Rehabilitation Support Services is a community services organization that has a wide variety of programs to help people with mental illness and other issues like substance abuse to recover and live independently. This particular facility is their Elm Street Residence in Oneonta, New York. Oneonta is in upstate New York between Binghamton and Albany, and the Elm Street Residence is in a charming neighborhood near Wilber Park.
Treatment for Specific Populations
This treatment center is a nondescript facility for adults with mental illness including those who have a dual diagnosis of substance use disorder, too. In other words, they only have addiction treatment for those who have a mental illness along with their drug and alcohol addiction. They currently house a range of 8-14 individuals.
It’s also specifically for adults who are eligible for Medicaid so they serve people who might not have the finances for traditional treatment. Other centers might also have specific criteria, such as geriatric care or those who need only six months for a lower level of care.
Skills for Independent Living
The main goal at this residential center is to give you the skills and stability you need to be able to live independently in recovery. To that end, they have a variety of therapies and services like life skills training.
They have plenty of fun activities that emphasize health and wellness and you’ll live in a community of others who are on a recovery path. I noticed that the treatment here is very individualized for each person so you’ll get the specific types of education and counseling you need.
