I am shocked at the poor care and bad doctors that you get from time to time at United Hospital Center, Bridgeport WV. I don't know who the director of this hospital is but he/she needs to be replaced IMMEDIATELY!! The lack of care and terrible attention to illness and being complicit in so many aspects is alarming. Every hospital should be on top of their game with excellent doctors but this place just seems like they don't care and they don't know what they're doing I actually heard one of the doctors using the F word in the hallway with the other staff members and then my wife had our sundown there the other day who was really sick fever the whole nine yards and they sent my wife and kid home with no help and said he was undiagnosable and told her to give him rest & water. So I took him down to another place called community Care in Clarksburg who looked him over and found him to have a bad case of strep throat and gave him antibiotics and some other allergy stuff to dry up the mounds of snot coming from his nose. My son suffered for 2 extra days because of UHC! GET A NEW DIRECTOR & QUALITY DOCTORS WHO LOVE THIS WORK

This review is apparently getting seen a lot, so I just want to make it abundantly clear how incompetent, unprofessional, and unethical the ER staff are at United, especially the nurses. My fiance came in with a fever, vomiting, chills, and was told he was faking it by one of the nurses there and not just that - the "educated and compassionate" professional who was working with him came into the room coldly, flipped on the lights, and then accused him of faking it. He had a severe case of strep throat which was determined THE FOLLOWING DAY WHEN HE HAD TO COME BACK. Also since the ER staff are apparently not educated enough to know this: if a new mother whose baby was in the NICU comes in for suicidial ideation because they feel like it was their fault the baby was in the NICU in the first place, maybe do something other than being obnoxiously loud at night since the persons door has to remain open? And since it was clearly evidenced that the child was not in danger since my sister came and got her at 2am and I indicated that I wanted to hurt myself, not my child, maybe we don't call CPS. I lost my baby girl for nearly three months because the nurses here apparently just don't care, or don't bother to take the time, effort, and compassion to better understand ethical and person centered mental health treatment. If you're a staff member who works in the ER there, do better. This is disgraceful.

Accepted Insurance

United Hospital Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs support clients' long-term recovery through a robust continuum of care aligned with clients' evolving needs. Many programs feature transitional services for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient care. Ambulatory medical detox is also available in some outpatient facilities for clients at low risk for withdrawal complications. Outpatient treatment centers typically encompass multiple levels of care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), supportive housing, and standard outpatient programming.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients in addiction recovery often transition from inpatient rehab to intensive outpatient programs (IOP) to promote their successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. These programs provide high-level support for clients in early recovery and those at an increased relapse risk, offering between nine and 20 hours of treatment per week on average. Intensive outpatient treatment typically involves a range of therapeutic approaches, including psychotherapy, recovery education, holistic treatments, such as acupuncture, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) for alcohol and/or opioid dependency.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

If you have become physically dependent on drugs or alcohol, quitting abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, headaches, flu-like symptoms, and more. In severe cases, these withdrawal symptoms can even be dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed professionals will monitor your vitals, provide medication if needed, and help keep you as safe and comfortable as possible during this process.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

This hospital has helped the city on many occasions because it is one of the best-prepared staff. My problem was when I realized that mental health is not seen as very important.

UHC is one of the best hospital I've been to the Staff and Doctors were very helpful and nice. The ICU took care of me after having a heart attack and took the time to get my pills straightened out. My stay on the 7th floor was wonderful the nurses and PCAs were great very nice. Over all 10/10 couldn't of ask for a better hospital.

My husband was transferred to this hospital. The ICU staff we're awesome. Wonderful service and care. Later he got admitted to the med-surge floor. Nobody has checked on him for hours, no water, no nothing, no prove of life. We've just been quarantined in a room. Just waiting to get discharged papers. This is by far the worst experience every.

The staff and facilities were amazing during my emergency room visit and stay at WV United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. I could not have asked for better care. The staff was truly concerned with my well-being, making sure I had what I needed to recover. The facilities were very clean and the food was good. The pharmacy on site was extremely convenient. I highly recommend this hospital.

Sunday, June 29 my mother had a horrible fall. She was sent by ambulance to the ER at Uhc Hospital. We honestly believe that they kept her stable for the flight to Ruby Hospital. The nurse Kim was amazing. The whole staff was on top of her taking care of her needs We cannot thank Uhc’s emergency room department And staff enough thank you and God bless you all for what you do!!!

Really poor quality of healthcare. I ended up inpatient and had an incident where the nurse used the same needle to draw blood from different parts of my body. And she did not disinfect the spots prior to drawing. Worse off she didn't bandage it so I was bleeding all over the bed. Thank you to the RN who rushed in and helped me clean up the blood and bandage my sites up. She reported the situation promptly and was a huge help. Unfortunately, this isn't the only bad situation I've had. Too many risks at this facility between HIPAA violations, contamination risks and danger of spreading bloodborne pathogens. I work in healthcare myself, and I wouldn't send anyone there.
