A few short years ago I sat next to my brother 3 separate times in the hospital as he struggled to survive his latest suicide attempt or drug overdose. He tried to get clean, but were unsuccessful with 3 different programs in south FL. I called around to my family and friends and told them he needed to get out of Fl. I knew where his path would lead if he didn’t have a complete environmental change. A safe place to retreat. That’s when my cousin found Freedom Farm Ministries. I can honestly say having a place like Freedom Farm who made it so easy to get my brother in made all the difference. Through the leadership there, and by God's grace my brother is now thriving.

Level of Care:

Religious Programs:

Religion used during treatment means a specific religion is used as the basis for care and treatment at a specific rehab facility or support group. Whether that faith is Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, or another religion, it is the central guiding principle behind the care. Counselors, support materials (like books or workbooks), and peers use that faith to support patients in finding their way to recovery. Surrendering to a higher power can be a relief to many patients, and religion can help those in recovery realize they're worthy or love and forgiveness. Connecting with their religion can provide patients a strong foundation for addiction recovery, and inspire comfort, support, and guidance in a deep, meaningful way.

The Safe House provides immediate safety and assistance in getting ready for a Christian recovery program. The program includes daily Bible study and devotions, nutritious meals, and fellowship with other men in similar circumstances. Weekly counseling by trained spiritual counselors is provided. Christian Recovery Center (Restoration House) – two sites serve six to eight men for a 40-day intensive recovery program. After completing Safe House, men at Restoration House are involved in Biblical studies, working through five specially designed workbooks which help men “go deep” to search and deal with underlying conditions preventing them from true freedom in Christ. Men who attend Restoration House are expected to complete DLC for a year’s discipleship program. Pastors lead group studies and provide individual counseling weekly.

Sober Living Homes:

Founded in 2006, the Discipleship Living Center (DLC) is a residential center for those who have completed a Christian recovery program and have a genuine desire to continue to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, through accountability within a structured residential setting, while being employed in the community. Serving an average of seven men at each location, DLC is located near Boone for convenience in obtaining employment.

Treatment Focus:

Substance Abuse:

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Opioid Addiction:

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Therapy Programs:

Individual Therapy:

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Group Therapy:

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life Skills:

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy:

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
