, children and adolescents and offers special treatment to veterans. The levels of care offered here are medical detox, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient treatment. While receiving treatment at this facility they will offer medical compliance and education, relapse prevention, and recovery strategies you can utilize on your journey of healing. This facility accepts Medicaid and Medicare insurance.

Taking the first step to this ongoing journey is being able to accept that you need help and are open to allowing experts to help you move forward. It’s uncomfortable and understandable to be scared going into a facility and being unsure of what to expect. Medical detox at this facility will help bring you into stabilization and tend to medical concerns you may have been experiencing such as withdrawals and/or cravings among other symptoms that can be too dangerous to experience without medical supervision. The medical staff will monitor you around the clock and provide you with the appropriate care you need.

During inpatient treatment, topics such as reducing the chances of relapse, coping skills, and medication management will be part of your treatment. When seeking inpatient care, you will still have 24-hour medical supervision from the nurses and they will help you get acclimated with building structure and day to day routine.

They will introduce you to alternative routes for your healing journey so you have more ways to manage and deal with your emotions and stress without going back to unhealthy thinking and harmful behaviors. Medication management and education helps you get a thorough and deep understanding of the medication you may be prescribed to reduce misuse and ensure your safety.

Relapse prevention helps you become more knowledgeable and equipped for circumstances that can be out of your control so you know what to do. This helps you better understand the harmful impact of substance abuse and the threat it has on you as well as the life you build and your loved ones. Learning how to handle if or when you feel triggered and strengthening your recovery can also be some of the topics discussed.

I enrolled in the program after completing a 4-month inpatient rehabilitation stint In Port St lucie. The staff here have always been amazing and responsive from the very first day I contacted them. Like any other rehab, you only get out of it what you put into it and if you are willing to do the work. Each person is given individual attention, the group therapy discussions are amazing, and I would strongly recommend this program to anyone that inquires about it

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Good enough staff that works there. That said they are very understaffed and seem to have a high turn over in staff. That is due to the management and those at the top, in particularly the psychiatrists (who are said to have final decisions on everything). There is a noticeable lack of compassion, empathy, or even just sympathy towards the extremely venerable individuals this place is tasked with serving. From a fully aware inside out perspective, there is significant damage that is being done to a population that already has to faces significant stigma and deals with trauma issues across the spectrum. To not completely throw a blanket of complete distaine about the entire place, there are truly good people working there with good hearts and want to see the patients served, they are not a part of management. Your prospective can shift in a positive manner as a result of some of the group activities that takes place, the greatest is interactions with other patients. At every level except the management and psychiatrists there are good, caring, individuals working beside ones that wear their stress from working there on their faces and ways they interact with patients. If you don't mind not know what the hell is going on, can't get any answers, get little sleep if you are not on any sleep aid, being treated with disrespect while being asked to give it, you end up at this place.

This place feels safe, it's LGBT friendly and the staff are understanding. The psychiatrist goes in depth with you, and there's probably someone who's gone through really similar stuff as you. It can be comforting.

Oh my goodness this 2nd time 5051. 1st was at 18 years old I slept for 2 days then signed out. No help. I'm from the panhandle, This place only place that could handle my seizures, strokes, and falls. I walked with a cane to kept my balance. I was put in a wheelchair. The nurses, counselors therapists, psychiatrists, techs, and cooks. Everyone respectful, caring. I was in for 5 and a half days. 1or2 day I had panic attack what happen. It was hard. I was okay next few days I learn a lot from everyone. The only issue, I had was since I did not have my cane they put me wheelchair. I have used them at Walmart husband pushes. I have condition costochondritis and damaged wrists. Explain what triggers. At first, my new bubby asked if he could push me. It was great it was so hard to push over to the cafeteria for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's caused chest pain. Tech I think told us no one can help people in wheelchairs. We were shocked, I cried until I was able to get pain medication for inflammation. So they should allow anyone to help people in wheelchairs. I left with bruises on my wrists and ankles

Our experience was with inpatient. The doctors/social workers/ Nurses are absolutely phenomenal in my experience. They care, and want to see your loved ones thrive. But the day to day staff/ assistance added chaos to an already difficult and heartbreaking situation. The communication is terrible and trying to contact your loved one is so difficult. I was told that I could bring my loved one books and clothes but no coloring utensils then found out that the hand written card and coloring books/comics never made it to my family member. Everytime I called i was told calling hours are x slot and call back. Then I'd call back and it was either a new time or being told I missed the slot. If you can, I highly highly advise going to the er if you are in crisis or calling mobile response unit before coming here. All that said I have a tremendous amount of respect for the highly skilled professionals we encountered and this is a much better experience than permenantly loosing a loved one due to mental illness.

I wish I could say everything went great in my 5 day stay, but it didn't. The guy I shared a room with had a 102 temp and they wouldn't let me change rooms, now I'm sick with a fever coughing up green stuff because of it. Also the staff constantly had attitude problems and treated us like sub humans. Besides a couple of decent nurses that actually cared. Would not recommend

The place is very poorly ran/managed. In my time in inpatient I was barley seen by the DR. Who continued to push me to take the medication that was DOCUMENTED to be the cause of my issues leading me to be there. the techs are understaffed and overworked and it shows in their care. (Mrs. Tee , Liz ,Mrs. Sean, and Hannah were the absolute God sends for compassion in that place. )

THE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM is such a safe place. Do not allow the inpatient scare you away from the IOP classes. The therapist & program itself provide information that have changed my perspective and the way I live my life. They have the answers but they have taught me that at the end of the day it’s up to me to apply them. Thank you -Amanda C.

I would not recommend River Point for mental health care, particularly for children or adolescents. In my experience, the quality of care provided was deeply lacking. There appeared to be no meaningful therapeutic intervention or accurate diagnosis during my child's stay. Communication with the facility was extremely poor — aside from an initial update, I received little to no follow-up, and calls or messages were rarely returned as promised. The environment felt more like a holding center than a treatment facility, with the focus seemingly placed on extending a child’s stay until insurance coverage lapses, rather than addressing their mental health needs. Reviewing the medical documentation only reinforced my concerns, as it reflected minimal therapeutic engagement. Additionally, interactions with staff were often unpleasant. Basic questions about my daughter's care were met with dismissiveness or frustration, which made an already stressful situation more difficult. Sadly, my daughter left the facility feeling more distressed than when she was admitted. I strongly encourage families to seek care elsewhere if they are looking for compassionate, effective mental health support.
