About FMTC – Fairfax Methadone Treatment Center

Annandale is located just 30 minutes from D.C. It is a great place for opioid treatment thanks to its accessible healthcare resources and strong community support networks. Many clients say smaller clinics like this one offer a more personal and compassionate approach to care. FMTC provides a welcome alternative to the overwhelming and impersonal experience of big-city clinics.

When someone needs help with opioid use, experience really matters. The location in Annandale has been helping people with medication assisted treatment (MAT) since 1992. They’ve helped thousands of clients overcome addiction, many with challenges similar to yours. Most clients have found that getting treatment here is easy and completely confidential. Federal regulations prohibit them from sharing any information about treatment without your written permission.

It’s not unusual to worry about paying for treatment but they try to make things less overwhelming for clients. Treatment costs here are generally much lower than inpatient or other private outpatient programs in the Annandale area. The business office can provide information about fees and insurance claims. They may also work with local agencies to offer short term financial help for clients who qualify.

In the MAT program here, they use methadone. Methadone therapy can be a good option, whether you need detox or long term maintenance. Detox programs can last 30 days to six months. Long term maintenance offers ongoing recovery support. Treatment is personalized based on your unique needs.

Methadone is an important part of treatment but it’s only a small part of recovery. The right individual and group counseling can make a big difference in how successful you are in recovery. Even if it feels intimidating at first, the caring staff here works hard to create a space for clients to work through challenges.

After detox and methadone therapy, clients can continue recovery with free AfterCare counseling. There’s no time limit to AfterCare but they do require regular drug screenings. Screenings can feel like an extra step but they’re there to support your recovery and keep you focused on living drug-free.

This facility (the new owners) were missing inventory of this controlled substance for nearly an entire week and never noticed. I’ve been coming here for nearly 4 years now. I previously put a 5 star review because although there’s issues (nothing in life is ever perfect) I considered them a reliable place for my medication. Sometimes certain things can move a bit slow and I’d recommend to seek the bulk of your counseling and groups elsewhere because they can often become understaffed due to their high employee turnover rate. In my opinion, once you’re there for a few months, things start to run pretty smoothly overall. Especially when you qualify and get approved for take home medication. A consistent, reliable schedule is important for our recovery journey. I’ve been uneasy about the new owners that apparently bought this place months ago. You’ll rarely (if ever) get in & out within 5-10min anymore and the safe with our meds is often unlocked & open now. No matter what mistakes were made in the past, they were never unorganized with our medication before. I went to pick up my take home prescription today but my entire prescription was mishandled/misplaced/lost. Out of the many complaints I’d hear from other patients (which were mostly self inflicted but nobody likes to admit fault) I’ve never heard of totally missing prescriptions. I’ve had this same, exact prescription for over 2 years. This incident is really troubling because out of all things to worry about, now I need to worry that they randomly might not even have my medication when I come. They told me they’ll try their best to “rectify” the situation but I highly doubt it. I’m pretty sure I’ll just need to have a stressful week and try my best to shift around my life and work schedule. The pharmacist normally comes once a week on a specific day. I highly doubt they’ll actually remake my current prescription and bring it in earlier so that they can rectify their very odd mistake. If they do, I’ll update my review. If there’s no update then I’m sadly correct about what they’re going to do.

I’ve been going here for a while. It just got bought out by a new company. My only advice is if you’re going here please be very careful. I would not go in without a mask. If anyone has Covid. They tell you to come in with a mask and when you go to dose you have to take your mask off. I just got Covid three days ago from sitting next to someone that was wearing a mask. I did not know they had Covid and I was in line behind her well now I have Covid. My mother has Covid who is 85 years old, so please be very very careful. This policy is crazy And that place is so hot. There’s no AC in there so it’s like breeding Covid inside. They used to bring it out to you. I guess now the new company does it differently. If I knew this. I would always wear a mask. I have an elderly and young kids at my house. This is so sad.

Going here is just switching from your illegal drug dealer to a legal drug dealer, they aren't there to help you only make us much money off you as possible. The doctor doesn't care whether he is lowering your medication the proper way or not.

Accepted Insurance

FMTC – Fairfax Methadone Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Clients who are in early recovery, leaving detox, or experiencing a crisis often require the intensive treatment of an inpatient rehab facility. Clients in inpatient care receive robust clinical supervision, housing, and meals, allowing them to focus exclusively on their recovery while they stabilize. The primary treatment modalities used in most inpatient centers include extensive addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many drug rehabs also offer holistic therapies, such as music, art, fitness, and experiential therapies.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.

12-step icon12-Step

Once involved in a 12 step recovery program, clients can commit to a model of life-long recovery rooted in spiritual growth and intensive peer support. 12 step meetings are anonymous, peer-led, free, and accessible day and night, year-round, in most communities. Self-selected sponsors provide one-on-one coaching as participants work through the steps of recovery. These steps are based on spiritual principles used to address the origins of the addiction and to encourage self-compassion, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

A sober living home in Vermont offers a balance between monitored structure and living in mainstream society. No alcohol or drugs are allowed on the premises, and residents must participate in 12-step meetings. Residents of the halfway house also agree to submit to random drug screenings, pay rent, and participate in household activities such as meetings, meals, and chores.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in Virginia requires careful planning and execution. Due to complex family dynamics, intervention services are often necessary to help families successfully navigate the process. An intervention specialist can help family members plan what they will say and then facilitate the conversation. This expert also educates everyone involved about addiction, enabling behaviors, and treatment options.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Virginia features a highly trained team of professionals to treat your physical, mental, and emotional needs. Doctors and nurses are available to prescribe and administer medications. Psychologists and counselors provide professional counseling. Other experts such as nutritionists and addiction specialists may also offer support. This 24/7, comprehensive care is designed to give you the support you need to begin a successful recovery.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Virginia is a short term form of talk therapy. Participants usually have homework between sessions, which may include journaling, self talk, and setting SMART goals. The aim is to transform negative thought patterns into positive ones.

