About Guidepost DBT
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is a skills based therapy modality. You learn to find a good balance between change and acceptance. In the context of substance abuse, DBT helps you accept circumstances that you don’t have control over, while encouraging you to change behavior patterns that are harming you. It focuses on building your tolerance for discomfort through healthy coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills. Over time, you learn to handle stress without needing substances to cope.
Guidepost DBT also uses a method known as informed DBT. This uses most of the principles of typical DBT, but ignores the principles that aren’t helpful when treating substance use disorder. They tailor the method to meet you where you’re at and ensure treatment is as helpful as possible.
Typical DBT treatment is intended to last for a certain length of time. But if you’re experiencing addiction, treatment length can vary depending on your progress and stability.
