These people saved me! From the doctors, nurses, and counselors. To even the office manager and receptionist. These people really care! They don’t treat you like less of a person because of your “situation” they are respectful and professional. Honestly, if more treatment centers would follow the lead of this one. I probably would have gotten help 10 years ago. If you are 110 percent serious about getting help. And you choose to go the maintenance route. This is the place! I never would have made it if the staff wasn’t as supportive as they are. So thank you to everyone there! They listened to me when absolutely no body else would! They didn’t judge me when absolutely everyone else did! they were kind to me, when no one else was! And they had faith in me, when even I had no faith in myself!
I read through the reviews, and I can assure you. Do not base your opinion of this place by the bad ones. If you are truly ready to make a change in your life. I promise, these folks will help you with being successful!

Charleston, WV | Prestera Center - Charleston is a dual diagnosis mental health and substance use disorder treatment center for adults, located in Charleston, West Virginia. The center’s services also include case management and community referrals. Addiction services at Prestera Center include mental health assessments and counseling, detox, outpatient addiction | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I’ve been coming to Prestera since it was Shawnee Hills back in the 90’s. It’s changed a lot over the years, but now in 2026 I come to Prestera Health Services for therapy and now they’re like, “hey, want a primary care provider too?”
At this point I’m convinced they’re trying to fix all of me and honestly… I respect the ambition 😂
The therapists are amazing though. They’ll sit there all calm while I’m explaining my life like it’s a dramatic series, and then hit me with one question that has me rethinking everything on the drive home like, “well… that was personal.”
And now with PCP services?? So I can talk about my feelings and get my blood pressure checked in the same place? Efficient. Convenient. Slightly suspicious how well they understand my needs.
Staff is super kind, super patient, and somehow still nice even when I say things like “I think I’m fine now” after one good day.
10/10 would recommend. Came for therapy, stayed because they’re low-key helping me get my life together in every category.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve had a few bad experience at CAMC General in the past. But I also want to be the first to say that this past Monday morning, I had one of the best experiences I’ve ever had there.
From the EMTs to the doctor and nurses, everyone was truly exceptional. Dr. Hunter was amazing (especially for an ER doctor) and made a stressful situation much easier to handle just by listening fully. The nurses I encountered from beginning to end were all wonderful. Even the travel nurses were excellent.
The nurse who cared for me at the very end, I wish I could remember her name stood out the most. She was incredibly caring, approachable, and truly understood what I was going through.
I also can’t forget the CT scan techs. When I became very sick during the scan, they were incredibly understanding and supportive, which made it less embarrassing.
That alone made a huge difference.
I know the ER can get busy and that they have many patients to care for, but the staff made sure to keep me informed every step of the way. That meant more than I can express and helped me feel at ease during a difficult time.
I hope all of them see this review. You all were amazing.
Thank you, Tonya

Charleston is the 128th most expensive city nationwide for addiction treatment affordability, with an average cost of addiction treatment of $57641. This is comparable to the average cost of $57881 for addiction treatment in West Virginia and comparable to the national average cost for drug rehab of $57,193.
The costs of drug and alcohol rehab in Charleston vary widely and depend on several factors, including:
The costs of addiction treatment listed for cities and states are averages based on the cost of medical detox, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, and medication assisted treatment. These averages are high due to the cost of medical detoxification and residential inpatient rehab programs.
These numbers also reflect the raw cost of drug rehab, before any insurance coverage. The typical individual seeking addiction treatment can expect to pay much less for outpatient or intensive outpatient services than the averages listed below. There are many ways to pay for drug rehab in Charleston. Most rehab treatment centers accept cash or self-payment, as well as private health insurance. However, there are many treatment centers in Charleston that accept Medicaid and Medicare, or offer sliding scale payments or other low-cost payment options. Here's the complete breakdown of how to pay for addiction treatment near Charleston.
Aetna is the most widely-accepted insurance for drug rehabs in Charleston, with 8 treatment centers in the city accepting their insurance. Blue Cross Blue Shield is the 2nd most popular with 8 treatment centers accepting it followed by UnitedHealth Group in 3rd accepted by 8 drug rehabs.
Charleston has the 249th highest rate of drug use nationwide among nearly 400 cities surveyed. This number reflects the combined use of cocaine, heroin, meth, and marijuana, displayed individually below. The percent shown for each drug represents the number of residents in Kanawha county that have reported ever using the following drugs, so these numbers should not be interpreted as direct evidence of current drug use in Charleston or Kanawha county as a whole.
In 2023, Charleston had the 84th highest number narcotics violations out of 330 cities nationwide, with a total of 871 reported drug-related incidents that year. This includes cases of public intoxication, drug arrests, narcotics found during house calls and traffic stops, and any other drug-related crime.
Keep in mind these numbers are dependent on accurate record keeping and reporting laws by local police and sheriffs, and may not fully reflect all drug related crime in Charleston. All values are per 100,000 population.