For those experiencing mental health challenges, including substance use disorder, dialectical behavior therapy in Virginia offers an evidence based method of treatment. This therapy teaches skills for emotional regulation and interpersonal relations so you can break free from negative patterns.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Men and women in Virginia use individual therapy to focus on addiction related challenges as a necessary part of their drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Your therapist guides you in developing coping strategies, setting realistic goals, and building a strong foundation for an improved quality of life.

Motivational interviewing in Virginia allows clients to examine their lives and consider their options. It is particularly useful if the client lacks confidence in their ability to change or is feeling uncertain about their desire to change.

Trauma therapy helps you understand and manage the emotional and physical responses that often follow witnessing or experiencing traumatic events. Using therapeutic interventions, your therapist works with you to reframe that experience, which in turn reduces your anxiety and helps you regain control over your life.

Family therapists work with all members of the family to understand the roles they play in the addiction dynamic. Addressing these patterns is crucial to developing healthier ways to interact and support each other, as well as contributing to a more effective recovery for their loved ones.

If you've experienced addiction, you may have lost the skills to self manage and adapt to change. Because these basic life skills are crucial for recovery, drug rehab programs typically include life skills training as an integral part of treatment.

Condescending people, the atmosphere was so toxic that the staff had a high turnover rate, that coming and going made the patient feel abandoned.

I came to Annandale Comprehensive Treatment from another clinic and my transfer was smooth sailing. I have currently been at this location for 6 months. My experience has been great. All of the staff are extremely kind and welcoming. I was amazed to find out the clinic was owned by the same company I had just left, (bc of a move) and in the process of changing over. I can imagine that the transition could be extremely stressful. My experience was the transition has been a fairly seamless one. I think the new company is doing great and everyone has worked together to make a great MAT facility. This clinic has only improved since I've been here. Although it's a very small clinic there is never a wait, I am in and out quickly. My counselor is wondeful and does not have the "treatment burnout," that often happens in MAT settings. All of the counselors are extremely helpful. If you follow the simple rules, this clinic will work for you. I must mention before closing that the front desk ladies are the best!! They decorate the office according to the seasons. It is so welcoming and absolutely the cutest! The fact that they care about a welcoming environment is huge. It's the difference from feeling like you are being punished for making the choices that got you there and people actually caring about your well-being and not treating you like a criminal. Having someone smile and ask you how you are doing is absolutely wonderful. Thanks to everyone that makes this place work. If you are considering going to Annandale Comprehensive treatment, go. If you are serious about getting clean, you will have great people behind you, supporting you and helping as much as possible.

Starting at Annandale CTC has been instrumental in my recovery journey. Everyone that works there is so kind, friendly, and non-judgmental. Also shoutout to the cute front desk girl for putting a smile on my face every morning!

I have been going here for almost a year now, I went through the change to new owners which was rocky , but overall, this place has been nothing but helpful to me. I can tell you from personal experience that the clinic in Manassas, which is the only other clinic in northern Virginia that gives out methadone is very unorganized & understaffed and I’m just really glad that I was able to get into the Annandale clinic. They have a new front desk receptionist named Chelsea and she has Gone above and beyond to make all of the patients feel seen and that’s really special and helpful for somebody Who is in Recovery. Seeing a consistent smiling face every morning who took the time out to learn your name and address you by it really does go a long way in starting your day out in the best way you possibly can .. I had Miss Kim as my counselor and she was Amazing, I am really sad that she is now gone, but I’m sure the management team will do a great job of replacing her, as they have filled the rolls they have needed very well in the past . It seems to be running very smoothly for the past 3-4 months now I have no complaints

This is an institution that should NOT be allowed to exist. Its a hazard to the surrounding community and creates new drug use patterns once the people attending the clinic begin to pair up and help each other beat the tests that are given while still using. That's not to mention the fact that Methadone itself is a terribly toxic and dangerous thing to ingest, and you become chained to this place just like a heroin addict to their dealer. Its a real tragedy that people feel this is harm reduction instead of only routing people to proper rehab and detox facilities. The councilors are often at their fist job and while this may have changed they are woefully unprepared to handle the people that end up here. I feel truly sorry for anyone who is attending this clinic, and I wish them all the best in their journey towards hopefully freeing themselves from the daily or weekly trips to pick up their heroin alternative.

So the only thing bad I will say is they can’t dose you coming in off the street for the first time I transfered from Genesis Fredrick Maryland, because FMTC accepted my insurance so I wouldn’t have to pay out of pocket anymore (could be pricey) and they actually dose you first day of treatment so atleast you don’t have to be sick, and leave the clinic feeling hopeful ,but once the ball gets rolling FMTC is a ok place to be. The staff is able to get things done in a timely fashion. They recently had a big turnaround of staff and lost some good counselors to another clinic , but they are starting to get things back in order. I highly recommend this place if you are willing to do the work this program will work for you. Keep the faith you got this! You just have to take the first step I’m 5 years clean and opiates ran me for 17 years and let me tell you I don’t think about opiates anymore hope this helps
