About Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington

The Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington is CARF and CIHQ accredited. They’re an inpatient rehabilitation hospital with 40 beds. The hospital will not release specific information concerning your treatment, including that you have a condition due to substance use. They’re accredited by CARF and The Joint Commission.

Specialty Treatments for Ailments/Injuries

The hospital treats and rehabilitates patients who have had a stroke, a brain injury, a spinal cord injury, an orthopedic injury, cardiovascular or pulmonary issues, neurological conditions, an amputation, or trauma. Although substance use can lead to any of these diagnoses either from using the substance or an injury while using the substance, brain and neurological issues are imminent for long term users.

Conditions Caused by Opioid Use

Brain conditions known to be caused by opioid use include hypoxic or anoxic encephalopathy and lack of oxygen to the brain due to respiratory suppression, which is similar to a traumatic brain injury. Neurological damage includes opioid induced neurotoxicity.

Conditions Caused by Alcohol Use

Brain conditions known to be caused by alcohol use includes brain lesions called hyaline arteriolosclerosis which affect memory and thinking. Neurological conditions caused by drinking include peripheral neuropathy, neurotransmitter dysfunction, and Wernicke-Korsakoff Encephalopathy.

Brain Injury Treatment

The brain injury specialty program involves therapy and structured rehabilitation. Physical therapy focuses on core stabilization and balance while occupational therapy focuses on feeding, bathing, and other self care functions. Speech therapy focuses on speech, memory, and self awareness. Your family will be educated about the expected path of your condition, how to help you, and how to care for themselves.

This way you’ll feel healthier and be better able to cope with stress and challenges. It helps that there’s plenty of floor space for fellowship and socializing with your peers to build up your own network.

Clients receive therapy and psychosocial support while your family or caregiver is educated about your condition. You’ll likely need to continue with outpatient rehabilitation after you are released from inpatient treatment. It’s neat that the facility has lots of natural accents and an earth tone color scheme. It’s conducive to healing and can re-connect you back with nature. Speaking of which, Gateway Park is across the street.

My dad went here several times before he passed about 7 years ago. We had such a great experience, that when my mother-in-law needed rehab these last two weeks, we chose this place for her. It did not disappoint. Everyone on staff in this place is exceptional. The physical and occupational therapy she got there worked miracles for her. Justin and Edwin were just incredible, and she wanted me to make sure I mentioned them here. All the nurses were great as well, but there were too many to name. Won't hesitate to recommend to anyone that ask. God bless them.

Overall I would NOT recommend this place. Physical therapy and a few nurses were good but they just seemed constantly understaffed to give adequate care. Everyone was always so busy and we felt like he was just left to be incontinent because he wasn't helped. Dad was going through a transition and due to an untreated UTI, was really confused. If I hadn't noticed the the high fever and requested vital signs and a doctor, I'm not sure anyone would have caught it. It seemed like when we weren't there, they just didn't check on him. We found him soaked in urine every time we came in. They stripped his dignity and we couldn't get him out fast enough. When he was finally transferred to assisted living, where we were to meet him, they sent him in little more than a diaper. It was appalling. He is thriving now that he is out of there. It was a horrible experience and nightmare for our family. Just awful...

Belissa was my nurse my first full day and she was the most thoughtful, caring, sweet and knowledgeable nurse I’ve ever had. She made my stay comfy and pleasurable. Also shoutout to the therapy team especially Larry. They’re amazing!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

After completing some form of inpatient care, many clients transition or step down to an outpatient rehab, while some choose to transition from detox directly into outpatient care. High-intensity outpatient programming, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) is widely available for clients in early recovery, those leaving detox, and those at an elevated relapse risk. Clients in outpatient care generally engage in robust addiction counseling and recovery education, and some also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.

We cant say enough about how wonderful everyone has been. My mom has been here for 9 days. Every person- her Physician, Case Manager, Nurse, CNA, PT, OT and ST have been incredibly kind and attentive. We have not had any concerns about leaving her overnight without someone in the family staying with her. It has been very clear from day one that all her needs would be met. We went from a family member staying with her 24/7 at the hospital to feeling comfortable leaving her at TX Rehab on her own with family visits. She came with minimal mobility and no energy. She is leaving today with energy, able to walk and more independence than she has had in months . Also, she LOVED all her meals, which says a lot because she is a picky eater. We cannot say enough good things about TX Rehab in Arlington. Everyone has been so nice! They turned a challenging experience for my mom and our family into a really positive one.

My stay in the hospital was fantastic. Let's start with the nursing staff. All the nurses assigned to care for me were excellent. They treat their patients with respect and dignity. I saw this firsthand daily. My situation was a knee replacement, but the other patients in the hospital required more attention than I did, and they showed and demonstrated these qualities. The Physical and Occupational Therapy staff showed care and patience with each person while working hard to rehabilitate them and give them a chance at an active life. Now we can discuss the food served at the facility. The meals for a person on a regular diet were excellent. The variety and portions of food were perfect, no complaints. Overall, I would recommend this hospital to anyone looking for a this type of facility in the DFW Metroplex area.
