Academy Programs... where to start...
Are you looking for a job where you will have great benefits, stable working hours, a safe working environment, and be treated like part of a team? Then run, don't walk as far away from this establishment as you can... I am writing this under an alias as I do worry about backlash from former staff and administration. I worked here for over a year and was very optimistic and looking forward to helping troubled youths get back to their homes and families and left here feeling defeated, physically injured, and made to feel like all the work and effort put in was for nothing. The job, at least at the time of my employment, was severely under-staffed and left staff and clients alike in a very unsafe environment. Multiple fist fights, restraints, and threats were the constant in the boys and often times girls groups, and with very little staffing you were often on your own with one partner who, due to high turnover rates, was often not experienced or trained well enough to help prevent more dangerous situations from occurring. On the subject of high turn over, staff is often mandated to stay long, unscheduled, back to back 16 hours shifts due to call-offs, people quitting, and Team Leaders being either unwilling or unable to cover the needed shifts. On to the subject of Team Leaders, there is a mentality of most, not all, of the Team Leaders who have been there for a long time that they are above the TCs and therefore have a sense of higher worth. There were multiple occurrences where we would be told to "run your group and you have control" only for a Team Leader to enter the cottages and override and undermine the rules and expectations set for the day that the two overworked and understaffed TCs had set. Team leaders and higher administration often would belittle and make us TCs feel as if it were our fault a situation had happened. The clients also saw this and would weaponize it in order to sow chaos into the groups and cause a division in staffing at times. Administration has the "Bad Girls Club" group mindset and if you aren't part of them you are against them and will shift responsibility from themselves to the TCs to avoid issues with DHHR or the justice system. I could spend more time on this review and provide more examples of why this facility is a job I would never send my worst enemy too, but it is already long winded as it is. To sum it up, do not apply to work here. The few staff that truly care about and want the kids and other staff to succeed is few and far between and overworked to the point of exhaustion and are forced into unsafe situations without the needed support and tools to succeed.
