I went to the ER yesterday and wound up having to be admitted to the hospital, but my visit at the ER was great from start to finish. The care I received was so reassuring and I felt listened to and validated. Every person from the triage nurse, registrar,RN that did all my bloodwork, and the doctor was kind and so efficient! Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

The adult inpatient program at Texas Health Behavioral Health provides 24-hour monitoring, treatment, and stabilization for adults with acute behavioral health conditions in a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Patients are housed in facilities created just for them, which foster personalized attention for each patient. Customized treatment plans address next steps and ongoing recovery needs and are unique to each individual patient. Adolescents need care tailored for them and their unique needs. The Texas Health Behavioral Health programs for adolescents address the growing needs of behavioral and mental health care for adolescents with psychiatric conditions, or with behavioral or emotional difficulties. Care plans are tailored to the individual’s unique needs and are offered in a variety of settings. Specializing in adolescents ages 12 to 17, the inpatient adolescent program provides crisis stabilization and symptom reduction in a safe, structured environment.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

The Texas Health Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Programs are for individuals needing a structured therapy program that offers counseling and education in a group setting. Clinicians work with physicians on the medical staff to provide daily support and a safe place to talk, learn problem-solving skills and practice stress-reduction techniques. Texas Health Behavioral Health also offers the following Specialized Intensive Outpatient Programs: Women, young adult and working professionals.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

For adults struggling with substance abuse and addiction, going through the detox process in a center equipped to provide for their specialized needs is key. Texas Health Behavioral Health utilizes evidence-based care to help patients take the first step in overcoming addiction. Inpatient adult detoxification provides a medically safe and emotionally supported detox led by specially trained physicians on the staff at Texas Health Behavioral Health facilities.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

What you eat has a significant effect on your mental and physical health. That's why many addiction recovery programs in Texas incorporate nutrition therapy in their treatment. This therapy teaches you how addiction affects nutrition, what foods are best to eat during recovery, and how to shop for and prepare healthy meals.

Experiential therapy in Texas can look different for each person. You may engage in fitness activities, community service, culinary arts, or art therapy, for example. The goal is to provide a safe setting where you can interact with your environment and work through emotions and experiences with the help of that activity and the guidance of a therapist.

When used as recommended, nicotine replacement therapy in Texas provides enough nicotine to help you avoid severe cravings and withdrawal symptoms after quitting smoking. This increases comfort so you're less likely to relapse into your smoking habit.

I went up there yesterday for my kids xrays that we were told we could walk in. I went to take my kids and the lady at the front desk asked us for paperwork. I have never had to bring paperwork for anything like this before. She was going to see if she could look them up but then asked us to come back today because they had no wifi to look them up. I called to verify everything was good to be able to go back up there again today so I wouldn't be wasting my time again and was told this hours have changed due to their last patience being scheduled at 3:30. Instead of them closing at 5 like yesterday, today they will be closing at 4. How would anyone know when they really close unless you call and find out the hours for the day.

Ok! Now that I am retired I can freely speak out. STAY AWAY! If you are sick go to a real hospital. Most you can get here is for them to con you into being admitted to only a THR facility. If you use Baylor or a non THR facility they will not refer you to that facility unless you specifically ask. They make their money by the referral and will find my reason to send you for a overnight and a big bill to the hospital. I WOULD NOT AND WILL NOT Bring my family here unless they are dead or at the very end of being dead.

