It's been a few years since I've been a member of RSS on River St. in Oneonta but I wanted to give a review. This organization helped me when I had no family or friends or anyone in this world. God lead me to RSS and they helped change my life. Sherry Stallone and her staff were kind., respectful and understanding when I was incapable and afraid and misunderstood. My agoraphobia would have taken over my life had it not been for the help given and received from RSS and the Mental health office they sent me to in Oneonta. RSS works with the community and the individual to enable people like me with mental health issues to become a working and contributing member of society. RSS was the VERY first step for me that opened all the other doors I could not open myself. They supported me all the way until I was able to be launched on my own. The experience of clients is wholly dependent on the counselors. I had a good one. Clerical, billing and administrative all seem to genuinely be helpful. Most of your experience will be with the counselors, so yeah it'll really depend.
They may be able to help you realize triggers and non-consequential thinking. They can help to connect you with the treatment level appropriate, if any. They aren't selling a model of treatment or cajoling clients to be better. They expect if you're there, you're ready to be honest and open to the opinion of a professional. What you do with that information is yours. If you ask, they'll tell you how they can best help.
When seeing reviews for this place, please keep in mind the mindset of most people going to a county service and taking time to leave a review. Most people feel entitled to have access to these services instead of the privilege it is, so will often come at it from that viewpoint. I understand the county is not required to provide any services, but am grateful that they do.

Place was horrible, very few good caring counselors. Recently there was a change at the top and seems to be better. Tiffany, Carly and Fawn along with the office staff are good and helpful.
I was lied to, told I had to leave then got an attorney and it all changed.

My therapist Carly listens to me. Allison Thomas my psychiatrist I trust. I have not had a bad experience with this office. Only problem is sometimes can be hard to get an appointment because they are so booked always. Otherwise very helpful and nice people

McPike is a great rehab that I have been to and graduated. There team of counselors are awesome and full of knowledge and experience. The daily program keeps you busy with 7 groups a week Monday - Friday and a smaller group activity schedule on the weekends. The room where most groups are held in is called the rotunda and features a 100 inch flat screen TV. There medical and psychiatric team is very professional and kind. The food is decent and sometimes you can get seconds if you're hungry. Breakfast is the best. No cell phones allowed. They also have indoor regulation size cornhole a ping pong table and a PlayStation 4. They have a lot of security cameras in the common areas and hallways. Beds are comfy and I didn't have a roommate at all. After I graduated I went to a 3-month program which I graduated and then went to Rutger House at which I graduated also. I am now over 2 years clean and stay in Utica in my own apartment and didn't go back to Buffalo. I'm a 38 yo Male

I had a life changing experience at the in patient program I would recommend it to anyone who suffers form the disease of addiction. Just an update on this review. I'm now over year sober thanks to the wisdom taught and the lessons learned during my time at insights house at Helio, I am very grateful for my time under there care. I would strongly recommend anybody who suffers from the disease of addiction or has a loved one that suffers from this disease to strongly consider taking advantage of this program to start their path to sobriety. I have been to several treatment centers and I feel as though I got the most out of this place not only because i was ready to be sober but because it is a great program. I think there is still to much down time and weekends are long and boring. I feel that you will get out of it what you put in and that is true for most aspects of life.

I as a young teenager ended up here as well in 1987-1988. I was a very troubled teen with a lot of trust issues towards adults. I stayed on the lowest level of the behavioral level system for a long while until I agreed to try medication as a alternate helping tool. I went straight to the top of the level system and stayed there til I went home. Thank you to all the people who helped me and made me who I am today. I remember making a video for the house of the good shepherd as a model and would really love to get a copy of that video from so long ago.

I've had I think 2 or 3 therapists there, I personally didn't feel comfortable talking to the first one but the one I have now is amazing 💗 also from what I heard, one of the teachers at the "school" my cousin went to when they were there
Emotionally abused my cousin (who has autism and multiple other things.)
Called him names, called out my cousin in front of the whole class to exclude and embarrassed him.
From what my cousin said, the kids were very rude and got in alot of fights and the staff just sat around. Also the teacher was fired from what the staff was "aloud" to tell us

No one chooses to come to this place over another place, but here’s a review:
The staff had no idea who I was when I got there. Of course, neither did I. They treated me like I was some guy off the street, and based their opinion of me on how I was acting, which, at the time, was terrible.
Over time, I chilled out, and got to know some of the staff, and found at least one of them to be a decent human being. I never really got tight with any of the patients except one guy I got in a fight with and now we’re pretty good.
It’s pretty much what you make of it, if you are expecting to be ‘healed’ you are probably going to be disappointed. If you are willing to look at what brought you there, if you are ready to accept some kind of responsibility for your share in it, you might find that GBHC can provide some time to try and address whatever it was that got you locked up in the first place. If you think the doctors and nurses are going to provide you with answers for life’s persistent questions, you can always keep looking.

I loved it there. When I got out I for some reason wanted to go back. It felt like home. We heard stories about the old building and it not being the best but the new building was great. The staff were awesome watching movies and playing games with them were the best things ever. Staff are great at their jobs. Foods actually pretty good. Their chicken reggies was so good. We only had 6 people in my ward during my stay. They were good kids I liked most of them. By the way if anyone found mine and Alexa’s custom uno cards lmk. And harshit is the best staff member by far. That’s all I gotta say

The doctor that treats me is an awesome person, I truly believe he cares about us patients. I have also spoken to some other doctors, and they have been very friendly and helpful. When it comes to the staff, I'm not that happy, they are careless and unorganized sometimes, they are nice, but they should learn how to do their job.

I had zero issues with this clinic. Everyone as extremely polite and particular. In and out for lab work in 15 minutes. Someone picked up the phone as soon as I called and I was able to get in for an appointment fairly quick.

The Staff works efficiently to successfully meet all needs, fill last minute prescriptions when I forget, move appointments when I have trouble sleeping and just don't have it in me to make it. They constantly refer programs that will assjst me, they make every effort to remind me of my appointments. Louis, the secretary always either answers, or returns my call in a timely manner. Overall , this is an exceptional facility, and it is far more warm and welcoming than other clinics or the VA hospital.
