About River Point Behavioral Health

Taking the first step to this ongoing journey is being able to accept that you need help and are open to allowing experts to help you move forward. It’s uncomfortable and understandable to be scared going into a facility and being unsure of what to expect. Medical detox at this facility will help bring you into stabilization and tend to medical concerns you may have been experiencing such as withdrawals and/or cravings among other symptoms that can be too dangerous to experience without medical supervision. The medical staff will monitor you around the clock and provide you with the appropriate care you need.

During inpatient treatment, topics such as reducing the chances of relapse, coping skills, and medication management will be part of your treatment. When seeking inpatient care, you will still have 24-hour medical supervision from the nurses and they will help you get acclimated with building structure and day to day routine.

They will introduce you to alternative routes for your healing journey so you have more ways to manage and deal with your emotions and stress without going back to unhealthy thinking and harmful behaviors. Medication management and education helps you get a thorough and deep understanding of the medication you may be prescribed to reduce misuse and ensure your safety.

Relapse prevention helps you become more knowledgeable and equipped for circumstances that can be out of your control so you know what to do. This helps you better understand the harmful impact of substance abuse and the threat it has on you as well as the life you build and your loved ones. Learning how to handle if or when you feel triggered and strengthening your recovery can also be some of the topics discussed.

I've been here twice both as a teenager and an adult. I want to comment about my experience when I was a teenager, 15 years old. When I was 15, my dad sent me to this mental hospital and a black female worker (don't know her name, she might not even work there anymore) said I had to get undressed. It took me a little while to get undressed because I was uncomfortable so the female worker asked "Who do you think you are? All that and a bag of chips." Also, I remember being up late and the employees would talk poorly of the patients there. Would not recommend bringing teens here

Seems like everyone was held longer than the 72 hours 😕. The so called "psychiatrist " was intolerable. Talking to others revealed that Bay County and the Panhandle of Florida in particular was the feeder area. I take a drug for a physical condition that they did not provide. I didn't always feel safe. Leaving my room door open as required was annoying because the lights shone in my eyes. The requirement to always attend "group " because it counted towards your release date seems overdone, and was unknown to me until discharge. I was required to account for myself even in the shower by a male. The inside was filthy, with no hand soap available in the common area. I was ordered around like I was a child, and marched around like it was a prison. I felt like I was in prison, though I have never been in prison. We were referred to as "inmates ", I heard one of the aides as she was cataloging his possessions. I was taken over 5 hours from my home. The food was mostly barely tolerable, and only breakfast was served in the cafeteria. Stupid rules were enforced like putting a lid on a cup of ice, which was only available in the cafeteria. I deeply regret EVER allowing myself to be placed under the authority of the "system ".

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Horrible Communication: There was no clear or timely information provided about my case status or the duration of my hold. - Lack of Legal Justification: Despite completing the 72-hour hold, I was kept for additional days without any legal or medical justification provided. - No Follow-Up: Staff repeatedly said, *“I need to look at your file,”* but never returned with answers, forcing my husband and me to constantly chase them for updates. Staff Behavior and Professionalism -Unprofessional Night Staff: Arguments among staff occurred in front of patients, worsening anxiety and stress for those seeking help. - Disruptive Environment: Loud talking, laughing, and door slamming from the nurses’ station were frequent, making it difficult to rest. - **Intrusive Checks**: Flashlights were shined in my face every 12 minutes during sleep, disrupting any chance of proper rest. Facility Conditions - Poor Hygiene: Bugs were visible in rooms and common areas, raising concerns about cleanliness and sanitation standards. Meditation after discharge: After multiple times giving the pharmacy information to the doctor and nurse, had to call everyday to get my prescription sent. Took 8 days to get them to send my perception to my pharmacy. Overall Experience The lack of transparency, unprofessional behavior, and subpar facility conditions made my stay at River Point Behavioral Health Center extremely distressing. Instead of receiving the support and care I needed, I felt neglected and disrespected. Would I recommend this facility? No. The environment and staff behavior are counterproductive to mental health recovery.

For a place labeled “behavioral health”, it surely helps nobody. I was in the unit of older kids. I stayed for 3 days, nothing huge but it was miserable. The staff simply does not care about the kids under their supervision. They often were telling kids to shut up, or expressing how annoyed the kids made them. They somewhat punished the ill…for being ill. I wasn’t ill myself, just got baker-acted over a misunderstanding. The staff could be described as impatient, very few actually were kind. Many of them were rude and snappy to kids who simply needed help. I brought a blanket with me to the facility, never got it. My mother brought clothes for me. I never received them. I was never instructed on when I could collect them, and when I asked they said they would bring it but they never did. I signed a paper to receive said clothes but never got them. They don’t help you, they just throw you on a couch for 16 hours a day and expect you to not go mental. This place doesn’t help, it just forces you to act sane after so they don’t bring you back. I asked for medicine and was refused it because there were too many people lining up at the nurses station. For good reason, I’d believe. Kids were not getting ample medication or help. They just essentially bully the kids who actually need help until they can’t take it anymore. Calling the people who you’re expected to help “annoying” or saying that “they need to go”, isn’t helping them, it’s harming them. It’s helping their alienation. Also the building is freezing, yet they refuse to give kids the means to warm themselves. The building was constantly dirty, also. It never felt clean. Rust and what seemed to be the remains of mold build-up tattered so many walls. This is simply a place for people who absolutely have no say in where they’re being taken and NOTHING else.

They don’t even deserve 1 star. If you have the choice please don’t send your loved ones here. First thing they said to me was that it’s basically all homeless people and drug addicts. This is not a place to help people with depression and suicidal thoughts. Truly will make it worse. This place is disgusting. We were crammed in tiny room all day with not enough chairs for everyone and couldn’t go into our rooms during the day. I never saw them sanitize or clean anything just sweep. No hand soap no hand sanitizer anywhere so you could only wash your hands with water. I’m lucky I didn’t catch some disease here. If you have OCD this place will be detrimental to you. There wasn’t a single kind person employed here. Kim one of the “therapists” we saw in groups was insane. She was yelling and screaming at us the whole time. She said this was a place just to hold people who are baker acted not to help them get better. I’m not sure how she has a job she’s a very angry person. They give you a pin to give people so they can call you while there. My family had the pin and called many times and I never got any word from the staff about it.The food was awful and no access to water without asking and it would annoy the employees every time. I never felt safe here. I was scared the whole time and they could care less. We had to hire a lawyer to get me out of this awful place. They just wanted to keep me there as long as I could because I have health insurance. This one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. This is not a place to heal. I imagine this is what prison is like. It should be shut down. There is no way the positive reviews are real.

I’m leaving this five star review for the front desk lady whose name is Ty. She is a superstar. She deals with so much on a daily basis with so much grace and so much style I was in awe of her. It was a traumatic day, but to watch her in action was truly beautiful. She is your gem! Keep her and give her a raise! Thank you Ty for going above and beyond! ❤️
