About Community Medical Services—7th Avenue

Community Medical Services – 7th Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona, provides treatment and compassionate care for people with an opioid use disorder. They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT), counseling and support services.

Their 7th Avenue clinic is located across from Sprouts Farmers Market behind Mi Patio Mexican. There is onsite parking, and you can also get to this facility via public transit. The closest bus stop is on the number 8 bus line.

Community Medical Services accepts many forms of health insurance like American Indian Health Plan, Medicaid, United, Humana and Pascua Yaqui Tribe. They also take self-pay clients.

MAT to Suit your Lifestyle

There are several FDA-approved medications to treat opioid addictions. I like that this clinic provides Suboxone, methadone and naltrexone. Your recovery specialist at Community Medical Services will talk to you about the different options so that together you can choose the right medication for your needs.

Professional and Peer Support

I like that they offer individual and group counseling sessions for patients. In these sessions, you’ll learn how to choose healthier strategies to deal with triggers as well as heal past trauma. Counselors use proven strategies and techniques to help you progress on your recovery journey.

In addition to this, they offer peer supporters. These specialists are people who also have experience living with addiction. They give you their unique perspective on how to overcome challenges during recovery. These peer recovery specialists can take part in support groups, run community outreach and education programs, work in hospitals and corrections units and partner with local emergency teams.

Miss the old staff up front. The new staff aren't very friendly at all and just look at you like a number. No friendliness whatsoever. Saturday when there was an issue with the safe the front desk girl wouldn't even tell us what was going on. Just that "they're still setting up" even after two hours of being open. Just no emotions or smiles. Used to love coming here. I miss Celena for sure. I adore my counselor. Front desk needs nicer staff. If you don't like your job don't be there. Seems very tense and clicky.

Their staff is a joke, they purposely do things, even the smallest of things, to clients/patients to disrespect, upset, cause frustration for them, and then if you verbalize your frustration about their staff/employees BS, they place you on a contract then immediately following that they do it even worse so they can discharge you or transfer you. I arrived 9 minutes before lunch break the other day and only 4 ppl were in queue and I asked to get in it before lunch and they denied me to make me wait 30 more minutes which was what made me late to a job interview..so much for assisting people who are in recovery

Accepted Insurance

Community Medical Services—7th Avenue works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Staff is nice. There’s 5 windows to get medicine and most times only one or two nurses are at the windows. Takes 20 min + to get called back. The room gets full of people and crowded. They need to work on getting nurses at the windows and people in and out. Everyone gets frustrated having to wait with one nurse working. Bathrooms could also be cleaned more often as the floors are sticky with urine. Edit to two stars. This place needs new management. One nurse at the window with 30 people waiting. This is unacceptable. It makes people want to use instead of getting sober. Counselors try pushing you off on other people and won’t see you for months. The expected wait time to see a nurse is about 30+ min. Everyone is squeezed in the room close to eat other sick, coughing, sneezing. People bring their dogs in and dogs pee on the floor and no one cleans it up. This place is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