I come here atleast once a year but this most recent visit was horrible. I am also including the Texas Hugley message in here too. At both Texas health ERs only good experience was a quick check in and fast response. Bad experience is I informed them of my symptoms and they checked the marks on my spine and chest. They classified it as "Bug Bites" and felt rushed to get me out. The nurse assisting felt concerned and didn't feel comfortable letting me go yet but did anyways. This 1st experience was at the Joshua/Burleson ER. Dr. Benjamin Nyguen didnt take it seriously and let me go. I ended up going to 2 more ER's. The 2nd ER was at the Texas Hugley in Fort worth and The reception checked me in and automatically called it as "Shingles" and put it in my case to rush me back. I thought I found answers but once Dr. Jocelyn Cheng-Ning Ku or Jocelyn Walczak went back to look at me, she also claimed it as "Bug Bites". When we questioned her, ego was hurt because she said "I know what Bug Bites look like" and when we asked what tests we can do to figure this out. She said "what do you want me to look for, what tests do you want me to do" I figured as her job and oath to take care of the patient she failed. She ended up letting us go as well. Long story short I went to a 3rd ER which Is Baylor far better experience and felt heard and safe. They ended up confirming I had Shingles with Viral Meningitis. It got to the point where I couldn't move my neck. Thankfully Baylor got me taken care of and I spent 5 days in their hospital. So in the end the Receptionist on 06/20/2025 at 9pm that Friday was correct. She called it and was right about my Shingles. The 2 doctors listed above failed. So I would avoid those two if possible since they clearly don't have the patience. Please provide a better service and investigate the problem. Thanks

Was there maybe an hour. The intake nurse was somewhat off putting. Almost as if maybe she was annoyed that I came in w/a rash all over my body that had continued to get worse & worse, and we'd tried EVERYTHING OTC(like 12-15 creams & sprays) I couldn't sleep and I knew I needed some relief. At first the doctor seems to care, did blood & IV, gave me the typical rash/allergy meds, helped a little, but did absolutely nothing for the itch & just pure pain, burning, welps busting, hot to the touch. They took 3 vial of blood, sent them to the lab & within 20ish minutes at most the doctor comes in and said. Everything looks good, a little anemia (Yes I'm Anemic). They take the iv out & send me packing. WHAT BOUT THE FACT THAT MY BLOOD PRESSURE STAYED VERY HIGH. ESPECIALLY FOR ME (Stayed at 155/121) & my pulse was staying very low especially for me. It was in the low to mid 50's. It even at one point was at like 46-48 & the machine kept beeping at the nurse and staff. When both my husband and I asked about it & explained that was in NO WAY NORMAL for me at all. She said it was likely from my rash, pain, itch, etc. UMMMM....NO MA'AM. My pulse would have been higher. It was obvious that NOBODY informed the doctor, bc he never said a word about it. He didn't care, & even tried to gaslight me that the rash all over my body was looking better. REALLY!!! It is very rare & is actually considered and emergency if you come to the ER w/ high blood pressure & an abnormally low heart rate. They also fudged my discharge paperwork, bc it say my pulse was 97! WTH!!! It was never ever, ever that high & never went over 60. So, I think a call or complaint to Texas Mexical Board may be in the near future. Yes, I presented there about a rash that was driving me absolutely insane, so how bout we also pay attention to ALL the symptoms the patient is presenting with & do ur job. In fact as she was taking my IV out after 30 minutes of having it in. My husband & I both looked at the monitor beeping & my blood pressure was 156/81 & pulse was 58! The nurse although she was great, just brushed it off. We even mentioned that it seemed off, & wasn't normal for me. Previous visits with our son & me last year after a car wreck had me thinking they'd be good again. NOPE!!!

Took my son in for an allergic reaction and was told it was the croup. He had no fever and had not been sick. All the test came back negative. But was still diagnosed with the croup. The doctor told me that he didn't believe it was an allergic reaction. Took my son to an allergist to get tested and my son does in fact have a tree nut allergy. I will say though that the student doctor and the nurses were great with my son.

I'm sitting in the waiting room listening to everything going on around me. The receptionist, Kimberly, is the sweetest. I am so impressed with how gentle and patient she is with everyone checking in. All smiles and greets everyone by name. The kindness she's shown to the elderly coming in really made me notice how long it's been since I've seen someone go above just doing their job. Great job, Kimberly! We need more like you!
