This place saved my life. The first time I came here, I was 12 years old. I was very scared but the staff were really nice and supportive. The program is really helpful, I'd recommend this place to any child who is struggling with mental health. They also have a program to treat ED's. I've been to the 3 East B adolscent psych unit multiple times, so I'm very familiar with everyone. The therapist Emilio, Megan, and Susanna were so nice to me, and a nurse named Chris. I spent 2 of my birthdays here, my 13th and my 14th. They made it a fun time even if we were in a hospital:) The patients I've been with were always really nice. Not much drama happens in this hospital. Thanks to this hospital, I am now happy in life, learning to cope with stressful situations. Thank you, Alta Bates.

READ THIS IF YOURE GOING HERE OR IF YOUR KID IS. I went here 2x for addiction when I was 15. I am 20 now, and I am still sober. Firstly, a lot of kids are now leaving reviews describing the no contact hold period as “traumatic and dehumanizing”. I was also extremely dramatic about the cell phone policies when I went there as a teen. If you are going here don’t be alarmed, this is standard procedure at all mental health facilities, including ones for adults. Part of it is to make sure you don’t use your phone privileges for bad reasons. My first stay here was bad because I was mad at my parents for sending me and I had no intention of getting sober. My second stay was voluntary and It was extremely beneficial. If you’re a teen and you’re going here, make the most out of it and just be positive, because the time will pass anyways. The staff here didn’t sugarcoat things or baby me, they treated me like I was an adult and told me the truth. This experience made me a lot more mature and helped put my drug addiction into perspective. I realized how it was impacting my family and where it could lead me. The school here was great, i was able to get a lot done. The time away from my phone ended up being nice. The nature surrounding the facility was beautiful. They took us on gorgeous hikes where we got to see baby cows and other animals. I returned to this area years later just to go on a hiking trip. There are a variety of kids there, I didn’t get along with a lot of them. But that’s just how it goes at mental health facilities, people with different backgrounds there for all different reasons. Years later i still talk to my friends from here often. Things have not been perfect for me since i’ve left, and if you’re sending your kid here don’t expect them to come out and be completely “cured”. But i will say that this facility showed me i can handle issues sober. It showed me that i can be a good friend and show up for other people. It showed me how much i love my family and how much they love me. It taught me how to be mature even when i didn’t want to at all. And most importantly, it taught me how looking at everything through a positive lens really can change an entire experience from a bad one to a good one. This place prepared me to handle issues like an adult. If you’re a teen and you’re going here, don’t be immature and rude to the staff. If you treat them with kindness and manners that will be reciprocated!! I loved the staff here and i think about them often. Don’t be mean to the other residents even if they are annoying and stupid, because every kid in here is going through the worst time of their life, even if you can’t understand it. Thank you muirwood, I wouldn’t be alive without this place. Now i can become a doctor to pay it forward.

Seeing as I am here on a weekly basis I felt it only a must that i write a review. As you walk through the main double doors and come to the front desk you will be met with nothing but the utmost respect and decency. The men and women that take position here are lovely individuals who genuinely care about your health and well being. No matter if you are a regular or if you are on vacation or just on your way though, I can guarantee they will do there absolute best to help you in what ever you current issue or situation may be. If they are unable to solve your issue do not fret they will not shy away from making you aware that your issue is best suited for the actual VA Hospital which lay just up the hill. You can sit back and relax but don't get too comfortable the wait times are short and you will be in and out in a flash. Yet you can be confident you are getting the best possible care. Comparing to any other VA Clinics's or any VA affiliated medical facility this by far exceeded my expectations and has been such a gift to have in these past months.

My sibling was in a terrible medical condition due to alcoholism. The doctor told us he was going to die if he didn’t get treatment immediately. I called all across the country and talked with staff who walked me through the treatment process better than anyone else and offered a reasonable price. I flew my sibling across the country the following day. He is now a completely different person and recovering. They literally saved his life. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Dr Gehringer and his team especially Dr.Aguayo provided truly exceptional treatment. Very understanding, compassionate, and took the time to listen to all our questions. We were clearly explained the treatment plan and made sure we understood every step. Decisions were made with our child’s well-being as the top priority and involved us as parents in every step of the care plan. We felt completely supported and reassured throughout.

For intake, meaning you're staying for detox which is 5 days or staying 90 days you'll need to go through intake. Show up at 8:30am. Trust me you'll save yourself hours and getting from intake to your bed can take the whole day so showing up early is important.
There are 2 mandatory classes you have to attend not to be kicked out. One in the morning and one in the evening
Set alarms on your phone for everything. Eating, pills, classes and snack time.
Never disrespect your instructor. If he has his way of doing things then follow it even if your way is better. Many of them came from where you are a few years prior so they have no problem getting ghetto with you for not following the rules.
Buy your own pillow and blanket. If you're in detox you'll need 3 blankets and still cold. I wore my jacket to bed.
Utalize the therapists that are there for you. You need to sign up for this individually. Nobody is going to tell you.
If you need a license or ID from DMV get a voucher from your councilor.
Every package you get will be inspected.
For snacks I recommend ordering from Amazon. Then when the snacks show up you need to play dumb. Make up an excuse like this was sent to me. It's ok. Store the snacks in your personal bin. Then when the guy who's working is cool go say you need your bin. Then load up your snacks in your bag then bring them upstairs. Snacks! I recommend hiding these from staff room searches.
You can vape weed. You'll have to sneak it in but I highly recommend it. There are giant windows always open in your room and bathroom. Go to the bathroom unless your roommates are cool otherwise vape from your bed.
Hide your stash. People steal
Get a tripod for your cellphone so you can watch TV or movies
Bring a large coffee or insulated mug larger than 20 ozs. You're going to need it.
You need minimal clothes. Clothes are washed every day and delivered to you.
Bring smokes and some lighters even if you don't smoke. Menthol a plus
You'll have a lot of time to work out your life. Make the most of it

From security, to front desk admin, and every single PT. Truly, this clinic feels like fam. I want to give a huge shoutout to Colin, James and Carolyn. They really fast tracked my recovery from a broken wrist + surgery, injured shoulder, tight hip flexors, low back + oblique pain and more from all the riff raff my body has encountered from numerous car/bike accidents, sports injuries and more. It is true...getting scheduled in the beginning was challenging to get a call back and get on the schedule... but once you're in... you're in. Plus they now have a separate phone number / line for scheduling (I think?). From the bottom of my heart, thank you again everyone that has been apart of my healing journey from all the injuries I experienced in such a short amount of time. I mean this in the best way possible... I hope to never have to come here again. 😁😎 But if I am ever injured again for anything... this is a great clinic. 🙌🏼
