It's been a few years since I've been a member of RSS on River St. in Oneonta but I wanted to give a review. This organization helped me when I had no family or friends or anyone in this world. God lead me to RSS and they helped change my life. Sherry Stallone and her staff were kind., respectful and understanding when I was incapable and afraid and misunderstood. My agoraphobia would have taken over my life had it not been for the help given and received from RSS and the Mental health office they sent me to in Oneonta. RSS works with the community and the individual to enable people like me with mental health issues to become a working and contributing member of society. RSS was the VERY first step for me that opened all the other doors I could not open myself. They supported me all the way until I was able to be launched on my own. The experience of clients is wholly dependent on the counselors. I had a good one. Clerical, billing and administrative all seem to genuinely be helpful. Most of your experience will be with the counselors, so yeah it'll really depend.They may be able to help you realize triggers and non-consequential thinking. They can help to connect you with the treatment level appropriate, if any. They aren't selling a model of treatment or cajoling clients to be better. They expect if you're there, you're ready to be honest and open to the opinion of a professional. What you do with that information is yours. If you ask, they'll tell you how they can best help.When seeing reviews for this place, please keep in mind the mindset of most people going to a county service and taking time to leave a review. Most people feel entitled to have access to these services instead of the privilege it is, so will often come at it from that viewpoint. I understand the county is not required to provide any services, but am grateful that they do.

McPike is a great rehab that I have been to and graduated. There team of counselors are awesome and full of knowledge and experience. The daily program keeps you busy with 7 groups a week Monday - Friday and a smaller group activity schedule on the weekends. The room where most groups are held in is called the rotunda and features a 100 inch flat screen TV. There medical and psychiatric team is very professional and kind. The food is decent and sometimes you can get seconds if you're hungry. Breakfast is the best. No cell phones allowed. They also have indoor regulation size cornhole a ping pong table and a PlayStation 4. They have a lot of security cameras in the common areas and hallways. Beds are comfy and I didn't have a roommate at all. After I graduated I went to a 3-month program which I graduated and then went to Rutger House at which I graduated also. I am now over 2 years clean and stay in Utica in my own apartment and didn't go back to Buffalo. I'm a 38 yo Male

ACBC helps if you let it. They have excellent counselors and peer advocates. The morning breakfast is awesome too . But don't go just for the free food. If you're an addict like me who wants and needs help, go. If you're "forced" to go because of parole or probation make the best of it, you may learn something. But don't be disrespectful to the ones who actually take it seriously.

I as a young teenager ended up here as well in 1987-1988. I was a very troubled teen with a lot of trust issues towards adults. I stayed on the lowest level of the behavioral level system for a long while until I agreed to try medication as a alternate helping tool. I went straight to the top of the level system and stayed there til I went home. Thank you to all the people who helped me and made me who I am today. I remember making a video for the house of the good shepherd as a model and would really love to get a copy of that video from so long ago.

I've had I think 2 or 3 therapists there, I personally didn't feel comfortable talking to the first one but the one I have now is amazing also from what I heard, one of the teachers at the "school" my cousin went to when they were thereEmotionally abused my cousin (who has autism and multiple other things.)Called him names, called out my cousin in front of the whole class to exclude and embarrassed him.From what my cousin said, the kids were very rude and got in alot of fights and the staff just sat around. No one chooses to come to this place over another place, but here s a review:The staff had no idea who I was when I got there. Of course, neither did I. They treated me like I was some guy off the street, and based their opinion of me on how I was acting, which, at the time, was terrible.Over time, I chilled out, and got to know some of the staff, and found at least one of them to be a decent human being. I never really got tight with any of the patients except one guy I got in a fight with and now we re pretty good.It s pretty much what you make of it, if you are expecting to be healed you are probably going to be disappointed. If you are willing to look at what brought you there, if you are ready to accept some kind of responsibility for your share in it, you might find that GBHC can provide some time to try and address whatever it was that got you locked up in the first place. If you think the doctors and nurses are going to provide you with answers for life s persistent questions, you can always keep looking.Food is alright, but could be a lot better.
